Good video, i learned from your video, i learned about the brown around the edge, i did not the cause but from now on i will mist my avocado plants. You should consider grafting your plant so you can have avocados however grow it as a house plant that's fine the plant looks beautiful very healthy.

Hey Titus! Thank you for your video! Two quick questions! Our avocado plant was never proned, and now it’s got 2.5 feet of stem, and two 2 feet long branches with a bunch of leaves at the end. Do you think it’s a good idea to prone it? It does have some small leaves 5 inches below the split of the branches. So I’m thinking if I cut off the entire top and just leave the 3 small leaves, it will still be better than the tall spindly plant we have now hahah. Second question, that’s the spray you used to get rid of fungus flies again? We were given a plant and it’s got a lot of fungus flies in it 😅😅😅. Hey thank you a ton!

100% yes :) Usually pruning promotes trees to bush out. I would leave at least 2 nodes with leaves per trunk so that it still has a source of energy absorption

Super helpful video!!! So thorough! Thank you!! I have a young avocado plant. But I live in a low light very cloudy area. My avocado plant is very long and leggy. I want to prune it but it only has 3 leaves at the top of it. Should I just cut it by a node to try to get it to branch out ?
@TitusFeliciano
@TitusFeliciano 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊. I’m reluctant to say yes, because baby plants are really sensitive to pruning with leaving any leaves to sustain it and draw energy back to the plant. I would suggest just pinching the tip leaf only and leaving 2 leave at the tip. Once the other bottom nodes starts getting growth, you can then proceed to pruning it lower. Also. Put it close to the window seal as being leggy is a sign that it’s not getting enough sunlight. Hope that helps

Hi, awesome video. One of the best. May you advise me please. I germinated the avo seed in water and have recently planted it in a pot. I think it's been in the pot for maybe 6/7 weeks but roots are already poking out the drainage holes. Could it be time to get it into a bigger pot already?
@TitusFeliciano
@TitusFeliciano 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shabi 😊. Usually when roots poke out it’s just looking for water outside of the pot, but doesn’t necessarily mean a repot is needed. If you want the roots to just grow inside the pot, I would repot in the same pot and just adjust the roots so it’s inside the soil. The seed can be fragile if it’s still present so just be careful

I loved your video! Can you please talk about root rot? I grew mine in little glass jars and they were growing so fast but then some of the roots became very dark brown and soft and I think it slowly killed the rest of my plant 😕. How did it get root rot? Should I cut off the soft brown roots?
@TitusFeliciano
@TitusFeliciano 3 жыл бұрын
Hey @jotarosa, thanks for the tip. In Australia it’s nearly winter and I usually get root rot during that period I will make a future video of it and will plan for it.😊 For now, tip for rooted plants: don’t keep them in water for too long as some roots aren’t tolerant to having just hydro. Several issues you may have could be a build up of chemicals from the water, algae and also lack of oxygenated space for the roots to grow. As soon as roots have a second growth on it, I would usually plant in “airy soil mix” which I made a recent video of 😊 So definitely cut the rotting areas until the white part. Dip it in powder root hormone and put it in ‘moist’ sphagnum moss until it regrows roots again. If there are bacterial issues the rot may spread and kill the plant, but hope it’s not too late

For seedling soil, i would tend to use 1/3 perlite and 2/3 Peat Coir or Pear Moss as it is more sterile with less likelihood of root rot. I would avoid fertilizing it till about 1 year and repotted to a bigger pot. Sometimes the seed just needs time to root. It may be that the seed has become dormant or have died. Can you check the roots to see if it’s white? Feel free to send me photos on my insta so I can see how the seed is looking in the soil. Likely the best thing for preventing fungus gnats in the first place: look up bottom watering for your plants. Basically you just let your plants soak up water from the bottom of the pot, leaving the top soil dry, thus preventing fungus gnats. Not to mention that bottom watering is also good for forming roots on the bottom of your pot, not near the top where they can end up strangling your plant.

Hi Raf. I’m not sure where you’re from. But if it’s in a pot, you could potentially get it to re-establish itself indoor as long as you don’t overwater it. I had an avocado outdoor planted in soil during non snowy winter here in Melbourne and it grew back leaves in Summer after it shed off during winter.

My avocado leaves stay droppy after watering it or leaving it for 2 week without water. What should I do? Only one leave stays upright
@TitusFeliciano

If you start loosing leaves below, it may be the start of root rot or too dry. Avocado loves lots and lots of hydration usually, so 2 weeks may he too long?

I have an avocado plant that I'm growing currently, the thing is, my avocado died, BUT then it came back to life several days later. BUT then instead of seeing one plant.. I saw TWO plants!! Is this normal? And how do I separate those two? Or should I separate those two? I'm a beginner gardener and this is my FIRST AVOCADO PLANT EVER!!!

Pruning is the best way to do it. Just leave at least 2 leaves from where you prune to allow if to bush and branch out :)

Indoor I usually water thoroughly weekly and if the weather is really hot. Twice a week. And yes I would cover the seed with soil once germinated.

I've just grown my very first avocado tree from pit! It's grown up to 8 Inches so far. My understanding is that you want to prune it generally around 12 inches tall or so. I also heard that you want to prune from the top node of the 2nd set of leaves? My main concern right now is that I live in Canada. Should I prune soon or is it too close to the cold Autumn months now and I should wait until Spring at this point? Should I pot it in soil soon and before the pruning?
@TitusFeliciano
@TitusFeliciano 10 ай бұрын
Pruning and repotting it would be best done in Spring for best results. I found they’re quite hardy plants, but if it’s still young it’s better to do it close to the end of winter season close to spring.
@Greensky02
@Greensky02 10 ай бұрын
@@TitusFeliciano Thanks for that! I either have to plant it in soil (from water) right now while it's still warm weather or leave it in water until next year close to spring and couldn't decide which was better. Another thing I noticed in water is that the water will turn into a fluorescent green after some time. Not sure what that's about. I change the water out when that happens and have to use a pipe cleaner to wipe away the green pollen-like substance from the glass because it sticks on there like crazy.
@TitusFeliciano

@@Greensky02 it’s algae. If the water is exposed to sun it will create that green film. Maybe try putting the jar away from direct light but close enough that the plant still gets light. Excessive algae may also cause root rot

My avocado has taken a turn for the worst and I don't know whyyyy. Browning leaves, all the leaves have fallen off and I've recently reported, cut some dead roots and trimmed back the stems that were left. 😭 I don't know what else to do.

I think. Overwatering or maybe it’s time to let it go. Sometimes, I find once ignored they thrive. There’s this avocado seed I was composting outside our house that kept growing new shoots. I kept cutting it to no avail. It started to grow more shoots, so I just uprooted it lols hehe 😅 Just try another one if it dies off.

Can you actually put the plant on a table, then actually step back so the camera shows the whole plant, and you actually don't have to keep lifting it up? Isn't that actually the whole purpose of making a plant video, to actually show the plant, or is this a 'look at me' video. I'm really having an issue with my avocado plant leaves curling. thanks.

Hey Roxanne thanks for your creative feedback :) My space limited at the time and I didn’t have the resources Available to accommodate having a small table, chair and also camera stand that was high enough to enable me to do this at the time. As you’ve noticed it’s me talking and not the plant hence you see me directly at the camera and I show the plant as fit when I do my spiel. My more current videos would be more wide angled as I’ve upgraded my camera and stand by I still so it from the floor due to spacing issue. Hope you understand 😊
