As a Spaniard born in Barcelona let me share some tips with you: -1. Don't eat nor drink anything at the RAMBLAS or near SAGRADA FAMILIA. We citizens know that quality-prices in these areas can be almost considered a scam. Avoid that zones if you really want to taste local food. -2. We spanish don't drink as much "sangria" as you think. Try "tinto de verano" instead which is closer to our habits. -3. Please, please, please, keep your belongins safe. No need to get obsessed with it but always be cautious. -4. For whatever visit to city landmarks you should previously check official websites.

Be careful when traveling in Barcelona. My wife had her cell phone stolen while entering the Parallel metro station. The gate suddenly refuse to open with the metro card then someone bumped into her and reach into her coat pocket to take the device. If something unexpected happens you can bet someone is looking to distract you to steal your stuff.

Good video and tips. We visited in August 2002 and stayed in the Hotel Continental on Ramblas, booked 7 nights. Around the corner from the metro at Placa Catalunya. The hotel was B&B and they also had a tea/coffee area with biscuits all day long. The room had a small balcony with table and 2 chairs. Across ramblas from the hotel was a Supermecado where we sourced most of our evening meals. We planned the trip using a Spain Travel book. Listed everything we wanted to see, marked on maps. We walked, and walked and walked. And ticked off the list. The only time we used public transport was the bus to Gaudi Park and the train to Montserrat. Walking ensured that we saw far more interesting buildings and churches and some dicey areas. Eating out whether a meal or just tapas get away from the tourist areas and look where the locals eat and drink. Beware of the paella 'specials', not worth the money. I kept a book where I recorded what we saw each day and the other side of the book what we spent each day. Back home recorded it all in an Excel. August is summer, holiday season in Europe, daily temps were 35c starting at 29c. Drink lots of fluids.

I'm not european so i couldnt seem to get online app deals (better prices) . sigh. I did not go to Sagrada F, luckily didnt buy ticket as i got sick on the 3rd day. Downtown areas near medieval quarter and the areas just northwest of that was quite stinky in terms of car pollution, same with areas of Granada. We'll be visiting Barcelona a total of 9 days in September. We're splitting it up a bit by spending the first 7 nights there, then 4 nights in Marseille, then back to Barcelona for the final 2 days. We plan on two day tours, one that covers the Dali museum, the other that goes to Andorra. To say we're super psyched would be an understatement.
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Жыл бұрын
Hi there. In our opinion, a day trip to Andorra makes no sense at all. You will spend more time on the road that in Andorra and then, in Andorra itself, where will you go? You need four or five days to explore reasonably well the country. See other excellent (and more suitable) day trips from Barcelona here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGe7cpuEjbeEY9k

@@clubmogambo3214 Well, a day trip to Andorra is not a catastrophyc desicion. The capital is not a big monumental city, but it worths a visit and a walk for a few hours. Just keep in mind that it is at least 3 hours far, and also that you will see the mountains around you but you wont be able to hiking, or visiting the famous spa, or any other cultural visit. For us is a "weekend destination". Ah, and don't walk only in the main avenue of shops, the old town is not spectacular but still have some nice spot, like Casa de la Vall.

Hi Arnaum and Ben, in the vast majority of cases, if you can't find a bus or train ticket for a date a few months ahead, it's because it hasn't been introduced in the system yet. To make sure, check a date before or after your intended date of travel - if you can't find tickets for those dates either, that's because they are not being sold yet. We wouldn't use BlaBlaCar unless you had previous experience of how the system works. We love Australia indeed and hopefully will be back soon! All the best to you!

Hi Ashley, first of all, if you enter the Sagrada Familia at 2 pm, you might not have much time of the Hospital de Sant Pau, check the closing times. Four major attractions in one day would be quite an intense (and probably exhausting) day. You can visit La Pedrera (Casa Mila) any time you prefer. It is quieter first thing in the morning and after lunch time.

Hi again Tony! I am revisiting many of your videos to refresh my memory from when I first watched them. Our trip is coming soon now and I have another question for you. We have booked the Sagrada Familia without the towers and was wondering how much time to allow, generally, before we should book the Park Guell and the best way to get there. I was going to forgo going to PG but really want to see it. I also remember that there was a better entrance so you don't have to walk up hill, so can you let me know which entrance please? Thank you in advance for your valuable knowledge!
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Жыл бұрын
Hi again, Barbara. Dedicate between two and three hours to the Sagrada Familia. There is no quick connection to Park Güell, there will always be some climb involved. You could take a taxi, it's a short ride and will leave you at the entrance.

Hello, I really appreciated this video! We are coming to Spain soon on a tour. We will have a few days in Barcelona at the end. One of those days will be a Sunday. Is the Hospital se Sant Pau open to see on a Sunday. I was also thinking with the really hot weather going to a beach would be nice as well. Can you recommend a beach that is not too touristic, a bit quieter, withy nice sandy beach. That also has places for eating near by. We are looking for relaxation not party vibe. Thanks!
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Жыл бұрын
Hello Lisa, the hospital is opened on Sundays indeed. All beaches in Barcelona are touristic and busy, specially on hot days. You should try the ones furthest away from the centre, such as Mar Bella and Llevant. We wouldn't spend a minute on Barcelona beaches as we feel there are a million other more interesting places to visit in the the city, but then that's our personal preference.

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thanks you for your reply! The Sunday that was asking you about, will be at the end of a 15 day tour of Spain and Portugal, we were looking to have maybe a rest day before we leave for France . depending on the weather it may be way to hot to sit on the beach, do you have any suggestions for indoor places to stay cool some museums that would be open on a Sunday.
