Best video upload of back yard grower i am following your advice on watering... I am in South Africa and its summer here well over 100degree day and my young trees leaves dont wilt anymore sice i water them everymorning... i have watch many videos on youtube but you and Gary Matsuaka knows what avo tree needs.i have a Hass , LHass , Maluma , pinkerton ,Linda , Reed and Ryan 2 to 3 years old ...ive killed a few trees from rootrot beacause of organic material thats in potting soil the nursery puts in pots so with my trees that survived i washes of the root ball then transplat in dg and perlite with compost on top... after a year i transplant to soil in my yard wich is dg...i water every day pot or directly in soil...avo trees love water but the so called experts know nothing they just want to make money.

I don’t think the experts are as desperate as the rest of us, so they have resources & time we don’t have. And since lots of water & DG works great & both are free, why not go with the simple/free solution? Thanks for watching & for the encouragement. I’m super glad it’s working for you too! Godspeed to you & all your Avo efforts!

Case G Thanks for encouraging others with your experience - others who may be undecided as to whether or not to chance over watering like the so-called experts often warn them about. Sometimes one must be desperate like we both once were in order to take risks & chance losing something in order to gain so much more. So glad you followed my advice & you now regularly enjoy the fruit of your risk taking. Thanks for watching & God bless!

I'll see what I can do... I have a still photo picture a shingle valley detail the way I like to do them. I was only ever called back on one out of all the valleys I've done this way & from that time forward I added another layer of leak protection into my shingle valley installation method. That was over fifteen years ago & I've never been called back on a valley installation since then. Chimney flashing details are pretty straight forward. I'll see about doing a video on shingle step flashing & combine it with a chimney saddle in the same video so if you put the two concepts together you should have everything you need to do the flashings around a chimney, with the exception of a roof-to-wall chimney base flashing. Thanks for watching...

You are a wealth of Info!! Thanks so much for the videos. So my tree I believe is dehydrated so even though it is Winter in So CA Lakewood/Long Beach area, I'll water now and saturate. However, darn... I do not know about the drainage under the tree area. I'll need to research that as well. I hope it is not root rot but the drainage is not great. Ugh, I do not have a green thumb!

Kat4Animals00 all you can do is experiment & learn to read your own tree based on the changes you make. Unless an expert comes to look at your tree in person it's really I'll advised to give specific advice. The one thing that I keep coming back to is the fact that these are tropical trees that are far more subject to dehydration than root rot & proceed with your experiments from there. Brown leaf tips & sunburn young branches are tell-tail signs of dehydration in avocado trees. Good luck!

Yes… I had to prune this tree often, otherwise it would be impossible to get under it to care for it properly. Avocado trees are great at extracting nutrients from the soil for fast tree growth. What they’re not good at is extracting water from the soil. And that makes perfect sense right? Because avocado trees are more tropical fruit trees, they’re from a climate that has tons of moisture precipitation & fewer nutrients in the topsoil due to volcanic activity. So they are used to climates that have a lot of rainwater, preventing them from extracting too much water from the soil in tropical regions where there is excess rainfall. And they have excellent ability to extract nutrients from the soil for growth since typically they live in environments where there are fewer nutrients in the soil because of less topsoil production from other annual plant foliage decay. So they do grow exceedingly fast if they have sufficient water & should be pruned regularly. The reason they should be pruned is similar to why they don’t need extra nutrients & do need extra water… tropical environments provide extra water, fewer soil nutrients & lots of tropical wind that tends to naturally prune the branches. Does that all make sense?

Martin Szy I don’t remember for sure but somehow I seem to remember 6.5+ ph. I might have tested the soil when working with tomatoes or hydrangeas. Can’t be certain. In any case, throughout my area I witnessed hundreds of avocado trees struggling for miles around from the same dehydration issues with burned leaf tips, sunburnt branches, sparse foliage & fruit. It took me years to figure out why but when I finally got it, it was a lightbulb moment I knew that I needed to share with the guacamole loving world. Later, it dawned on me that everything I was now doing was pretty much how God provides for these trees in nature, particularly in the tropics where these trees do best. Hawaii is a perfect example. Dear Duster Hi I planted an avocado from seed in February and It's growing well...I was watering it 3 times a week in spring and by increasing the temperature in summer I started watering it every day at night. I think the light condition was Ok as well. but since almost a month I realized some brown-black spots starting from the lower leaves that is spreading slowly and the infection moved to upper leaves...I think it is fungal disease so I got Mancozeb powder and dissolved it in water and sprayed it on the leaves but I think it doesn’t work! now my question is what should I do to stop these spots. I can send you the picture of my Avocado if you give me your email and hope you help to solve this problem plus you tell me the type of my avocado plant. Your Videos helped me a lot. Thank you

