I am now researching all the fiberglass RV's lightweight. I'm thinking of just living in one of them. I have watched hours of your videos as you do your walk throughs. I love how you point out all of the options and extras that are included in each of the trailers. I truly enjoy watching you and listening to your videos and have also helped me to decide which RV I think I would enjoy living in.

Great walkthrough as always, PJ! I had the opportunity to see the AVIA in person when I toured the NuCamp factory last week. As lovely as it looks in photos and videos, it’s hard to convey how stunning the exterior is in person (especially the front) or describe the quality of the interior materials and hardware. And there’s no way to get across how light and spacious it feels with all of the windows and the skylight. They’re going to sell a LOT of these!

I can see one issue right off with the placement of the convection oven. Not that it's in a bad spot but maybe you should have considered the doors a bit further. made them to slide back when open as in slide back inside the cabinet like console doors for an tv entertainment stand. Then they would be out of the way and folks don't have to try to walk around or half close when trying to use the microwave etc. just a thought.

Yes, that was MY thought , exactly, even the doors sliding into the cabinet. I'd rather have no doors at all than to deal with doors blocking the main traffic thoroughfare.

Hi PJ, Question about insulation / seasonal rating. Are the tanks in heated - enclosed or interior areas? Also are the walls/ belly / roof insulated more than the average trailer so the AVIA can do extended season / some sub-freezing travel? Thanks for the complete tour!

One thing for the manufacturer.....please create a larger sink.....it will not be practical washing pots. For those of us who like to cook, the sink is very important. Love that hidden microwave that does it all. Love the expandable toilet section and fold up vanity sink....have not seen that anywhere....love it.

@Omar Williams ok lets start with a simple fact the heating system is alde which is swedish not North American, Then the company who make these trailers call bed bed base european slats so copying. I would go on but i dont need to. There is a huge trade show in Dusseldorf in germamy where manufacturers of trailers and their components can be found, its an eye opener to learn that so much of any trailer US, European, Australian or anywhere else buy so many of their components from the same place. Even the bulk of european chassis are made by just 2 companies. I don't claim to be righteous but if you open your eyes you will see their is truth in what i say. And yes I would love of these they look incredible and the equipment level is higher than most european caravans.

@Omar Williams The interior has been altered but the otherwise its a clone. To be fair there's not many ways to shape a caravan to be aero. There's plenty other slant nose caravans, but the similarity to the Adria is too close. www.adria-mobil.com/caravans/alpina It's 2019. Google is free.

Nucamp is known for quality and great customer service. I love this trailer and regarding the toilet slide out... I will be traveling alone and do not see why I would have to slide it out since I would not worry about closing the doors. Of course the shades would need to be closed on the windows in the bedroom unless you are boon docking. Great Job. Always love to watch your videos PJ and there are always the negative ones in the crowd. Keep up the great work. If I had a truck to pull this I would buy it I would suggest a generator hook up or a connection on the side for additional solar/ generator. Are there options for more solar panels? Bad weather the generator would come in handy if you decide to boon dock.

I love the modern design and sleek look. The bathroom is tight but works. I do wish they had not put a window behind the bed. I prefer a padded headboard. Like the bookcase cubbies and the shelving over the windows. The lightning is fabulous and the storage is great as they did not forget kitchen drawers. Closet space is small and pantry space tiny but at least it is there. Good counter space, cool microwave and frig and of course the Alde. As to seating I would move the table over to one side and use the rear and other side as a sofa area combo. All in all a beautiful travel trailer.

While I like the extra room you get from a trailer with slide outs, this set up allows you to boondock without putting out slides and is much much lighter, all in all not a bad swap unless you are full timing, as for those complaining about the hight, its not a big deal I am 6'1" 300lbs and I don't think the hight is an issue sounds like I would have 3" head room I can live with that.

