Frank, I was 3 years old in 1970, when Layla came out. I remember kneeling by my bed every night & asking God to protect the policemen & soldiers in my own country (Ireland) & the American soldiers fighting the war in Vietnam. The following year, aged four, I was blown sky-high, on a sunny, Saturday afternoon by a bomb, "proudly" owned by the I.R.A. I'm told blood poured from every orifice &, when my mother told an EMT to take another, more severely-injured innocent bystander, in the ambulance (there were always too many casualties & those, lesser-wounded, were thrown into the back of cars...). The EMT said, as he grabbed me out of her arms, "Madam, your daughter goes in the ambulance or she will die". Shortly after our wedding, my husband was asked to work in the U.S.A. We had an, "open door" policy, most who became "family" were service men & women. It was nothing for us to have 18, for dinner, on a week-night (we improvised 🙂). Those men & women were homesick, at very least, heartsick at worst. We gave them what we had: home-cooked meals, LONG calls home to their families (without a line waiting behind them), barbeques & volley-ball on the beach & as many laughs as they could handle. Others were happier lying on the grass, under our trees just trying to forget....we often cried together as we remembered those we'd loved & lost. We lost many more in the conflicts which followed. Letters & continued contact with their families are precious. Some expectant service women stayed with us as their "due date" approached &, also afterwards, until they were well enough to travel home. We chose to leave & I have family who still can't answer their doors without their service weapons to hand. Our "war" may seem to be over but the threat is still great (even if you're retired). I was saddened to find out that a LOT of money for weapons & Semtex came from U.S. idealists who thought they were supporting freedom-fighters, instead of cowards who called it "war" but never donned a uniform (you'd know how terrifying it is when you can't seperate the enemy from the innocent). "Thankyou for your service", doesn't seem enough. We must never forget that we all have to live on this planet & that peace & innocence are too precious to ever give up - without good reason.

He is so in tune with his emotions. He’s very passionate about his art and I think it genuinely shows in his music. My favorite story about Eric Clapton is his involvement with George Harrison’s wife, Patti. Instead of them both getting crazy and creating a huge petty feud like any other popular artists would’ve, they both talk it out and come to terms with it. George even being close enough to bring them flowers for their garden and even playing at their wedding. Eric Clapton is just raw and real, and isn’t scared to admit to things most people shrivel up to, and the people he surrounded himself with like George Harrison, Billy Preston, etc are all just like that. Down to earth and are happy to even have the chance to express themselves in an extremely creative and raw way.

What I love the most about this performance was not just the fucking eargasm it leaves me, is the happiness these musicians transmit playing onstage. They look like they genuinely LOVE what they are doing. They pour so much emotion and maybe that’s why the entire song just sounds so natural and sexy, esp. towards the ending when they are playing the solos. Layla is one of my all time favorite songs. It’s one hella of a song.

I'll take BB,Buddy and the artists who voted for EC as the greatest living guitarist of all time for Rolling Stone magazine opinions over a nobody like you. As far as Prince, lol, he was not in the same STRATOSPHERE as EC in terms of guitar ability. EC changed how the blues were played. And set the standard for blues and rock guitar. To bring up the tragedy of his child, proves what an. A HOLE you are. FYI, EC was 25 blocks away, not near the building his son was staying at with his mother and a friend at the time of the tragedy. One thing that will never change EC= Legend, revered, influential, successful, cultural icon, musical genius, and has been at the top for over 50 years. You= NOBODY,LOSER! LMAO.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the best performances of LAYLA I've seen & heard....many times; Clapton in earlier years was not crazy about using his voice ie. singing, front man or other-wise; Over the yrs. his confidence grew as did his powerful, throaty vocals & it clearly shows...There isn't a bad seat @ Madison Sq. Garden as I've seen Many concerts there, notably - Led Zeppelin in '73, where the infamous concert tour,as well as title song, 'The Song Remains the Same' - which is another story indeed!
