The airline services only treated clients badly because of the poor wages and what they think of their workers. So of course what you think of them is bias but the way you complained and not support the people the carry you from point A - Z will leave workers of all walks of life not give a shit enough.

As an Executive Platinum and Million Mile member of AA... I AM TOTALLY WITH YOU! I am strongly considering switching to United. No hot meals domestically, terrible service, broken equipment, and dirty tray tables are the norm. Why should I continue to give them so much money and loyalty for sub par service? Yes, the lounges are a disgrace to air travel. If you think all of that is frustrating, try being their "most valued customer" and when you call the "Executive Platinum Desk" you get a computer, and an avg 35min hold time. It's really sad! I don't feel it pays to be loyal to a carrier anymore. Just buy 1st class with whatever airline offers best rates, schedule, and service.

I flew a roundtrip flight on United from BUR to PVD a few years back, and out of the 6 flights, 5 of them were delayed.....one of which I missed my connection and had to scramble to find another flight. This is just sad. I flew to Hawaii in first-class back when Continental was still flying - a direct flight from Houston to Honolulu. The first-class service was freaking impeccable. Over the eight hour flight, it felt like we were served at least five different meals - my favorite memory was when the flight attendant came by about an hour before landing, offering everyone a burger (this after a three-course steak/lobster meal with wine had been served just a few hours earlier!). You certainly should expect more for a $1200 ticket, even with COVID restrictions.

About 5 years ago I took my family to Hawaii from st.Louis. I ordered my tickets almost 10 months ahead of time and had picked out our seats so we could all sit together and were on one of American Airlines newest planes. Two weeks before the trip American Airlines notifies us that the plane we are suppose to be on is being replaced with the oldest plane in their fleet that didn’t even have WI-FI and if that wasn’t bad enough they separated my family on the plane but they conveniently would put us back to our original seats for an additional $50.00 per seat which I was robbed of because my kids had never flown before and I wanted them near me anyway. So if this was bad enough, I later got food poisoning from a sandwich that was served to me on the plane because none of my other family members ate any of the food except me and about 15-30 minutes after eating the sandwich I started going at both ends and was sick for two days of my trip to Hawaii. Thanks American for a memorable trip I’ve told as many people as I possible can about the way you robbed me and my family with our airline tickets.

Just this past July I was booked to fly with AA to my family reunion (it’s expected that would be the final reunion many family members would be able to attend) so it was important to me to be there. I was to fly from Dallas to Atlanta for literally 3 days, only one of them the actual reunion. After spending 10 hours at DFW while the flight was delayed, they decided to cancel. They refused to refund us and we’re absolutely no help finding us another flight there. They told us to “wait in that line to see what can be done” referring to a line probably a mile long full of other AA flyers screwed by whatever happened. In order to make my reunion, I had to load me, my wife and 1.5 year old up and drive to Shreveport LA where we arrived at like 2 am, because it was the closest place with flights leaving to ATL that soon. I spent probably $1500 because it was so last second, and still to this day was never refunded my cancelled flight with AA. I’ve had better Spirit experiences, and will NEVER fly AA again.

Hey, fun fact. Your airline has to provide you a refund, in accordance with the delay that you have received.
@rakuranhawke86002 жыл бұрын
At least according to my countries rights under the CGA, airlines cannot: - Rely on terms and conditions - sometimes called Conditions of carriage - printed only on the ticket, unless you were given a reasonable chance to read them before you bought it - Avoid compensating you for cancelled or delayed flights that were their fault, even if their terms and conditions say they can.
@noahhenderson31642 жыл бұрын
Literally in America you can't promise someone a product then cancel it and not give them the money. That's just theft Doesn't matter how much money their lawyers have. It's open and shut Reminder. Terms and conditions are only defended legally if they're reasonable. Reasonable such as not refunding if delayed for a few hours. Not reasonable as in you won't get your money and won't get a flight
@cobaltblue19752 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they were supposed to offer you a refund. Services weren't rendered and they had no alternative to offer you. They can't just keep your money. If they think that's how it works, then the sword cuts both ways and we should be disputing credit card charges as soon as the plane lands. I do however understand being worn down by a situation and not wanting to be bothered with it anymore. On the bright side, after reading your story I suspect it will cost them far more than that plane ticket in lost future sales. Bad word of mouth is an expensive thing to a business.

