Poor Louis, you can see he has no touch or feel for this exacting work but he is so enthusiastic you just want him to succeed. No point in Phil doing it as he already knows exactly what to do. Marcus has great patience. A very interesting series of videos in my opinion.

Um, what is new about this? This is how a majority of manufacturers install frets. In fact unless you’re Gibson you have to remove or undercut the tangs on a bound fretboard, this doesn’t prevent fret sprout 100% as the fretboard can still shrink and the fret ends pop out the sides. This process is in no way unique to Framus. That isn’t to take away from their construction quality, but it is standard practice in the industry.

Nmn Mnm World Musical instruments is one which is I believe the largest guitar builder in the world they make guitars for brands such as PRS SE, Chapman, Schecter, and ESP LTD. As I said above if the neck has binding it essentially has to be done this way as the fret slots are not cut into the binding. The exception is Gibson USA that runs the fret up to the binding and then trims and forms the binding such that it becomes the end off the fret, or nib. Lots of videos on this process on YT. I’m sure TTK wasn’t aware of this, and thought perhaps it was a novel approach, but it is common industry practices, and should not imho be considered unique to Framus. Also of note, that I didn’t see is them use isocyanate (super glue), or epoxy to glue and retain the frets. This is another very common practice in fretting. The outlier in this is Fender which has often used their own practice of leaving the fret and tang long, seating it or pressing it down then tapping it sideways which drives the little barbs on the fret tang into the wood at an opposite angle to they way they were pressed in, preventing them from just pulling straight back up the way the went in. They then file the ends down flush with the fretboard

I didn't think Gibson etc didn't cut their fret slots full width. This isnt a bound neck, the fret slots do not go the full width of the neck so There is some wood holding the fret ends not plastic.

Lucky Dog Guitars does that by hand on his builds. He’s the guy Fender went after. Fender channel bound necks end up with no tangs. I wonder if Framus ever tried channel bound necks.
