Realistic View While tools like Python and Tableau are highly valuable, SQL, Excel, and Power BI dominate the everyday tasks of most analysts. They are flexible, accessible, and sufficient for 80-90% of workflows. For those in more technical roles, adding Python/R for advanced analytics and cloud tools for large-scale data is essential. But realistically speaking, SQL, Excel, and Power BI/Tableau are indispensable 100% of the time

I've been a graphic designer for 28 years and things have slowed down. I got my BA in Professional and Tech writing in 2020. I did some web development certificates in 2009 and have used some coding skills here and there. I was just advised to check out this field and it's fascinating. I love data. Now I'm going into Excel and learning the functions. Previously, I used it to make visuals for financial advisors in marketing and creative, so I'm halfway there. Thanks for sharing this video. I'm filling in the gaps and going to start up a new search once I have some examples. Still figuring out if I need some case studies, or presentations?

Hi Avery This has been a very insightful video. Especially for someone like me who has no technical background whatsoever but is profusely interested in Data, this comes as a refresher. I have been keen about Data ever since I quit my corporate job as a HR 4 years back to pursue my passion for writing. I did take up couple of courses to familiarise myself with all things Data. But I would always get stuck up when it came to doing projects. Either because of a vast difference in what is taught as theory and what is expected out of you in Projects in these courses or because of my innate fear of not being able to be good at technical stuff, I never went beyond a certain level. Recently, I started working on my Data Skills again and am determined to try harder this time. Will follow your 9 step process and see how it works for me.

Hi! What are your thoughts on learning Power BI instead of Tableau?
@vvs1998Ай бұрын
I can answer that if you want To me both tools look similar, but the biggest advantage for power bi is that it's free. Tableau if i remember correctly has a fee to pay in order to use it. If you re new in this field or trying to learn the basics i'd say that powerbi is the way to go. If you have the chance to try both, go for it and see what's the best fit for you, but just so you know, it is possible to achieve similar results with both tools and once you start learning one(e.g powerbi), the other one should be easy to get used to. Soo, my advice is to go with powerbi if you're learning the basics (because its free), and you also have some tutorials on microsoft's website that helps with the basics. Lately you can use tools la power automate to ofc get rid of some repetitive tasks etc. Good luck!

Looking into Data Analytics as a new career field after 8 years in Physical Therapy. I've applied to almost 50 jobs that are outside of physical therapy but ive only gotten 2 call backs. Unfortunately with the automated systems you could be a rocket surgeon applying for an admin position and still get nothing but rejections.
@averysmith14 күн бұрын
4% is actually pretty average for an applicant rate. I would be happy with those numbers.

@@averysmith unfortunately those interviews were nearly 6 months ago when I was applying for positions which were closer to PT. As I realized that I didn't want to work in those types of positions anymore I started applying outside of my skill set and have gotten zero contacts since. The major drag for me is that I am constantly changing my resume to try to best fit the types of jobs I am applying for. I have nearly 15 different resumes with different points of interest, summaries, etc to try to get past the automation systems but nothing still.

Great info! I’m very interested in this and looking to pivot into data analytics. Unfortunately, I never did finish my Bachelor’s degree. Is it realistic to think I can get a data analytics role without a Bechelor’s degree? Because, to be blunt, there’s no point in trying to pursue a data analytics career right now if I can’t land such a job without a Bachelor’s degree.

Just keep building sir/ma. You have probably tried all I am about to say or not but diversify, try data entry, data instructor roles, technical roles closely related to data. And then you should also network. BUILD IN PUBLIC. Show your work. If you have a portfolio deal free do send it across to me let me see it. Just keep building.

I’ve been on/off studying front end web development for 4 years now whilst working an admin job (I use excel and power bi heavily here). I’ve never learned SQL, but I have spent some time in Python.. I’m very demotivated from webdev lately and haven’t studied in a few months.. is data analytics a career that can be entered into purely through self taught? I’d need to learn sql and python I believe for the most part, I’m great with excel and bi.

That networking stuff appears to me as some sort of normalized nepotism and corruption. I mean, it’s one thing if you network for some project or idea and maybe indirectly get a job in that way or simply for real merit, and the other thing to get yourself a preferential treatment without real justification. It would be as standing in the line and seeing constantly new people coming ahead of you and the other people waiting. Actually, i see this stuff going on for years now where i live, but I taught this was unthinkable for a developed country.

Github doesn't look like a good place to host portfolios. It looks complicated and not user friendly. Employers want to click your portfolio and see right away projects with easy navigation. Not see a repository that is made for code collaboration etc.
