Excellent video with lots of useful information. Many people learning to graft fail to realise that properly mating the scion to rootstock is part of the process. As you point out, major parts of the ptocess are propper preparation and post graft care. A quick question for you Mr. Raymond. I often graft avocados and mangoes with suboptimal scions (scions with buds that have not emerged), and wrap with plastic strips to retain the moisture. After four weeks, is it generally safe to remove the plcastic covering the scion?

I know we are from different climatic regimes, however if it is done between late Spring and Summer the grown bud should be mature enough to survive your Winter conditions.

Is there any way that the Ministry of Agriculture import other varieties of avocado in the country? There are so many nice varieties in other countries that we could welcome in Jamaica.

There are a lot of both recognized international commercial cultivars and varieties that are here, and there are also a lot of local Jamaican cultivars here just waiting to be discovered.

Ive seen some cleft grafing done where the root stock is slitted more to just by the cambium just behind the bark as opposed to slitting down the middle of the stem. Whats your opinion of this method?
@bestfruitsinjamaica9295 Жыл бұрын
There are many methods that can be used, as long as the scion will grow after grafting, then it can be tried.

@@bestfruitsinjamaica9295 ok fair enough but from your experience with grafting which of the two methods offers a higher success rate?

Whst if you just use a wire to act as a frame over the entire plant and put a plastic bag over this frame?

It probably is possible, why don't you try it and see what the results are like.