Mojtaba Shamayeli Yeganeh keep in mind that leaves don’t live forever... are all the leaves turning black or just the older more mature leaves? Are the spots really black or are they brown? Does the discoloration begin at the tips of the leaves or spotted all throughout the leaves? What possessed you to water it at night? I used to water mine at 6pm every evening. What part of the country do you live in & what are the temps currently like? Also, these trees need full sun to resist fungus & other pests. Does it have full sun & does it have good drainage - just in case it may have root rot. I never thought I’d suggest it but it does happen occasionally & good drainage is essential for these trees. Also, something most people are unaware of is that many water companies put bleach in their city water supply. Regular tap water sprayed on the leaves once a week from a garden hose will help to kill many pests & fungus & keep your trees healthy. It works fantastic on roses also... blessings!

Hello dan , I love your videos and the updates on your avocado trees . You mention on all your videos to water the trees a lot. my question is what type of soil do you have ? And what part of California you live in . I have a lot of clay soil and I wonder if I water a lot I’m going to end up with root root. I live in central California and it gets a little cold ou here. Please let me know . Thank you
@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 6 жыл бұрын
This is simple... I have DG. It's very porous with great drainage. So with clay you do have to be more careful. But, it's still very simple. If your young branches are sunburning, if the fruit won't hold or if the tips of your leaves are turning brown it needs more water. So my suggestion if you're experiencing any of the symptoms I mentioned, is to increase your watering until your leave tips stop turning brown. You can always cut back little on water if you're worried about it until the tips of the leaves start burning again & increase the watering again until it stops. Burnt leave tips is the number one sign of avocado tree dehydration.

By your experience which is better a seedling fruits or grated cuttings fruits ?
@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 4 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say which tastes better. I guess it depends on variety. My experience definitely contradicts the what I was told about seedling fruit tasting bad & requiring decades to bear. But, my experience also showed that grafted trees are just as difficult to care for as seedling trees. The flavor of the fruit grown on my seedling tree in this video had terrific flavor. I think it was similar to a Pinkerton variety. But I think flavor is effected mostly by the health of the tree & the health of the tree is that single most important factor that I learned to focus on in order to get fruit that tastes the best. Avocado trees metabolize nutrients from the soil really efficiently. What they don’t do well is pull moisture from the soil well, so they easily dehydrate because they are tropical trees that normally grow in wet environments. We take tropical trees & plant them in non-tropical environments & wonder why they’re unhealthy & bear bad fruit, if they bear any fruit at all. So my thing is to give them the water they need regardless of seedling or grafted type, regardless of variety type & learn how to get the best fruit that the tree can produce. Especially in hotter drier climates, adding more nutrients to the soil or growing grafted trees instead of seedling trees, proved just as catastrophic as adding no nutrients or growing only seedling trees. The key for each situation in hotter climates has been hydration of the trees, which enables the trees to thrive, because they are enabled to better metabolize the nutrients that they are already good at metabolizing & which are already available to them in most soil types. These trees don’t need great soil because they are great at extracting nutrients from even bad soil types. What they’re not good at is staying hydrated as I’ve mentioned before. So give your trees good drainage & over water them like they’d have in the tropics & you’ll naturally get the best tasting fruit possible.

Marco Davalos I'm sure that's what the experts told you. Do you know for a fact it was over watered? What kind of soil was it in? Do you know how many years it takes to develop root rot from over watering? And what is wrong with your face? It's kinda off putting... I wish I was still in your area. I'd come diagnose your remaining tree. I applied my same watering techniques to several different trees owned by different people all with similar results. It's just so difficult to mange nutrient intake when fertilizing them unless you up the water volume. I'd say that watering & drainage are more important than nutrients, because the nutrients are already there in the soil. You just need to release them for the tree to metabolize.

