AVIATIONS "Coma" // Audio Engineer & Musician Reacts

I'd never heard of "cozy" metal before, but after hearing this (especially the piano), I totally get it. Heard a lot of Plini and Contortionist influence in this and loved the jazzy parts very much. Perhaps a bit long, but as a whole, a really good song.

Returning here because I’ve been listening to them a lot again recently and have a lil’ tidbit of info I think you might appreciate: when I was choosing which song to share with you guys, I was chatting with Adam, the vocalist, to discern *exactly* which song I should share and we went back and forth between this song and the song after it (on the album, which is also the closing track, which is also another pretty damn long song) and I think we both agreed on this one because it absolutely, fundamentally represents the band and their capabilities and songwriting prowess. They’re all (apart from the bass player, Werner) from Berklee 😳 I’ll have another, shorter one pretty soon and it’s - to date - their heaviest track! 🥵 Get ready for it…! 😈🤘🏻

12:15 I’m biased lmao! This is one of my top three favourite bands, but from a more objective standpoint, this track was released as one of the 5 singles in the run up to the new album release and I saw the run time and was like, “ooh, we’re going places with this one!“ haha! But yeah, from the biased point, I love prog, and I really appreciate longer song forms (remember The Enigma Division? The last track on that album is 20 minutes and is one of my favourites hehe!), and I’d say it feels a fair bit shorter when you know the song structure and can hear certain parts of the song playing in your mind 😂