Really annoys me when I see AA drop the ball SO BADLY! As someone who lives in the DFW area, I used to fly AA ALL the time for work and personal trips. Gaining status in the AAdvantage program to Platinum one year. Sadly...AA hasn't lived up to their past over the last 15 years at least. I only fly them when I absolutely have to now, and of course I know many people who work at AA...so it hurts more to not help them get paid. That said, I'm not donating my money...they gotta earn it...and they just haven't. Your experience continues to show I'm right by flying Alaska, JetBlue or even Southwest over AA. Seems to me it would be easy, refurbish everything, revamp everything, make it work, make sure the money being paid goes to the people providing the service...in other words, stop being cheap but charging $$$$ prices. I'm not popular at AA functions. Haha, and try to not bring it up with friends who work there. What's with the backwards seat and getting impacted by someone else moving their seat? WOW. Great review as always!

I am not sure what you mean by drop the ball... AA is always like this! I fly frequently for work and don't understand why AA still have corporate customers given the constant delays and cancellations, and non-existence customer service. Thank you for a very informative and eye opening report!! I’ll definitely heed your advice on my next trip to Hawaii. To me, seeing what AA has become really makes me sad. Long ago, AA was part of “my family”. My mother was crowned, “Miss American Airlines 1955”. Back then, service was EVERYTHING, and the customer experience was the “Holy Grail” of flying. From mechanic to pilot to FA, NOTHING was spared to ensure the very best experience. AA was the “Gold Standard” of America based flight travel. We felt that not only did we represent and lead the world in the airline industry, but in many ways, we represented the very best of America itself. My mother was so very proud of her title and her history with AA. However, if she were still alive today, she would be absolutely sick to see what AA has become and their terrible and inexcusable behavior over the last several years. It would utterly break her heart!! Today, AA often represent the very WORST of America. Indeed, the stories, testimonies, and videos that constantly surface about AA and how they treat their customers is truly stunning and outright embarrassing. On behalf of what AA USED to be many years ago, I am so sorry for your experience. I’d give almost anything to see AA turn around and restore their old values again. Instead of being near last in customer satisfaction, they could become #1 again with a lot of effort. But sadly, in today’s terrible world, I see that as unlikely.

Based on this video, AA first class sounds more like business class seats with economy class service, it’s just crap
@stanleyhung61512 жыл бұрын
this one i can answer. the most plausible reason for the unannounced cancellation is due to the incompletion of the minimum crew rest time regulated by the FAA. according to their rules EVERY pilot across the US should get at least 10 hours of rest time and a 8-hour continuous, undisturbed sleep. the pilots on your flight may have experienced a significant delay (i'm talking about 4-5 hours of delay, even more) on the flight prior to yours and if your flight isn't one that takes off from DFW, LAX, JFK or any other major AA hubs, there might not be any reserve pilots on scene available to take over, resulting in the (typical) delay of your flight (but it's reasonable for the airline to just cancel the entire thing if the delay is too long the cost for the delay it eats out the revenue). EDIT: spelling

Chris.raduly this is flagship Business not first class. American offer First Class service on International 77W and Transcontinental Scarebus 321T's. You are right that Most Domestic First Class would be called good Business Class in Europe whilst the majority of European Business Class on British Airways and many European Carriers would be called Coach in America.

Great video, I like your delivery however I will say it's unfair to blame covid on this lack of service and attention to detail because AA was this terrible well before the first hint of a fever or cough ever headed our way. Their first class domestic service has always been more miss than hit and the lack of attention from the FA's is quite standard, they just think it is beneath them to provide anywhere near the level of first class service that the foreign carriers provide. Yea, stick with Hawaiian on this route and I will go ahead and give you a heads up, avoid Delta on this route as well it's exactly the same. 😉

The one time I flew on AA to Hawaii (the only time I went to Hawaii, actually) was in March of 2002. I flew LGA-STL-OGG, the STL-OGG route was serviced by an ex-TWA 767 (either a 767-3Q8ER, or 767-330ER) still with full TWA interior inside, and TWA's final livery on the outside, and man, for what it was, I loved it. Big comfy seats with leg and foot rests, and TVs that popped out of the middle console with mini VHS players in them (Wish I had brought a copy of HOME ALONe I had on a mini VHS as a little kid haha). Even now, I'm still not used to the fact that when the person in front of me had their seat up, I could stand in front of my seat even with the leg/footrests extended. Though the flight did for some reason start even testing my tolerance for being in a tube stationary for long periods of time (then again, I was undiagnosed, and unmedicated ADHD at the time) - it originally was to be a 9 1/2 hour flight or so, ended up being close to 11 hours due to strong headwinds.

AA's service has dropped to a level that they should be ashamed of. I travel to Asia every year and experience different carriers of various levels and even the budget carriers have exceeded AA's level of service. I fear covid has just been an excuse for them to offer less to the customer and make the trip more like a journey in a cattle trailer. I would have to say, even Spirit offered a better product than AA does today.