@MrThedocholiday

Justin Talavera okay so why do you think it's overwatering as opposed to not having consistent temperature, hydration, nutrients, etc. Because they are in pots? How do you propose that a tree which is sensitive enough to struggle under near perfect conditions in the ground will be able to withstand those three things I just mentioned living in pots? Have you taken those other things into consideration? How do you regulate the root temperature, the hydration intake & nutrient availability in a pot? These trees are sensitive enough to die from those things despite watering them enough, but if you must keep them in pots more water & addition of new soul regularly are your only options without burning them up with fertilizer.

Duster Dan Definitely Wrong advice .. U do NOT want "dirt" in a pot grown Avocado or citrus.! this will almost always lead to dampening of the roots and root.. U wanna use POTTING MIX which is NOT Soil NOR dirt.! potting mix is decomposed Organical material such as bark,leafs,peat moss etc.. what U want to use is either syntetic fertilizers and mineral amendments .. Or an all organic amendments such a azomite and worm castings.! Dirt should NEVER be used in a pot to grow citrus, avocados or mangos.! Its really easy to see if u killed ur tree by over watering put it out look at the root system a spongy BROWN root system means? over watering.. Dry brittle root system means under watering.

Dan , thanks for al the information about watering. I have one more question in regards of watering. In winter time how much water should i put on my fuerte avocado tree ?
@caseG80
@caseG80 5 жыл бұрын
Depends where you live? If your humidity drops really low there going to need water. I live In riverside ca at the Santa Ana winds are very strong threw my yard. Usually the Santa Ana winds are very dry and drops the humidity into single digit. I’ve found avocados dislike low humidity and must be watered more than any book or video ever mentions. I was having a tuff time with my trees until I found dans videos a couple yrs ago. Once I started watering more often and for longer my trees have exploded with growth fruit and always have good looking leaves some may drop but as they do there being replaced. It’s important to water in winter as much as summer especially if your any where in Southern California. Also never clean up under your tree you want a thick layer or leaves sticks ect i bring leaves from around my yard and put them under my avocado tree. Avocados have extremely shallow roots and drink a lot of water I water a lot and have not found any negative effects from over watering it’s all been positive. No one speaks about this. Cheers

@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 6 жыл бұрын
Tara Build a greenhouse, is all I can advise... Avocado trees are semi-tropical & expecting them to do well in colder climates is unreasonable. They get frost bite easily below mid 30’s temperatures, so the only way I know to grow them in cold climates is to have them in huge pots in a greenhouse. Keeping the pots larger is to help maintain more stable root temperatures & consistent hydration. Pots tend to dry out faster than the ground & are more easily affected by temperature variations as well, so keeping the pots larger can help avoid that problem. Watering & drainage are crucial to these trees also... probably even more important, but watering & drainage are directly affected by whether you grow your trees in pots or in the ground. Either way, you’re gonna need to keep them indoors if you grow them in colder climates. Hope you don’t mind me telling you how, just in case you’re enthusiastic enough to try it. Godspeed!

Tara The bigger the pot of the better. You don’t want the tree to know that it’s in a pot. If the pot is large enough, It should produce just fine. Just make sure that if you grow it in a greenhouse that you leave the doors & windows open during the day when blossoms are on the tree so critters can pollinate the tree for you.

