Avinu Malkeinu (“Our Father, Our King”) Our Father, our King! we have sinned before You. Our Father our King! we have no King except You. Our Father, our King! deal with us [kindly] for the sake of Your Name. Our Father, our King! renew for us a good year… Our Father, our King! hear our voice, spare us and have compassion upon us. Our Father, our King! accept our prayer with compassion and favor. Our Father, our King! open the gates of heaven to our prayer. Our Father, our King! remember, that we are dust. Our Father, our King! please do not turn us away empty-handed from You. Our Father, our King! let this hour be an hour of compassion and a time of favor before You. Our Father, our King! have compassion upon us… Our Father, our King! favor us and answer us for we have no accomplishments; deal with us charitably and kindly and deliver us.

This music (and many others) was composed by Max Janowski of Chicago. Max was the Music Director at my Synagogue. I had no idea that these melodies , which I thought were ancient, were written by him. When I was married in 1976, we asked Max to play the organ at our wedding. He played Dodi Li when the bride walked in. Some years later I discovered that he was an icon of Hebrew music. He died many years ago and is missed by all. A few years ago there was a retrospective of his music at our Synagogue. Cantors from all over the country (and Chicago) attended to sing his music.

Thank-you. The Hebrew, Avinu Malkeinu translates as Lord, King. It's about G-d. In Judaism we hyphenate G-d, so his name is not destroyed. I would have no idea if your Ave Maria is similar in some respects. The best rendition of this prayer is by Barbra Streisand that's on KZbin. The image is her profile with a drop earring. Also, Cantor Marcus Feldman, Sinai Temple in Los Angeles is excellent. Hebrew is very powerful, especially when sung. Traditionally, Jewish Temples did not have choir and organ, but that was instituted in Germany. The Jews thought if they "Christianized" the religion they would be accepted as equally German. History proved them wrong by the Holocaust. When a Cantor has a powerful voice with the right inflections a choir/organ is not needed, and drowns-out the power of Hebrew. This is my opinion.

xtian catholics are the biggest idol worshippers in the world, you worship jesus and mary, you are in very big trouble, this is not even a proper Jewish synagogue it is the same as a xtian church that is why you like the video, it reminds you of your terrible idol worshipping church. Jews and xtians are not brothers at all, we are totally opposite you you, we worship only G-D THE MASTER OF THE UNVERVERSE AND BEYOND, there is nothing but HIM, HE cannot be seen or even described and it is forbidden to even imagine what HE looks like for HE (G-D) cannot be understood by a human. We have to love and fear G-D at the same time, for HE is our KING and Eternal Father, there is nothing but HIM. jesus was a greek roman invention and they copied the Holy Torah and made the new testament to suite their needs at the time. They even copied the Greek and Roman gods which many of the fake gods were also born to virgins. Fools like you are then brainwashed to believe in all of this rubbish. Remember that if you do research you will see it is all documented by the Holy Rabbis from thousands of years ago and it is available to read by people but they are too lazy to find out the truth or brainwashed like you . Listen to Rabbi Singer and Rabbi Mizrachi on you tube to find the truth then later deal with your Cognitive Dissonance to overcome your stupidity...

xtianity is idol worship - you will be punished very severely later on the Day of Judgement. jesus has got nothing to do with G-D THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE AND BEYOND. You are the same as a buddist or hindu so do not confuse your idol worshipping with a Hebrew song dedicated to G-D THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE AND BEYOND. There is only ONE G-D, no jesus, no buddah, no voodo, no witchcraft, no other thousands of religious cults out there. Use the internet and your brain and do research. Listen to Rabbi Singer, Rabbi Mizrachi on you tube, you will then learn that jesus was a roman greek invention, where they copied the Holy Torah and made the new testament to suite their needs. When you have to answer to G-D later in the Court of Heaven, HE will ask you why you did not seek HIM and only HIM. Why did you go to a church and pray to jesus instead of seeking advice from a Holy Orthodox Rabbi and to connect directly to G-D THE MASTER OF THE WORLD AND BEYOND. There is no excuse for saying I thought jesus was a part of you and I can't be guilty. G-D might say to you, did you live in the Amazon Jungle where you could not read or write and had a witch doctor? you would say no, then G-D might say to you then why did you not seek me as you had the resources to find me. I hope that your mother is not Jewish and you have decided to become xtian, I'll let you find out what punishment will be waiting for you later, it is very scary indeed...

Commit yourself to the one God of Israel and your eyes will open up. If you learn Hebrew you'll discover that the New Testament is full of malicious errors perpetrated by Paul for the sake of Rome. I would direct you towards Rabbi Tovia Singer's book "Lets Get Biblical". The New Testament does not stand up to the same level of perfection and scrutiny that you see in the Tanakh. No, we don't call it the "Old Testament" - As a Jew, I cringe whenever I hear someone making such comments. Referring to our holy book as "old" is not cool.

Makes me all the more proud of my diverse and mixed heritages, spirituality, sensuality, my whole being. My late father was often asked to play violin for various occasions such as these in church, mosque, synagogue...in times of joy, times of sorrow. My mother often sang in places of worship as well along the same vein as my dad. Both agreed they were doing God's work through their gift of music, anywhere they were assigned, whatever the occasion. I was deeply touched as were my parents when watching the evening national news and heard Pope John Paul II was invited by the Jewish community in Rome to attend services at the synagogue there, since the days of Sts Peter and Paul in typical Jewish fashion and spreading the good news there. He also delivered an apology towards them in being victims of anti-Semitism throughout the centuries.

Stunning! It's hard to imagine anyone ever doing a better job. And thank you so much for adding the English translation! You know, you may have more Catholic followers than Jewish... I'm Catholic and am forever amazed at how the apple didn't fall far from the Jewish tree 😁. There really isn't that great of a difference! Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this with us, it's very healing to listen to you. Love and prayers from Atlanta 💖

JACK UZI: I wonder if you are Jewish! Did you go to Yom Kippur services anywhere? Please take the time to pick up your Artscroll Siddur, turn to pages 776 and read carefully to page 780. Unfortunately, Ni'ilah is over, and you said your hateful words. BTW: We belong to Orthodox, Chabad, Conservative, and Reform congregations. There are far more identical portions than you can ever imagine.

@@jackbeauregard-londonome on. This is not an Orthodox Shul. Everywhere else men and women sit together, and yes, some even have female Rabbis and Cantors. If you wish to keep everything as it was, stay with the Orthodox or better yet the Chassidic. I was brought up very traditional but men and women sat together. They did not appear on the Bima together. Times and ideas do change a bit here and there.

@Chana Bayla No they would not. That is why we go to Traditional or Conservative only. Did the Chabad thing a few times. Just not for me.
