The ability to get on the property ladder and buy a house is thought to be high up on the priorities list of younger voters in the run-up to the General Election, and it’s thought they will be listening very carefully to what the political parties have to say on the issue before casting their votes.
Property expert Paul Shamplina explains to Talk's Ian Collins that he thinks housing issues under the Conservative Party over the last 14 years has been "a shambles". He says: "There is 112,000 people now in temporary accommodation."

Last year only 69,000 migrants came on work visa for areas of shortage, doctors nurses care workers, simply repatriate the remainder of the 700,000. They are not needed except to prop up former poly's selling worthless degrees. No student should be bringing six dependents.

In Scotland, 80% of council/social housing go to Ukrainian and immigration first, then it's 15% to Scottish homeless people and 5% to Scottish people on the waiting list, so as you see Scottish people have no chance of getting houses 😡 these figures are from a housing officer...

Labour will be granting amnesty to all migrants currently awaiting processing, that's tens of thousands. Hopefully they send loads to Islington, Brent, Tottenham, Brixton, Hackney and especially Bristol. Silk purses and sow's ears come to mind... Introduce tiny homes and parks for them into the market; affordable to build/buy and cheap land rental. Two people can live comfortably in them especially if they are young and collecting furniture. They are very popular in the US, NZed and Oz. When you want something bigger and better, you can rent t out or sell for the deposit on a bigger home. Because they bring down living costs so much, owners cn save a deposit while living in them.

Veterans, disabled people, and the elderly should get first preference. Everyone else needs to get a job. And work towards a better paying job/education. First time homebuyers/married couples get assistance with down payment for their mortgage. Build more houses/apartments and incentivize builders.

So I work 2 jobs. 1 in the financial sector (45k per year) Monday to Friday 2nd one I wash dishes for a local restaurant on weekends. My wife works as a nurse in the NHS and does overtime. We finally have enough to buy a house worth £250k. They gave 8 of the houses to mentally ill, unemployed, 2 single mothers (but the fathers live there too undeclared), I don’t get it??? My mathematics might be slightly off

Watched a really interesting programme called Skint last night. An economist explained why we're in such a mess. It all started with the crash of 2008. Covid and Brexit haven't helped. The country needs investment but we're not getting it. One big reason is our over complicated planning laws and reluctance to build on the green belt. Statistics show that we only need to free up 2% of green belt land in strategic pockets near to transport hubs to build the new homes we need. The new government needs to look at these issues and change legislation to enable the country to grow. Surely this is the most important issue we face?
