I have a question, i just bought an all aluminum frame converted penn senator 4/0, its going on a 13ft 6-14oz slide bait rod, but the mono capacity isnt that great on a 4/0. Should i do 50lb hollow core then splice to 100yards of 65lb mono, or run straight 50lb mono, or maybe straight 65lb maxcuatro and just use shock leaders. Ive. never slide baited with braid before but ive heard of guys doing it with minimal issue.

Good question braid doesn't do well for that kind of set up cause of the burning of the slide line clip up and down you want to use mono and yes it doesn't give you much line capacity but for the anchor rod that your using it for you don't need line capacity just more than enough to cast out and hold anchor.. now if it was your fighting reel then yes use braid all the way to the leader

Do not slide with braid. Using a non return slide and a heavier bait (8+ oz) will not get past a bar. Sometimes I slide mullet and stuff with a grinder and braid but that is all super light and from an elevated point. You can fit over 700 yards of line onto a 4/0 and just let the fish run. Do 500 yards of a thin braid like 50lb whiplash and top it with an extremely abrasion resistant mono. 0.5 double X is my favorite. I used to slide with tibbed senators and caught lots of big raggies and rays the same line setup I gave you. They just were really heavy for the performance they gave you. Now I use torque 40's, Saltiga 50's, and for REALLY big baits, a LD0H dogfight.

That non return is an other way to get live baits out as well.. see them non return slides but haven't used one myself enough to recommend them or knowledge on then.. and just curious what is the x line?

@@TeamHardLife It is a South African ultra abrasion resistant mono brand I use for sliding. You can rub it on the sidewalk with minimal damage. Closest thing in the US I can think of is sufix tritanium plus. I think it is owned by rapala/sufix too.

Ah yes suffix titanium loved it when it was in gold... crazy strong line and super thing.. we used to use the 50# gold.. but they stopped making we so we stopped using it..