Can you tell us why they may be getting rid of the Air8 system? I was really intrigued when I heard they were going to use it, a bit disappointed to hear they may be getting rid of it. Too complicated? Too expensive? Otherwise, GORGEOUS trailer, I'm so glad at least one company is moving toward the European style of design. It obviously isn't going to work for some people, but for anyone tired of interiors that look out of date/cheaply made and utilize interior space poorly, this is a real leap forward. (Although pretty run of the mill by European standards, they've been building trailers like this for years.) And no giant swoops or wooshes on the exterior!
@etmccally
@etmccally 4 жыл бұрын
I have asked a few of the dealers and it seems the change is money motivated. The two systems cost substantially more than the one larger 15K rooftop unit. I did also learn if you can find units 1-20 for sale, you'll see that they have the Air8 system. Units 21 and above do not.

Not a big advocate of the stabilizer jacks being controlled at the tongue jack location. If they aren't supposed to carry weight, how do you easily monitor the jack force being applied if you are up front and can't see the jack going down in the rear of the trailer? Typical problems that occur when you put too much force down on a stabilizer jack includes torquing of the frame of the trailer. With the lighter construction of the trailer, this can cause difficulties in opening and closing doors and other issues in and outside of the trailer. I'd rather have the control on each jack. Much easier to apply just the right amount of force on the jack as you lower it.

I looked at it today at the RV show in Charlotte. The only concern was if the person on the right side of the bed wanted to get up in the middle of the night. With the mattress in the more upright position, it's fine, but when the matress is flat, it is very tight between the end of the bed and the bathroom. It may have been that the bath surround just needed to be pushed back but I didn't think to look for that. Other than that, very nice trailer.

Few things I did not like. I do not like a front dinette, I prefer having a front kitchen area. This unit has a galley kitchen area and it becomes a traffic hang up. Also I did not like the bathroom either. I don't like a split bath. I would rather have an aisle going down the side of the trailer and then have a full bathroom between the aisle and the outside wall. Having a side aisle floor plan, you don't have to look into the bedroom all the time especially if the bedroom is a mess. Not real crazy about the back rear window either, in cold weather your head gets off like hold and you have to put a lot of blankets in insulation over that we are window for your headsets. Probably would like to see a few more mirrors on the inside, near seem to make things happy and larger such as found on the pre-vote Liberty buses. The solar panel was way too small on the roof, and I didn't hear anything about a built-in generator.

nüCamp RVs are fun because they aren't nervous about taking risks when it comes to styling. And they have a wonderful wsy of taking old ideas from one platform and reinventing tem for another. The bathroom is a great example. Walk-through bathrooms are nothing new. Look at review/sales-pitch vids of motor-coaches and 5th-wheels ten or more years old and you'll see a lot of them....but not really in travel trailers. In the AVIA, they did exactly that while taking design cues from a few scifi flicks.

PJ, you did a fantastic job explaining all the features of the Avia. I’ve been to Sugarcreek a hundred times without ever hearing of NuCamp. They seem to be very nicely made. Will check the factory on our next visit. Thanks

Well it looks great but again when any dealer is showing there trailer they never at the end mention price. I’m sure it’s high but at that price can buy a fifth wheel. Also can you camp all seasons didn’t mention that. Why does every one who shows there trailer have to open every door and drawer. That is a waste of time to show unit. Thanks anyway. As soon as a dealer hits on the important stuff, I’ll buy one.

