I love your passion for GA. I watched one of your videos when you were explaining your childhood and your love for your family and what you went through. I made my kids watch that video because my kids are spoiled and have a healthy father, mother, and family. THANK YOU for all that you do. You deserve this upgrade and the fact that you been saving for this for a long time makes you a responsible person. Keep the vidoes coming and my son will be hitting the sky soon because of you. Ingredients may be the same but one soup tastes way better. The execution is as important as the ingredients are. Not saying any one brand is better but some people may prefer one brand over the other due to the execution and how its packages. Me personally, I’m learning to fly in Garmin products and since that’s what I know I will most likely go for because I know it well. Despite the added cost.

You are right, Garmin at this moment is more name that other things they are no bad but way expensive just because the name, Dynon looks great, perfect price for a non rich aircraft owner. Go for it, keep doing your videos and of course have FUN101

love your videos. down to earth guy and you save for your upgrades. Love the new upgrades for sure. my friend who watched your video has a aspen and is now looking into Dynon. Great choice with a lot of options. Any our also right on buying the same with the same results. keep up the great work My family loves watching!

I was impressed with Dyon in a friends RV8a. As for me, think I’ll install a Garmin 175 in my 1968 Mooney G.

That's the way I would go as well. A lot of my friends are getting away from Garmin because how pricy they are and its hard to deal with their customer service end. Great choice! Plus I am sure you are going to sell your Garmin 480 and other stuff to also help out with the cost. Thanks for sharing!!

You are 100% correct by saying Garmin is over charging. I know a lot of pilots that are getting away from Garmin because they are just over priced with everything. Even my buddies who have boats changed out there Garmin and went to a different company. You said it perfect that every certified unit goes through the same process with the FAA. Great choice and keep up the great work. My family respects and loves your videos.

Recently was lucky to purchase a new plane (Alpi Aviation Pioneer 300 Griffon), and had to decide which glass to purchase. Garmin was just too expensive so I went the Dynon route. Brilliant solution and I’m not tethered to Garmin software solutions either (I use SkyDemon for VFR).

Dynon has all the training you need on line for free. With the D-3 or the G-5 you have all the back up you need check them out!

I came to the same conclusion. Dynon kicks ass. But for IFR. You are driving it with a avidyne which is as expensive as all your dynon components. Any cheaper why than a garmin box or avidyne box which are. $$$$ i appreciate any input. Thank you i will be doing my mooney also

Ken Estes You can use the Dynon charts. You have to install a USB port and put a thump drive in the port. That’s runs all your charts in Dynon. It’s a 100 bucks year subscription. To update the charts you simply pull the thumb drive out and update it. I’m going to hide that port under the panel but have easy access to it. My Garmin 480 is not user friendly really and Avidyne is a much cheaper solution with all the options I need and it works very well with Dynon. I didn’t have to go that route and can keep my Garmin. But because I’m saving lots of money with Dynon I am able to get a Avidyne 540 box and it’s a great backup with charts and much more. I figured while I’m making a new panel just get it all done. I am planing on keeping my Mooney for a very long time.

@@skyviewflier Dan, You can use any IFR certified WASS gps. The certified IFR unit will connect to the DYNON system thru an ARINC429 box that is purchased thru Dynon. For every Radio/gps you will need an ARINC box, each box is able to conect one GPS signal and one NAV signal. I have a 430W and a 650 connected to my DYNON HDX 1100. You will still need to get your IFR updates from the Radio Mfg. to be legal. Dynon VFR and IFR charts are available thru Seattle Avionics for about 100 bucks a year. Once you load your flight plan you can put you ipad or tablet in the back seat, at that point everything you need is in on your Dynon display. The Dynon Certified is awesome, far beyond my needs for the general aviation flights i do. I looked at all the other vendors and Dynon just beat the price point without sacrificing any quality for 14 CFR part 91 operations. Very Very Happy with My choice, and the staff at Dynon has been outstanding from the purchase thru the install. The product and manuals were so good that we only had two questions for support team, Our requests were answered very quickly. Support is an important part the choice, and Dynon is on top of there game.

Do you have electric trim currently, if not are you able to install electric trim when the auto pilot is approved? I love your "average guy" approach to flying with budgets in mind. Thanks for your videos! Kyle

Thanks! I dont have electric trip. It can be installed. But I will most likely not do that. Basically the auto pilot will say trim up or down.

Dynon dual screens, 15000 plus install, then 15999 for an avidyne 540 + install ?pushing above 40000. Those are numbers way too high for the average game pilot. It will look nice though!

David Tesch true. But I got a big discount for the 540 and I’m selling all my other stuff in my panel. After all said and done I’ll be paying like 3,500 for the 540. Lots of reasons why this makes sense to me. If I had to start from scratch I wouldn’t be able to afford it even tho I saved for 3 yrs

David Tesch Yes. WAAS unites especially. My Garmin 480 WAAS can go for 4,500 ish alone with out the Glideslope But I’m going to sell the 480 and the glideslope as a package. Even with the trays in the antenna

How much do you save on yearly subscription data for plates, maps, etc? How much did you save in installation (labor)? And how much did you save in equipment cost? Great video, thank you very much.

Was the Garmin G3X panel an option you evaluated? Looking at buying a 1966 Mooney M20C Ranger and doing a G3X panel in it. Plane already has a couple G5's in it though.

Yes. That was my other options amongst others. I also thought about G5’s. But the Dynon SkyView HDX has everything included in one screen along with engine monitoring.

I've had so many Garmin products over the years, fitness monitors, watches, golf gps, fishing gps, and every single one of them has felt like a low quality over-priced and massively overrated product. Not one product have I been 100% happy with. Whether it be poor reliability, low-quality plastics, poor screen quality or just simply doesn't work and the company is happy to take my money, I have zero worries about considering Dynon instead. I would hazard to guess they place far greater value on each of their customers.