Once you realize that the most common problem with avocado trees is dehydration rather than other things, caring for them becomes mush easier. They can be susceptible to other things but not like they are to dehydration. This is what the professionals don't want anyone to know, because watering your avocado trees is basically free... free of their advice & free of their snake oil products they sell all of us poor suckers to get our fruit trees to grow the heavenly green guac! There are only a few things these trees need to thrive... The first is sunlight, the second is water & the third is nutrients from the soil, but there are problems with each of these things that can also harm the trees if given in excess, because too much of any good things will harm them also. The sunlight needs to trigger photosynthesis without dehydrating them. The water protects the trees from becoming dehydrated & enables proper metabolism of all the plant hormones, nutrients & photosynthesis. But the problem with water is that if there isn't sufficient drainage, then water can induce fungus on the roots which can also damage the tree; but root rot is much more rare than the professionals like to admit, whereas dehydration is common in ALL avocado trees. Lastly, nutrients need to be present in the soil similarly to water, but far fewer nutrients are necessary than any of the pros like to admit also. The key to all three of these needs is hydration. So what's the takeaway lesson here? Learning to recognize hydration issues is key, because hydration is the most common problem in these trees. So getting back to your issue with the leaves... Hydration issues are most commonly seen the the leaves & young branches. Leaves turning brown at the tips or spotting throughout & younger branches appearing sunburned are the most obvious signs, while waxy or half wilted looking leaves are more subtle signs of dehydration. This is taking a long time... Anyway, try doubling your watering on your plants, if they start showing recovery signs, then start tapering back the amount of water you give them until you start to see signs again of dehydration as I've mentioned here. When you start to see dehydration issues again then increase your watering again about 20-30% & see if that doesn't solve the problem. Also, you must consider the seasons & their effects on hydration, but don't assume because they're inside these trees don't feel the change of seasons... they do & they respond accordingly so keep that in mind also. Seasons & temperature effect hydration also so be aware of whether you ought to increase or decrease watering based on temperature or seasonal changes & go from there. Try it & see what happens... Thanks for watching & hope that helps.
@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 6 жыл бұрын
Also, one more things that's very important... Feeding your trees extra nutrients of any kind without significantly increasing their water consumption can burn the leaves just as bad as dehydration or even worse. These trees need water to metabolize all the nutrients they get so if you suddenly give them more, they will respond negatively if you don't significantly increase water consumption along with any kind of nutrients you give them. If the leaves are medium to dark green then they are getting enough nutrients & you don't need to add anything to the soil.

In So-Cal I water every day in summer, 4 days a week in spring & fall, once a week in winter. Where I live daytime summer temps range from 90-115 degrees. Spring & fall range from 70-90. Winter 50-70. That should give some idea regardless of what zone you live in. These are only approximate temps not documented temps. All the so-called experts will tell you to water it less than half that much & all the trees they advise have burnt leaves, sunburnt branches, less foliage & less fruit year after year. It's no wonder their seed born trees don't produce until 20 years old! Just an observation after 10 years of growing these trees myself.

hi!how long will it take for an avocado tree to bear fruits?
@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 6 жыл бұрын
Elma atip Fruit bearing time periods for a new tree depend on the tree itself & how healthy that tree is. I've found from experience that avocado trees thrive best under the most natural circumstances, rather than synthetic man-made circumstances. Imagine for a moment what would be the ideal circumstances an avocado tree could experience in nature without man's intervention... These circumstances would most naturally include a decent amount of nutrients, tons of water & excellent drainage. My advice to all is to learn what nutrients are already in the soil without any fertilizer. Then, learn how substantial amounts of water can unlock those nutrients for the tree to utilize, so the tree can metabolize those nutrients efficiently. Then, learn about what natural soils afford the best drainage to protect your tree from root rot. Lastly learn to read the signs of your particular tree to interpret what your tree responds to best... Oh, and one more thing... Ignore 99% of the noisy advice you get from so called experts who want to sell you on man-made synthetic methods of caring for your tree & your tree will put most experts to shame through bearing copious amounts of excellent fruit.

Noel Hamilton yes, because the soil tends to be much warmer & drier in a container than it would in the ground under similar circumstances. Heat exhaustion is something few people think about for their contained plants or trees, but soil temps between potted plants & ground dwellers can vary by as much as 30+ degrees & that can have a major impact on plant metabolism & water consumption. Does that make sense?

@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 6 жыл бұрын
It really depends on why your tree is dropping the fruit. Notice the fruit on my tree is very shiny. That's a sign of good hydration. Hydration is a tricky thing. It requires not only plenty of water but also cooperating conditions conducive to getting that water into your tree where it can enable your tree to do what it does most naturally. But since too much water can be a problem for these trees also, you need to figure out why your tree is struggling to do what it would do naturally under the right conditions. I have no clay at all in my soil so over watering my tree is virtually impossible with the ultra porous decomposed granite my tree is planted in. Also, DG is highly mineralized so I don't need any other nutrients for my tree to thrive... Just good ole water, every day throughout the summer, 3 times a week throughout the spring & fall & once or twice a week in the winters of So Cal. There are 3 primary signs of dehydration in avocado trees... 1. Brown (burnt) leave tips 2. Sunburnt branches 3. Waxy looking fruit that eventually falls off the tree instead of shiny fruit. If you have any one or all of these signs you already know what to do. Read your tree & act accordingly.

