I"m sure you've heard his live rendition of "This Woman's Work" and his live set at the Bet show planet groove. Maybe just maybe we can say they're comparable. The highest honor Avery gets is possibly the best male singer of THIS generation or the best current, new singer. Maxwell was a beast.

Every time I hear Avery singing, a tear will eventually fall from my eyes like when you eat something with a really potent flavor and it makes your eyes and noise run. Avery's upper register does that to me. The guys beyond a beast. I used to have the same reaction when Whitney sang.
