This version of "Aberdeen" is part of an all-alternative EP Avi recorded during the Covid lockdown in 2020 at the home studio of his tour manager/sound guy, Reid Leslie, who lives not far from him. So it's just him doing it all. I have to say that I personally prefer this version to the original one, as I like the vocal harmonies at the end as opposed to the whistling.

Something for you to just listen to - "Sage and Stone" (referenced here in "Aberdeen" lyrics) was written in 2017 while Avi was still in PTX, and it's one of his first forays into creating full orchestral backing. He wrote the song for his mother, who was in treatment for cancer, and his love and concern for her shaped this song. I agree I actually prefer this version of the song. It just feels so much more intimate and like you said he's just a story teller you get lost in it. This would be so great in a movie or television show sound track man I can I can see it.
