If I was gonna get a reel for pier fishing for reds I would get the MXL personally. Spool it up with 30/40lb mono and be good to go.

Ok the mxl spooled with 60lb you can get 400yds and 100yds of 100lb top shot.. or run straight 100lb and get like 400yds..

I was using between 4-6-8-10oz weights during all these casting vids.. and we usually start at 3 and work our way up or down

Johnny Cortez that sx raptor is on a tackle industry 9ft 80-150lb class rod.

SX models work great for both peir and bay If your not thowing lures, if your botteom fishing with surf weights then we would highly recommend using the G2 series or the RAPTOR SERIES REELS...

Juan Manuel Salazar they splice there hollow core. Best people i know to splice and damn do they do it fast.

THANK YOU lalo22, Yes Juan we hollow core splice the braids together when we get cut off and have to add line this keeps us from having any knots in our line.. which is great if your dealing with a lot of debri in the water such as seaweed it wont get caught and add more water weight to your line and get you cut off...

I'm thinking about getting an sx or sxj for surf fishing for bull reds and smaller sharks and maybe snook. I was just wondering if that was a good idea considering these are jigging reels. I just dont see why I cant just slap it on a 10ft surf rod.

You can all day long, many of these guys have those longer rods thinking it will help if they don't have the proper form and it really hurts them in the long run

Med heavy steadfast 10ft... or even heavy they recoup 70% faster than other rods on the market