Hello Dan I must say while ur watering schedule might work for your specific situation.. You didn't listen to the entire video did you? I have mentioned repeatedly about the porous soil, DG & So Cal dirt in all my videos. I've even mentioned how clay or non-porous soils are an exception to this rule. And, what I said about ripening to black was not referring to ripening on the tree but rather ripening on the shelf, which both of my Pinkertons do... Sometimes they even acquire dark spots while still on the tree & that's how I know it's time to start picking them. Both my Pinkerton Nursery tree has fruit that turns black or acquires dark spots on the shelf when it ripens & my other Pinkerton type does as well. So you're telling me that my Pinkerton that I bought from the nursery was labelled wrong because it has fruit that acquires dark (black) spots on it when it ripens? Thanks for the criticism but it seems the least you could do before raking me over the coals is to ask me what I meant by this or that, instead of only listening to half of what I said & then going on about how wrong I am. If I somehow neglected to mention the soil issue at all in this video I deeply apologize, because it is not the norm for me & you will find this to be the case if you visit my other vids. Thanks for watching anyway. I little constructive criticism never hurt anyone. Have a nice weekend.

Duster Dan ACTUALLY yes IF ur "Pinkerton" turn black it is a Misslabel tree. which is a very common thing.. However most of the coast and inland is Clay or sandy clay..

Duster Dan Well I listen to the ENTIRE video and U did mention the fact that U have decomposed granite and u have good drainage (porous soil) BUT definetinely in THIS video u didn't mention how clay or other soils are the exception to the rule... I am NOT trying to rake you over I AM however only trying to help you, which I think is the same thing you are trying to do with other people.. I noticed something in the video while u do not focus to much on one single fruit for a while I did noticed that atleast on of the fruit on ur nursery bought tree it has a particular ridge down the middle of the fruit?? If all the fruit from that tree has this? then u quite possibly have a Sir Prize tree which would explain the change in color when ripe. Sir prize is an excellent Avocado is also a B type so it would compliment ur "Pinkerton type which would most likely is an A type" anyways do the avocados from the nursery bought tree oxidize after being cut? (the flesh turn a greyish brownish color) if it does not in the fridge after 2 days then U definetinely have a sir prize on ur hands since it is the only commercially sold avocado that won't oxidize after being cut open..

If your avocados are dropping before maturing then you need to knock a couple of clean steel nails into the trunk. The three will absorb the iron and they will stop dropping. Do not go overboard with the nails, about 2 to 5 nails depending on size. Also get a tonne of manure mulched in under the tree.

@MrThedocholiday 4 жыл бұрын
Blinky Bill the first few years most avocado trees drop their blossoms until the tree reaches full maturity. By the third year of flowering you should begin to see a minimum crop of fruit & by the fourth or fifth year of flowering you should get a normal crop. Also, occasionally you’ll see all the flowers drop after the tree reaches full maturity but usually the very next year you’ll have another full crop of fruit. One critical note... If you’re fertilizing your avocado tree you MUST water it much more than you would if not fertilizing it. An unnaturally occurring amount of nutrients will burn up your tree without proper hydration, & avocado trees are far better at pulling nutrients from the soil than they are at staying hydrated, because these are tropical trees for the most part. In the tropics where these trees are from it is typically humid & there is naturally rich arid volcanic soil. So obviously you need good drainage as well if watering more.

