Couldn't agree more. Pension contributions are (usually) subject to both income tax and national insurance prior to being sent to the pension fund. Should absolutely be tax-free from then on.

No one is solely dependent on it as it would be impossible to live on. Those who have no other income are on a government benefit of some kind. They will continue to get their WFA. Those that have a small private pension and find themselves just over the amount where you can claim benefit are going to experience problems