Just watched this. Trek Trendy, you're correct. American Flagged Carriers have Zero Idea of the concept of First Class. First Class here is an extra large bag of crisps instead of the standard one. Meals for the last 25 years have been precooked, served in foil wrapped containers in first class. As Americans, this is exceedingly special, as even bags of peanuts aren't available on most US Carriers. They've literally 'dumbed us down' over the years to just expect a shite product and be happy. To be fair....European Carriers who's legs begin in the US have continued this cheap assed tradition, (I'm looking at you British Airways), as they can cut costs, and know damn well they can't get away with it in Europe. Anyway, I'm subscribed for about 4 months now, I like everything, and have to say, you are the single MOST EFFECTIVE voice on KZbin in being able to judge actual product quality. So much Love to you Trek Trendy ! Come see us in Santa Cruz California sometime!

I flew AA FC to HNL a few times pre Covid, once out of Dallas (used to live there) and once out of Chicago, I believe both were on the DC-10, which was back in the 90s. The FC product, while not having lay flat seats back then we’re roomy and the service was very good. On our Dallas flight we had an 8 hour mechanical delay and let me tell you, AA does not know how to handle their premium passengers when there is an extensive delay. Sadly I bound this out flying business class from Dallas to London just six months later when we had another mechanical delay lasting 4 hours. While I did make the last flight the Maui on my Hawaii trip, luckily I was staying in London for a few days before flying onto Manchester that trip. Lounge access is only granted to premium customers on international long haul flights in the US. I’ve read AA has restored pre Covid service but your service was pitiful to say the least, especially for FC. What a shame.

First class on smaller domestic flights (which depends entirely on the aircraft, not the destination) is indeed just wider seats. Most countries just refer to this as Business Class, but we don’t make that distinction.

Great review Will! I believe you make an eloquent case for AA (and other North American carriers) dropping the "First Class" label to this kind of product! Perhaps they should just stick with business class (when they have lie-flat seats) or maybe even just Premium Economy, especially when you consider the lack of lounge access and subpar food... P.S. Are the spelling mistakes in there just to wind up the grammar police? 😂

I flew "first class" on AA in October 2021 from Denver to Miami as the first keg of my trip to Peru. The flight left Denver some time around 1 am, yes, 1 am, arriving about 4 hours later in Miami, I think about 7 am, ET. I didn't even have a blanket and pillow! None on board. I used my pashmina and jacket to make myself comfortable. The seats were standard "first class" seats, even though I initially understood I'd have the convertible version. Change of equipment! Ironically, on the flight to Peru from Miami, a day time flight, I had all of the blankets and pillows I wanted since no one was sitting next to me, so I had two packages containing pillows and blankets. I did take advantage of the AA Club in Miami, which did offer a nice, relaxing place between flights and some food/beverages, but I can't tell what they were since I don't remember.

I was also denied business lounge in Miami even though I was flying first internationally with a 13 months old baby. And the plane was 3 hours late 😡. Plus the service and food were completely substandard compare to other airlines I fly. My daughter threw up the sandwich they gave her. Never will I fly an American Airlines again. I live in Turkey so compare to Turkish airlines (and Qatar Airways) they are complete rubbish.

Coach is like a flying bus with everyone battling for overhead space on any airline but I noticed what you found which is that some airlines are watering down 1st class to the point that you don't get treated super well. I would think first class would come with pampering but not so much anymore. One first class seat I had saw coach customers going back and forth using the first class rest rooms and making it hard to sleep. Bottom line: good job with this honest review of first class as it ain't what it used to be. And don't think the airlines don't know coach is filled with upgrades and virtually no one paying for it. Do you think for a second that first class filled with freeloaders is draw top notch service? Not a chance. You're lucky to get a drink before you take off, extra leg room and if super lucky a meal.

I have been an AAdvantage member for over 30 years and I must regrettably concur with your embarrassingly poor assessment of AA's First/Business class service. To be fair, premium / business class service as deteriorated at ALL the remaining national domestic air carriers since the early 90s. Due to COVID I have only flown 5 times in the past year; twice on Delta and three times on AA. These flights lasted on average 4.5 - 5.0 hours and were within the domestic U.S.

I flew American from MDT to DFW (Airbus 319) and then DFW to LAS (Airbus 321) in April '22, the week after they removed the mask mandate. I had no problems with the quality of the Business class provided. I actually liked the Airbus 319 better because there were only 8 total Business class seats. The service was top notice, the FAs were topping my drinks off every 30 mins or so, the meals were also surprisingly tasty and light, I even tipped my FA $20 on the Airbus 319 when I got off the plane because I enjoyed the service so much.