If you can control the sound from an app on your phone, why not all the other functions of the trailer? Remotes and touch screens and rubber touch screen covers are just more things to lose and break. The front door is funky. Lose the pockets. If you try to fill them full of stuff they add needless weight to the door. Plus, if your door is open the wind might come up and tear some valuable document out of a pocket and carry it away into the landscape. You've got plenty of other places for pockets. Plastic doesn't make a good first impression anyway, use a premium material for your door. I do like having a well-thought out window in the door. Most doors with vertical windows like that have the window over the handle, not on the hinge side of the door. Following subconscious conventions is good; it makes people feel at ease. No surprises. No opinion on the screen, it might be fine, it might be too flimsy. Can you close the door with the screen closed? It looks like there might be a clearance problem. That's unacceptable. One accidental slam and you have to replace the screen. In the kitchen, I make fairly heavy use of the microwave and would not want it hidden behind doors that I have to open up every time I want to heat something up, and just get in the way most of the time. Note that you don't have a conventional oven, so this is all you've got for an oven. I'd also like the countertop workspace to be between the stove and the sink, not on the other side of the aisle. I'd also like to be able to watch TV without someone who's working in the kitchen constantly getting their head in the way of my view. That's a funky place for the subwoofer switch. I don't think you need one at all, but that's the last place I'd look for it. Why is it not next to the sound system touch screen or integrated into the functions controlled from the touch screen? One slide out pantry is sufficient, the second is just a temptation to pack more stuff than you need. The lid for the stovetop needs to cover the control knobs as well. You don't want to accidentally turn a burner on with the lid down, and the knobs get in the way when using it as a work surface. I see no point in integrating it into the sink. Like I say, I'd prefer to have a shared workspace between them. Note that if you ever need to replace your sink or your stovetop, you'll regret having the two functions in a single unit. It's needlessly funky and a bad idea. If you're going to give me two doors for the refrigerator like that, I'd like the top to be all refrigerator and the bottom to be all freezer. Having a separate crisper makes no sense to me. Also, most RV refrigerators have insufficient freezer space. That bottom drawer is about the right size for a nice freezer compartment, and removing the freezer from the top compartment makes that a nice sized fridge. I'm not impressed with separate toilet and shower facilities. A luxury trailer should take a cue from people's preferences in their homes. We like big luxurious bathrooms and don't mind devoting enough space to get the feeling we want there. This system is too clever. It should be possible to make a nice bathroom all on one side of the trailer, with the sink over the wheel well, toilet on one side and shower on the other and still leave space for a galley kitchen on the opposite side of the trailer. The tambour shower doors might be helpful in shoehorning in a full bath with shower without taking unnecessary space. I don't think you need shelves in the overhead cabinets. Airstream does without them just fine. People often store items organized in duffels, baskets, Tupperware and the like. Adding shelves just makes it harder to fit them in because the spaces become too small. I don't understand why the Alde heater needs vents all over the place. If it's radiant heat, put it under the floor and make my toes nice and toasty. Radiant heat that depends on air circulation via convection makes no sense. In the bedroom, lose the boxes that take up 1/3 of the space in the closets. Figure out some other solutions to give the bed occupants shelf space. Actual projecting shelves work (they're shallow), so does a somewhat wider sill under the window. Airstream provides a magazine rack for each occupant. Those shelves above the side windows look pretty useless to me. Also the corner cabinets. I'd rather have a more open look and more room for walking around the bed, both to make the bed and to get to the cabinets around the bed in the back. I hate bumping my knees on the bed. If people want to fill the space with their knickknack shelves, plant stands, hanging macrame, dog beds, statuary, personal art, mementos, etc. that's their business. Oh, and make the floor completely flat all the way across and center the bed. This is a luxury coach and we don't expect to see such clunky compromises here. If you really, really must have that extra space, raise the entire bedroom floor and put the step at the entrance to the bedroom. Out back, that passthrough storage in the rear would be a lot more useful if it opened from the back with a tailgate. It's so nice to have a temporary workspace outside. You could prepare meals on such a tailgate or repair things like bicycles, lots of uses. In front, if you restyled just a bit to introduce a taper following the triangle of the tongue you could reduce the overall length of the coach by about a yard. That tongue sticks out way too far. There's a lot to like about this trailer too. But this comment is already too long. Trust me that there are many positive things I could mention.

