I love that you get your son involved. I can’t wait until my grandson is of age to “help” me with projects. My daughter is more handy than my son-in-law! 🤣

It's a _very_ loose use of the term "help" but it's great spending time together and trying to teach them :)

I hope you do not discourage her! I was always taking things apart and putting them back together. I also had to put back together things my older sister took apart. I was discouraged from doing so many things, and looking back, would have made a fine mechanical engineer. My HS geometry teacher told me he wasn't going to bother answering any of my questions since I was never going to use it anyway. Fine things to say to a woman who framed additions!

What an interesting coincidence. I picked up an issue of Family Handyman (July/August 2020) and they featured and refurbished/updated 72 Avion camper as well. Cool project.

I saw that too! I've been torn on whether to paint or try to strip the anodized layer and polish it. Seeing how good theirs looked has me leaning towards painting now

@@YouCanMakeThisToo I understand the appeal of polished aluminum....but theirs looks good too--and probably much easier. Good luck with your project. I will be following it.

Great to see the kids getting involved. I really need to do some work on my vintage trailer. But i still use it, so it makes it harder to commit to a path of renovating it.

Hi Caleb, as a woodworker, can you suggest how it would be possible to custom fabricate a replacement screen door for a vintage Avion in wood? How would you curve/arch the door as the original is designed? Ours doesn't fit well, leaves huge gaps all the way around and the poor design of the screen is that it can pop out so easily, accidentally pushing on it going out, for example. Would like to make one that's more functional and durable. Thanks so much.
@YouCanMakeThisToo3 жыл бұрын
You've basically got three approaches for anything like that. A piece of wood big enough you can cut it out. Make a form and steam and bend the wood, or make a form and do a technique call bent laminations. There's lots of videos on both of those techniques.

Great to see you getting on with the trailer. I hope you saved at least one cabinet piece to be a template for the curve on the inside when you make those new, awesome cabinets. Oh, and a little grease on the door latch mech please. Thanks for sharing, especially the setbacks because it makes your achievements that much better.

It's great to get progress on it! The interior skins and insulation are out too, wanna get a little farther before doing another episode though. Trying to decided between doing a jack lift, or building a gantry. Good idea on the grease! And yes, I did save some templates :)

Hi Caleb, love your channel. I have a question on another subject. Building a live edge table 36 x 78 x 1.5 thick. The customer wants solid slab legs one at each end. How wide should the legs be to prevent tipping? Thanks so much for your time .
@YouCanMakeThisToo4 жыл бұрын
If you're doing slab legs on a slab table, I'd do them full width for aesthetics. I did a table kinda like that some time back kzbin.info/www/bejne/omGuao2vidZ3ebc

drip some coke on the chrome and rub it with aluminum foil. I know it sounds weird but it works great. The acidic coke breaks down the corosion and the foil is tough enough to scratch off the corosion but soft enough not to scratch the chrome.