@MrThedocholiday 5 жыл бұрын
Tracy Young There are probably many who will read this who are considered experts on this matter compared to myself, but I’ve always had best results with decomposed granite (DG) & tons of water for my trees. DG has all kinds of natural minerals & nutrients & has fantastic drainage properties. For that reason if you simply add a little mulch & water them well you should be okay. The primary problem with potted avocado trees is the roots get much warmer & dryer than most trees can handle without wilting or even dying. In a pot you will have to water probably twice as often as you would in the ground under the same conditions because the ground is much cooler than a pot if all other things are the same. Avocado trees already typically struggle with dehydration in hotter climates like yours so keeping them hydrated in pots is going to be real difficult. So the more often you can hydrate them while allowing them decent drainage, the better chance they stand to survive the hot weather in your zone. Avocado trees don’t struggle with basic soil nutrient extraction. They struggle with hydration. And learning the difference between dehydration & lack of nutrients is key to cultivating healthy trees. Does that make sense? A little editing just for readability...
@TheElsinoreGardener
@TheElsinoreGardener 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Tracy, Dan is right, if you want to pot your avocados, use more minerals like DG and even add some sand. Keep the worn castings in the upper levels of the pot and mulch too. You can then water them and never have to worry about root rot. The worm castings will work its way down into the lower levels of the pot with the watering. Check my videos on planting avocados and seeds I started. Thanks

First you have to understand that avocado trees have a very high metabolic rate. They drink water & use nutrients from the soil through the water that they pull up from the soil. Whenever you transplant an avocado tree you disturb the flow of water & nutrients which the tree is pulling up from the soil, no matter if you cut or disturb the roots or not. Because of its high rate metabolism you run the risk of killing your tree anytime you transplant it. And restoring its vigor will require time for it to gain back the water consumption from the soil which it lost during transplant. The only way I know to give it the best chance to recover is to ease off on the nutrients for a time & triple the water supply. It’s still no guarantee that it will recover from being transplanted but at least you provide sufficient water for it to drink when it tries to recover. Best time to transplant is in winter for this very reason.
@CerulianSins
@CerulianSins 5 жыл бұрын

CerulianSins avocado trees drop there leaves as long as there being replaced your fine. They also drop there leaves when there under watered these trees drink water and a lot of it especially during hot weather and low humidity in hot or cold weather. I’ve found my trees need a lot of water when humidity gets down in the single digits. For gnats try taking your left over coffee or half cup coffee add squirt dawn dish soap spray with water to foam or stir it to foam up well, place the cup with good amount of foam it’s what kills them where you have the problem they can’t resist it and within a couple days will all be gone. Make sure to keep the foam on top. I just had a huge out break and they were gone in about 2-3 days. You can place a couple out if you have them bad. Cheers please share the tips if you find success. how often do u fertilize and what find
@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 6 жыл бұрын
Roy Davis I don’t fertilize at all. There are enough nutrients in most ground soils for any avocado tree to thrive. They key is giving them enough water, not more nutrients. Adding fertilizer will simply burn them up without enough water. And obviously, the key to not over watering is good drainage, not watering less. Watering less will burn them up also, because without abundant water supply any nutrients these trees get from you or the natural soil will burn the tree up because it can’t metabolize the nutrients without abundant water. Water is the key... And good drainage is the key to avoiding root rot. It’s that simple.

While it is more likely to get fruit sooner from a grafted nursery born tree, it is not true that you will not get fruit from a seed born tree. As I have said many times in my avocado tree videos, my 20' tall avocado tree was grown from a pit. At 4 years old it bloomed for the first time & at 5 years old it bore fifty avocados for the first time. Last year at 8 years old my pit grown avocado tree bore over 440 avocados of tremendous size & flavor, some fruit approaching nearly one pound each! The secret to my flourishing avocado trees is water - lots of water & good drainage! Did I mention the water? If there are several things I've learned over the years about avocado trees, it's that they love water, they are more prone to dehydration than they are to root rot, they can bear excellent fruit when grown from a pit if they get enough water, they don't need all the fertilizer that so-called experts claim, they just need lots of water to metabolize the nutrients that are already in most soils, they DO require good drainage, they don't need white paint on the tender branches to protect them from the God given sunlight - again they just need lots of water to keep the tender branches hydrated, more people kill their avocado trees from underwatering according to so-called expert advise than any other problem & people around the world love the heavenly delicious green fruit of the wonderful avocado tree! Disclaimer... I don't claim t be an expert for obvious reasons... Mainly, because most experts are windbags full of hot air... although some exceptions to this do occur.

