AVOID BACKLASH - SHIMANO TORIUM 30 | DIY MAGNETIC BRAKES
I am not an expert, so follow this DIY at your own risk.
I magged both my brand new shimano toriums with 0.9kg magnets and got some amazing results, now both reels don't backlash and are able to cast worry free, but also reach some amazing distances, even on lighter weights.
There are services and professionals that do this better - so if and when you can, go to them to get a reel that you can take to competitions. I have a Torium 30 HG It really does not need to be slowed down. On a 12 ft Diawa Beefstick Surf Rod I routinely throw it 170 to 200 yards without backlash using a 6 to 12 oz lead plus a 5 or 6 inch mullet. Of course you have to practice your cast and use good technique to achieve this.

​​@@kapenatom3816I paired my torium 30hg with a 12 big water (extra hvy) ugly stik & can toss 8oz lead around 80-90yrds pretty easily and that's no mods done to the reel at all ,just gotta adjust the arbor is all

I would also like to add that this set up is a beast. I have reeled in numerous 40 inch plus Redfish and Black Drum. It also brought in a 7 ft Bull Shark and a monster Stingray over 5 ft around. I recommend it highly

Of course a light thumb on the spool is the best brake of all but magging a spool can make it almost fool proof. I've magged most of mine over the years as I often have wet hands. That's not too bad with monofilament but on braid it can cause the odd bird nest when throwing for distance.

Knobby mag is much better…! With your static mag... You have to take apart your reel to adjust it.… go with a knobby.!!!!!

It's easy to say go with this and go with that if you can actually get that done because someone does it where you're at...try saying that if you live in a part of the world that doesn't have someone who does it properly...then the prospect of a static mag becomes really good. Guess what...it's exactly why I have a static mag instead of a knobby.
