Wow, this production quality is pretty insane. You bring up some interesting points and it's intriguing to have another set of eyes to give their perspective on animations, even if you're not an expert with a PHD with a gazillion years of experience. During 10:10 you mentioned that you typically chose a gun based off the sounds rather than stats, and then you moved on to the next part of the video. The funny thing is, I do the same thing except it's the idle pose for me (how the character holds the weapon) and it's such an important factor that many people can gloss over. Before even firing the weapon for the first time, your brain instantly has an idea as to how it's going to feel _just_ based off how its silhouette on screen. If the character is holding it in a way that makes me feel powerful, in control and strong, satisfying, etc, then I'm going to use it because it gives me that power fantasy even if the stats suck!(...unless the stats are reeeally that bad!) On the other hand the weapon could be the best in the game, but if my character is holding in a way that feels flimsy, light, or generally not a strong pose, I probably won't use it because I don't feel satisfied or powerful using it. Also thanks for a cool shout out 😭

@@adog3129 KZbin has been heading in that quantity vs quality direction for a while now, just think of all the Let's Play channels that upload at least one 10 minute video every day. Meanwhile, channels that focus on animation have been dying out completely, with the only big name off the top of my head being TerminalMontage, and even then he needs Patreon to back him up. Another example is VFX channels, they started taking off but soon only FreddieWong and CorridorDigital were left standing, and even then they are very vocal that the KZbin monetisation system doesn't work for them, since making their high quality content is so time consuming compared to the money they receive from it. This AveragePixel guy deserves all the praise he's getting, nowadays it isn't worthwhile to put this much time and energy into a single video when you could use that time to churn out 20 mediocre videos with clickbait titles and make better money.

@@elemangell2981 Well idk if GMTK is a king of editing, but he does make great videos. AveragePixel and Ahoy's videos are extremely stylized, GMTK's editing usually stays out of the way of the narration, which is fine too.

All 3 have superb editing, it's just that they edit differently based on what they make, whether it's AP's stylized essays, Ahoy's deep diving retrospectives, or GMTK's thoughtful analysis.

Yo, I don't know if you've ever read through these comments before, but I'd like to leave one saying how important this video is to me. Watching this for the first time four years ago, I already knew it was my favorite video on the platform. And to this day that remains true. I now follow so many aspiring animators who either started out, or still exclusively animate first person firearm animations. Not only is the video overall phenomenally made, but it also introduced me to Justice, which is now one of my favorite bands. I went to see them at the hollywood bowl for the first time just this past week and it reminded me to come back to the video that made all of that happen. The SSG has a reload, and it’s absolutely great. The Slayer breaks out the barrel without his hands all the while taking 2 shells, and reloads both shells at once, then breaks the barrels back in without his left hand.

saganist Hahahahaha, what? Reloading effectively takes your fun away, and makes each experience more inconsistent. Reloading wouldn’t fit in the fast pace of DOOM. SSG has a reload as I said before, sure, but you don’t need to watch it reload, you can just switch to other guns while it’s on cooldown. DOOM 3 had a reload yes, but DOOM 3 was slow as fuck. It had no place in there. Newer DOOM games are absolutely necessary to not have reloads because it takes away your fun.