Plutonium yes... Shade them from full sun when they are young & water them well to hydrate them. Shading them from full sun when they are young is natural, like they would be as seedlings surrounded by other more mature trees & watering them well helps them metabolize the nutrients better & protect their tender foliage through hydration instead of by man's more synthetic means. It drops just below freezing for about a week where I live during the winter. Mature trees like this large one can endure mild frosts just below freezing without suffering foliage damage but the younger trees need protection from freezing temperatures or they will go into shock & fail to blossom in early spring. I ended up with over five hundred fruit from these two trees last year so my amateur advice has been spot on for years now. My only advice is super basic... protect young trees from from frost by covering them when it’s cold. Plant your trees in the ground & water the heck out of them any time the wind, heat or soil even has the potential to dehydrate them & make sure they have good drainage. Dismiss all other so-called expert advice if you’re smart. I am not joking... Most so-called expert advice for these trees is hogwash & only leads to more frustration & expense. Hi Where do you get your DG for your trees? I live in Corona, perhaps I can get some from where you get it.
@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 5 жыл бұрын
MrCarlosdelgado DG is the primary topsoil there in Riverside. It should be throughout Corona as well. DG is the fine granulated decomposed granite that has washed down into the valleys below all the local Southern California mountain ranges - including the Ortegas above Corona & the Santa Anna river basin. Your trees should be good to go as long as they’re in the ground & get plenty of water. If there is any problem with tree health in Corona, I would assume that it’s a hydration problem first, before anything else. And for anyone else reading this response like the Root-Rot police or the Over-Watering police, I lived in Riverside county 48 years & know the soil weather temps there very well; which is how I finally got my trees to thrive like this, not by following generic so-called professional avocado tree expert advice. Prior to my watering discoveries, I killed multiple avocado trees by following so-called expert advice, until I finally decided to break rank & figure out the truth about these trees. Sorry I had to throw in that disclaimer but you can’t even imagine how many critics will come onto my channel & argue their point & shame me whenever I try to help others with my own personal experience with avocado trees. They don’t even care about the results in my video when it’s staring them in the face, & honestly, I’m tired of getting bashed by them & constantly getting bad advice from them when I haven’t asked for it. So please forgive my long answer. There are lots of water-police out there that can’t imagine another way to care for these trees than their failed advice.

Juan Munoz surprisingly excellent! There is a small skin around the tip if the pit in the fruit of the larger tree that needs removed before consumption but besides that they are fantastic tasting fruit weighing about 3/4lb when ripe.

GOLDEN STATE RAIDERS fertilizer is often far more destructive than not. Unless the watering is increased to help a tree metabolize the nutrients from the fertilizer. It's that simple...

Why are you losing them
@MrThedocholiday
@MrThedocholiday 6 жыл бұрын
Julia Dawnyel because the tree cannot support all the fruit. It’s not a very large tree. The trunk is only about 6” around & can only support so many fruit, so the tree drops fruit naturally. Also, high winds often blow fruit off or rip branches off. Between these two trees I had over 500 fruit brought to harvest last year with my watering methods alone. These trees drop fruit for various reasons. The key is to give your tree the least reasons to drop fruit possible. If they simply cannot support all the fruit that develops after blossoming, then that is the best scenario, because they’re holding as many as the tree can possibly support in one season.

I see your reply to Smokeydabee Charles Coleman comment as to where are your trees located, so your in Riverside? So am I, I'd love to come see your trees and learn more...or have you come see mine and give me any advice you have.

weston brown sorry Weston, I'm no longer in So Cal. But I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. I grew avocado trees for over ten years in so cal - most of which I accidentally killed for the first couple years. Learning from mistakes is often the best teacher but oh, can it be painful during the process.

To be an effective videographer, you should tell us where this was taken, what is the scientific name of this plant, what kind of soil it thrives at, how to plant and care for it, and lastly how to eat this fruit.

Your tree will simply be uprooted in strong winds when they come along. If you overwater avocado trees you end up with shallow roots and wilting leaves, never water an avocado tree more than twice a week in summer and use mulch to stop evaporation. You only water avocado trees more than twice a week when they are less than 4 years old and in exceptionally hot weather
