Put a full Dynon system (certified) in our Cessna 172B over the winter - Have about 20 hours of flying time on it now. Love it! It was 'easy' to install, easy to setup, easy to learn when flying. 10 hours of that flight time has been with a Cathay Pacific 777 pilot, and he loves it too.

Great vlog. You are correct about the good ole steam gauges. Yes they do the job well enough. It is however comparable to my horse drawn plough works good enough for me. It only takes four days to complete that task. A modern up to date properly equipped tractor would complete the same task in four to six hours. To make that more relevant. A modern inter grated panel or even better several of them. Not only can you by quickly scanning one screen. Access all relevant systems both situational, (Altitude, heading, airspeed, pitch, yaw, turn, amount of trim.) All of your relevant aircraft systems. Engine RPM, pressure, temperature. Fuel, amounts in which tanks are available. The tank you currently using. Gallons or pounds of fuel being used. At current rate of fuel use how long time/distance remaining. If the maths is not within a safe positive result? Can I alter power settings enough or do I have to reroute? All part of flying. With the benefit from the modern systems. The quick, accurate, reliable access to the relative data. Not only saves time from amount of extra instruments scanned, cross referencing that information the mental crunching of the stats. All resulting in less stress on the pilot. Gives the pilot more time to actually fly the aircraft. Being more aware what is happening outside of the aircraft. Spotting a potential collision threat birds/drone/aircraft, two seconds earlier. Could be the difference between a close call or a lot of people having to file loads of paperwork. Any reduction of the stresses and work loads involved can only be a good thing.

Nice set up Bryan however I disagree on the iPad option not being a back-up. It’s actually a completely separate battery backed up and ADHRS separate from the Dynon system which is why I went that route.
@ExperimentalAircraftChannel
@ExperimentalAircraftChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Not saying that it isn't or can't be... just that you have an OPTION with a secondary with Dynon as a backup and also that in addition there are batteries to back each of those up. Can't wait to see you flying! You have really made some awesome progress this past year and been able to get after it! 2022 will be the year for you now won't it?! :-)

Did you get any guidence on what design criteria need to be considered on antenna vs. module location vs. lengh of cable (like mounting a module in the back of the A/C) allowable back to the base unit ?

Thumbs up. If I were to do my Cruzer panel again I would definitely go with two HDX screens instead of the one HDX and one iPad. On my Super Duty I did go with the two Dynon screens. Speaking of packaging, Dynon designs their packaging sort of like Apple-it's a work of art! On the other hand, I bought a Garmin 175 IFR GPS and it arrived loose in a box with no installation instructions, and no real protection for anything. It looked like someone else returned it and just threw it in a box, and then Aircraft Spruce resold it to me. Absolutely terrible packaging.

Great video, thanks. I'm all for new technology as long as it's been proven...lots of vacuum systems have failed over the years to. It's like the engine argument, lots of old technology engines continue to fail. I keep going back and forth between Dynon and Garnin. I hate Apple and I feel like Garin is the same, that being said I hate how Apple products work, but Gramin seems pretty easy. If Dynon had the smart glide feature or something similar I'd go Dynon for sure! Keep up the great videos!

@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel thanks Bryan. I started on my PPL 8 years ago before my son was born and just ran out of time. Over Christmas this year I started getting the bug again (the experimental bug came about a month later) and decided to move forward. About 150 hours worth of videos since, doing my ground school, starting flight training in the spring, and you could say it's borderline infatuation! Your channel has been a fantastic spot to learn, always entertaining and informative. I appreciate it and I'm sure so does the rest of the experimental world! Brad

I have a similar system on my RV8. The wiring on the Dynon using the standard DB9 pins is much easier than the Garmin high density pins.

At one point during this KZbin video you mentioned buying stuff from Aircraft Spruce. Just wanting to know if they have gotten any better as I have read a lot of negative reviews on them. Would like to know if they've gotten better because they certainly do have the best prices.

Very nice pile of parts! I chose a nearly identical system for my Kitfox, except that I'm using a single 10" EFIS and an iPad. I didn't purchase the pre-made Dynon wiring harnesses, as I think they're overpriced and wasteful for builders of smaller aircraft like mine; you pay for a lot of wire length that you'll end up cutting out of them. I'm comfortable making my own from scratch, so that made sense for me. I also bought a couple of autopilot servos at a good price from another builder who went in a different direction. If you think you'll install the autopilot servos, you should really make that decision up front. You'll probably want the Autopilot Control Panel (much easier than navigating menus to control the aircraft), in which case your panel layout will need to change. With that module installed, you won't need the standalone "LEVEL" button, as that button is on the A/P Control Panel.

Biggest difference between the experimental and certified systems is the certified are “locked down” requiring an A&P to update things. Not so with experimental.

Brian mate, far too much talking about boxing, you started off saying you were not going to talk about unpacking the goods, next minute you are talking about the boxing. You need to have a professional sales person doing the presentation. You are far better behind the camera where you can zoom in to the product you are showing. Camera is far too far away, Sorry to be so critical , but I’m really interested in what you are putting in your aircraft. Thank you
