How to prevent rain water or snow melt leaking under your flat pack metal shed.
This is a cheap and quick tip to consider implementing before building your shed.
Even with a perfectly flat, non-porous based ground, water is still able to penetrate under the shed baseplate causing water pooling, rot and condensation. Your stored items will be damaged and and shed base will not last very long.
This is a 10x8 Yardmaster shed.
Apologies for the audio interference.
Visqueen membrane is very cheap and purchased from FastBuild Supplies. www.fastbuildsupplies.co.uk/b...

We've just put up a new metal shed and have done exactly as your video shows. It's worked a treat and is so much better than the silicone I used on a previously built shed. Thank you for a great tip !

I built my shed then found that even with silicon it was still leaking. So how do I get the DPM underneath the metal base, I purchased some very thin wedges and tapped them underneath two sides near the side that I wanted to slide the membrane under then I worked around each side until complete so that I did not have to re-build then just as you have done to finish off, now I have a perfectly dry shed and base. Well done Matt for showing this.

Hi sorry to ask you about an old video but I’ve only just found it! The way you have the sheeting turned upwards inside the shed does that mean that the water still gets in but is channeled away to the corners.I have one of these sheds and the water just floods in underneath so I’m thinking of giving your idea a try 👍
@tubulationjim

Thank you - I tried to copy you and ended up with a damp patch. This was because after having done the job, instead of securing the shed as you did, from inside, like a moron I put screws into the frame outside making 8 tiny holes. With standing water over the screw (and the screw not on the Visquine because the screw is holding down the metal sheet bent frame bars) the water just seeped slowly in. I'm now lifting the shed and starting again. How did you get your corners so neat? Could you outline the process for those of us that don't think quite so clearly on construction? (lift up with 4 blocks, place 2 runs, put blocks on runs, place other two, clout nail on vertical surface only, drop shed down, put uplifts in place as near to edge as you can, pushing into the corners?)

BTDT. The plastic repels moisture, yeah. But it also traps moisture and over time you may find osb soft spots due to water damage. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news. Cheers.

Would polyurethane work better ? As it will also glue the shed to concrete or any flooring material also would stop leakages, probably best applied by jacking the shed, and sets quick so must be fast

Seeing yours in situ really emphasises just how beneficial a step this is, and for the inexpensive cost it's essential. Silicon worked fine for me when sealing the base. The main issue was rain running down the doors and into the door slide channel. This leads the water inside the shed. You need to add some drainage channels.
@mtthgn
@mtthgn 5 жыл бұрын
Nope, the plastic membrane addresses that too. No need for additional drainage measures.
