@@DefenestrateYourself they know they have been called out. There are a legitimate reasons for someone to buy a pickup truck and it use it regularly for its designed purposes. Then there reasons to buy a pickup ego purposes that come with a high interest loan. It's an irresponsible way to use money when you don't have a lot and you put yourself in debt for it. They same applies to people who buy oversized homes to impress others.

Totally! Funny, too! Can't blame her for using sensible, sound, reasonable units of measure. But it would have indeed been better in feet. More 'MURICAN!!!* My Dad, a lover of the sciences and reason, once argued that the unit of measure is totally arbitrary, so it doesn't matter which system you use or prefer. He had a point, but also not. Base 10 units of measure are about a MILLION times better than fractions. To prove my point, I asked my two college-educated, professional older sisters in their 50's: 1) How many feet in a mile? - blank stares - (They both offered answers, which were wrong.) 2) How many meters in a kilometer? *ONE THOUSAND!* they replied simultaneously. BINGO! QED, Dad. (Pretty sure it's the only argument I ever won with him! ♥) *Crossing from Canada into the USA, I laughed at the huge billboard saying, "*WELCOME TO AMERICA!*" Um, pretty darn sure I was ALREADY IN AMERICA!

Also from Georgia - I had a good friend in high school who was so excited to get a Ford Ranger (relatively small size truck, relatively speaking) our junior year. The first week he drove it to school the Resource Officer made fun of his small truck and told him “I could fit your truck in the back of my truck,” which seemed to deflate my friend’s confidence and make him less proud of his truck that he had been so excited about getting. That always stuck with me.

But also-imagine being a young impressionable kid trying to make your way in the world, and an adult (and authority figure) messing with you like that and making you feel uncool. My impression of the Resource Officer is that HE was the one who was insecure (hence the XXL truck), and he needed to transfer some of that small D energy to a young kid. Come on, man

Yep, that's about right. Modern, oversized trucks are strap-ons. My father worked construction-related jobs his entire life, and a short, high bed like that isn't a selling point for *actual* work. And all that extra bulk and power just means paying literally tens of thousands more in gas over the lifetime of the vehicle. These vehicles aren't a sign of "a working man." They're a red flag of gullibility and insecurity.

It's one thing to drive a truck and not use it as a truck, but if you're gonna jack it up, at least get it dirty once and a while. Plus, the only trucks I ever see full of stuff are old ones, and usually small ones. It's freaking hilarious and it will also be the death of us. I say this as the proud owner of a 2001 f150. @dudeonbike800

If you're going the speed limit in the #1 lane, you're breaking the law in most states. "Slower Traffic Move Right" applies all the time. Anyone "enforcing" the speed limit doing this is decreasing traffic safety in addition to breaking the law. It only invites tailgating and road rage. Which is the exact OPPOSITE of what these people think they're doing. Letting someone pass doesn't mean you aren't a man or have a little peepee.

(b) When placing a vehicle in a lawful position for, and when the vehicle is lawfully making, a left turn. (c) When the right half of a roadway is closed to traffic under construction or repair. (d) Upon a roadway restricted to one-way traffic. (e) When the roadway is not of sufficient width. (f) When the vehicle is necessarily traveling so slowly as to impede the normal movement of traffic, that portion of the highway adjacent to the right edge of the roadway may be utilized temporarily when in a condition permitting safe operation. (g) This section does not prohibit the operation of bicycles on any shoulder of a highway, on any sidewalk, on any bicycle path within a highway, or along any crosswalk or bicycle path crossing, where the operation is not otherwise prohibited by this code or local ordinance. (h) This section does not prohibit the operation of a transit bus on the shoulder of a state highway in conjunction with the implementation of a program authorized pursuant to Section 148.1 of the Streets and Highways Code on state highways within the areas served by the transit services of the Monterey-Salinas Transit District or the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District.
