I looked at this when choosing my bivvy a few years back. I went for the Nash Double Top Mark 4 because of the sealed inner. The problem with the Nash, is that the first part of the ‘Pram’ is so tight it’s really difficult to take down - this is because they are fixed to the second set. The model you have, has separate pram sections and is way easier to take down. My Nash is toasty warm though with it’s sealed inner and separate groundsheet, overwrap and fitted carpet (from a tent!). Once the inners are connected, these go up super quick, as I’m sure you have found out by now. Also it looks so good lol - might get the new brolly version of your bivvy as I’m a tart for that camo mesh and I need something a little lighter. Have fun with your new purchase.

I own a Trakker Tempest Bivvy which is supposed to be the best bivvy on the market. I am now going to sell this and purchase the avid bivvy featured! The tempest is supposed to go up very easily. I for some reason struggle with it, plus its bloody exspensive! The avid two man is perfect for what i want, as im hoping to visit France in 2020! Any chance of a shout out on your winter social, as both my Dad and I follow all your youtube vlogs. You and your friends are very funny and entertaining, and we both hope you continue with you trips to Clearwater. Hope to see you down on Kellet or Kents in the new year. @MaffTUK
@MaffTUK 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Mike, On our arrival it was windy and it took two to erect the bivvi without fear of damaging it on its first night out. We used some of Chris's longer pegs to hold her down at the front as the ground was quite soft (not a bad idea to have 4 or more longer pegs in this kit to be fair) when complete the bivvi stood firm in the wind and did not give me any cause for concern about stability. Despite other videos and comments water does not bead off this thing "as they say it does" due to the hex pattern design, it seems to hold it a little but again it did not bother me. Two of the nights we had heavy frost and our bivvies were thick with ice, i didn't even know until the morning the material inner layer just made it feel so much more comfortable. We both know it probably wasn't any warmer than any other on the bank but it just felt that way. During the five nights the bivvi grew on me more and more and it did make a very good winter system in my opinion. I guess I have to find a negative to balance everything out so i will say it took some time to dry out in the morning sun and when i got home i opened it back out again and let it dry naturally in my garage for a few days to prevent the inner form getting that mould on it. I can live with that as i do that to all my kit anyway. You may have seen the reply this morning from AVID stating you can use FABSIL GOLD to protect from UV damage, now that has been confirmed i don't see any reason this bivvi is not an 4 season piece of kit. It did well for me and i'm looking forward to using it in France in April and again in October I like it, and I'm real glad i bought it I currently think for its price range its the best on offer at that price. hope that helps a little Mike, let me know how you get on with it after the weekend regards Matt 👍

Hi there, Great review of this bivvy. I have purchased one of these for my longer sessions ( 48hrs + ) in 1 man in the black Friday deals. I haven't had it on the bank yet but have had it up a few times in the garden and reduced the erect time down to 10 mins although the 1st effort took nearer 40 mins attaching the inner skin. I agree with your thoughts on the poles but feel this was probably done on purpose to keep the weight down a bit. They are adequate. I have left the bivvy set up for a week in horrendous rain and wind and it has stood up remarkably well, I have up most confidence in using it in the worst of conditions now. The alternative bivvys are starting to get to be silly money and part of the attraction was its quality at a price point.I fully expect to get a decade of use of it.
@MaffTUK
@MaffTUK 4 жыл бұрын
Andrew, just done a five night session and loved it, I agree with your comments the only thing i'm going to do is get a few longer pegs as we set up in the wind and needed that bit more depth in the soft ground and loosening the buckles on the poles made it very easy to separate when packing away. thanks for your great comment, regards Matt 👍

KidneyPuncher 01 Yes Mate. Once I’d clipped the liner in with the toggles I just folded the whole bivvy back up the way that I’d unfolded it and carefully rolled it back up with the full liner still inside. It’s a bit of a tight fit to get it back into the original bag but I’m sure that with a bit of practice it will become much easier. That said the bivvy is a fantastic bit of kit and plenty of room inside.

Andy I must admit i do like it although you do need to be mindful of drying it i guess if you were to put it away damp for a few weeks you could potentially get mould on the inner but i personally will leave a bivvi spread out in my garage for some time until i know its bone dry, that being said, Im glad ive got it and its very adaptable to all seasons from the coldest to the hottest day its a one stop shop bivvi. I did feel like i may be taking a risk but now im confident i bought the right one for me, I hope that helps Andy PS the one man bivvi is still a big bivvi but i love the space with the two man 👍😁😁

The good news is Andy once that inner is in, that's it its just a regular set up from then on. Oh and top tip remember how it unrolls/unfolds and mimic that to roll it back up again and it goes straight in the bag. used it now for a 5 day session thought it was terrific. other videos show the water beading off this is not the case although its very waterproof the hex pattern holds the water a bit but its just a shake off to get rid enjoy

Hiya Maff. I erected the Avid dual skin for the first time on Saturday and it went well. It took a while the first time probably about 20 minutes but it was well sturdy and plenty of room inside and perfect for a long session or when I go to France. The first time takes a while as I was getting used to it and after I put it up I put the inner skin in it as well which is an excellent idea. I’ve folded it up and left the inner skin inside the bivvy so I reckon next time I’ll erect it in just 10 minutes. The bivvy is a cracking piece of kit and I’m delighted with my purchase. Yr video definitely helped. Well done Mate 👍

That's an easy one to answer for me Garry, most of my fishing is social and 99% of the time my fishing buddy (Dave) will end up in my bivvi if the weather turns bad. True I dont need a two man for one man but I always have guest so for me a two man makes sense not forgetting i like the room too, Also Garry, you never know about getting booted out, however I wont be the one getting booted out of my own home... so i will lend it to the other half if she has nowhere to go ...after all im not a beast! Be careful when resealing ya bivvy m8.. I resealed trakker brolly with the rubber backed material and the rubber backing started to peel off.. A m8 of mine did his Nash extended cannopie and his seam tape came off.. but saying that I've done my aqua armo and it's been fine.. so just be careful m8... (fabsil gold)

Totally get that, rlb, some good points are dont have to fit the liner again once its in, and with practice best possible speed would still have to be 15 minutes not quick but an honest opinion nun the less, time will tell mate 👍 merry Christmas and thanks for your comment, regards Matt

Nice vid! It would be interesting to see your erection time once you're more experienced matron......lol! I have a TFG force8 2 man for my winter fishing. Built in groundsheet and inner mozzy panel and I can have that up in about 5 minutes. Lots of tackle tarts take the piss out of me using TFG gear, but my bivvy is like £160 new, and its spacious and warm enough for me. But I'm only 5ft8", so I don't need huge bivvies anyway. Anyway, I could see the advantages of this. Especially a week n France