The AVIA is no longer in nuCamp’s production lineup, and no more are projected to be manufactured at this time. There are some whispers that the engineers may return to the AVIA product with a refresh at some point, but nuCamp plays their cards pretty close to their chests.

Looks like they are trying to look like an AIrstream inside. No mention of the wood, is there any fiberboard? The convection microwave is excellent, we have the same thing in our AIrstream, however, the doors don’t make sense when cooking, you will have to leave them open when cooking which will inhibit movement. Definitely something to keep our eyes on to see how this adapts in the future, right now we are in love with our current camper.

Haven't seen an RV yet that didn't need screens placed all over the place, mice will get in and wasps will build a nest in ventilation pipes. Use to pay a dollar a night for state parks, extra buck if you wanted electricity, now more like 40 bucks a night and a gallon of gasoline is not 30 cents anymore. RV dealers around here charge 125 bucks per hour and don't do very good work. When you get home, have a major job to clean it up, don't forget to drain all your water before the frost sets in. Back in the 60's redid all the plumbing in our motor home with all the pipes going downhill, one exhaust valve had to be opened with all the faucets. The don't think about this in these new ones, ask my neighbor, cost him a fortune.

I really like the look but: 1) No storage for stinky slinky, hoses, power cable and any other stuff. I don't want to put waste equipment with everything else. 2) No ladder for the roof, if you are an RV'er like I am then you know that getting on the roof is very important. 3) I think the bathroom is something I could probably deal with but not the lack of storage for clothing and I didn't see any drawers either. Could I make it work?....not sure. Great presentation.

2 main design flaws: 1) The microwave behind those doors - they block the whole area. 2) The toilet and sink combined reminds me of a class B layout - not what you would expect on a 29ft rig. Hopefully Nu-Camp will fix this with the next iteration

Matthew B - The Alde is a European system. We have it in our T@B 400 and love it. Last time we were camping, the outdoor temperatures were in the low 20’s and when we unhitched, the indoor of the trailer was in the mid-30’s. Using both propane and the 2kW electric heat setting, it was up to 65 within two hours. After that, we shut off the propane and used just the electric. A standard propane gas forced air furnace would have had the inside up to temperature much faster, but the Alde has several advantages. First, it’s silent - no noise whatsoever. Second, because it is radiant heat and therefore convection style, it’s a warm “blanket” of heat, and there’s no draft or blast of cool air at startup like you get with forced air. Third, if you’re at a site with electric hookup, you rarely have to burn propane for heat or hot water; alternatively, if you’re boondocking with no electric, it sips propane compared to a standard furnace and it uses only 12V for the control panel and circulation pump; nothing in the Alde requires 120V.

As you mentioned might happen, PJ, the Air8 has been removed leaving just the ceiling A/C. I’m wondering if the space previously occupied by the Air8 in those units is now accessible storage? Also, it doesn’t appear as though the roof unit is ducted (the Air8 was), which obviously presents a problem with cooing the bedroom if the accordion door is closed for privacy. Perhaps they’ve switched to a ducted system in the units that don’t have the Air8?

Update, I see the Terra RV has some of the answers I asked below. Terra is nice & sleek! Sleek looking mostly 4 the Avia & has a lot of nice features. Some questions: 1) The awning slide, can I set it to the length I want or it has to slide all the way out? If it's to windy, will the awning slide back in automatically? 2) The light controller & touch screen at the door, can that be control by an app? Short person can't see that screen. 3) The TV in the dinette, does that pull out? I'm not sure from the video how the viewing to that TV is? 4) 210 watts of solar to run that 3 in 1 microwave and all that in the Avia?🤔 Not sure if that's enough? Any backup battery or is the propane used for backup? 5) The pass through storage from the outside, is the light switch button only on one side of the trailer? Sorry for saying this but, the exterior in the front is not what I consider sleek, looks bulky to me. 🤔 I enjoy all ur sneak peeks of your trailers. You always do a great job and taking the time to explain things. Thank you for the time & effort in ur videos.
