What really let us down is Watkinses finishing skills.

Think about this. Our preseason was basically full of players we loaned out or sat on the bench. We had a lot of 1st teamers with barely any preseason, we had 3 coming back from bad injuries we have tried to get fit. Watkins hasn’t recaptured his scoring touch and Bailey has been awful with philogene having to come on when it became obvious we had waisted 60 mins giving Leon the ball only to lose it. We then have our RB problem which means RW has to defend more. Bailey has been told to push up imo but philogene has more defensive duties particularly since the Bayern game. I’m not surprised he’s been poor on the goal front, looked better attacking out left. Maybe he’s not the solution but 11 appearances only 2 starts particularly as mcginn was played there often? Think philogene might be slightly miffed.

@ he’s had a few moments but not much time in winning positions, Bailey has had way more pitch time and patience, given the same starts and time who knows. Early cup exit hasn’t helped. I’m just suspicious that the minute Leon got another injury we went with McGinn. Maybe more to do with our defensive frailties and captaincy. I am actually amazed we have been competitive considering preseason and even outstanding at times. Never thought he’d get loads of minutes and I am surprised he’s shown the same reluctance to take players onas Bailey . I would think 5 goals 5 assists for the season reasonable playing in a less fragile Villa.

Did say on your previous videos, Jaden philogene is a horrendous player, El ghazi and Trezugeut are streets ahead of Jaden and they stopped being good enough for the team 2 years ago. Malen will be an upgrade for sure

I thought the summer window was a bit of a mess at the time. Did we need to spend £37 mil on Maatsen I don’t think so, that’s not to say he won’t come good Did we need to spend £50 mil on Onana ….no, Everton fans rubbing their hands. We then had to sell Diaby but never replaced him, all in all the business was poor imo.

I loved your analysis, but I also think that we have to figure out our back line before we can seriously look at attacking options. We haven't had a PL clean sheet in what feels like eons, and last game out we had a calamity of a defense. Cash nor Carlos have not been consistent either, along with Watkins and Bailey, leading to an over reliance on our midfield. We have to have a strong RB, another CB and a wide attacker as you mentioned. I'm afraid that if this isn't sorted by this window, a consecutive UCL campaign, indeed if any campaign, in Europe will not happen. Just subscribed from NYC. Love your content UTV

we are top or were top of the big chances missed league with Watkins the worst culprit for us, that might be why but I agree defence has been poor this season.

@@maplin007 I don't blame Watkins or Duran they are good attackers but our midfield ain't the same as when we had Luiz and Diaby! less chances created less goals ! Unai totally missed in the last transfer window and is paying for that now he didn't even buy 1 defender and that he is also paying for , they need a very good window if they wanna be top 6 something I believe is impossible with the team they have now !

@ Duran goals per minute is good. Ollie is paying for no preseason and has lost his touch in front of goal, he’s missed about 18 big chances. Duran on the other hand has scored when he really shouldn’t have. If you don’t put the big chances away that will affect the team, they can’t keep the intensity up. That’s why I think we concede late a lot. The early goals are just poor defending. The midfield last year had existed under SG more or less this one requires time that’s natural. As Unai keeps saying it’s a process. Where we will end up is up in the air at this point.

@maplin007 you can think that if you want bottom line is that we have one of the worst defence so if they don't fix that well let's say we ain't playing European cups next season! And about Watkins he had a poor season so far but if we can get more creative in the midfield he will get back to scoring no doubt! we are also lacking pace in the squad so we need that as well! Bottom line this team needs a bit of everything but in my opinion defence needs to be sorted out first!

I'd like to see Gittens at Villa Park, joking, he costs around 100 man pounds. Malen I think is better at dribbling than Diaby but worse at shooting, Malen is a transition player. Dortmund turned into a buy/sell club, I m sure They r keen on selling him, cos they start a bunch dubious wingers. Malen is a decent player for its price, but I think Philo has a higher potential.

I didn’t get the return of Philogene in summer , didn’t get the hype. Malen a far better option as competition with Bailey on the right and when required perhaps both can start.

Yes, I think Malen can play behind Ollie or Duran with Bailey on the field in the Diaby role. That could be pretty decent.

We have signed three players from Germany and none of them have improved the club, if any needs to go it's monchie as he is so overrated and we need defenders who can defend and uni needs to stop zonal marking otherwise he wiy be on his bike as well.

We will get who we can, we can 'Want' as much as we like but its not easy to sign players and just expect them to fit like a glove straight away, the fans may need to be patient, which Villa fans aren't, please Villa fans, I'm begging you, PLEASE PLEASE stop moaning ok, its very boring and stupid, let's go into 2025 with less of it, significantly less, thanks.
