I tried this on my avocado tree. I hope it works. I brought back some scions from my grandpa's tree in mexico. The scions where to big for the root stock so i tried this method because ive seen this done on citrus trees

Why cut the root stock above the graft? ( minute 2:48 to 3:15)
@brajhanespiritu3605 жыл бұрын
That really was so stupid. The cut was unnecesary or below than the cut would be right.

I can only assume it tells the tree is damaged and it must repair itself. might help the adoption of the graft. This is purely a guess.

@@brajhanespiritu360 It wasn't stupid at all. The cut is for redirecting some part of the sap to the newly grafted bud in order to stimulate its healing and growth without having to remove the upper part of the rootstock. The upper part of the rootstock is momentarily left to provide energy from its leaves during the healing process and the growth of the bud. Is this procedure necessary? Nope, lots of people don't mind to do this and the grafted bud just grows fine. However, that doesn't mean that's stupid!
