Atascadero California is where I was raised. I grew up on Lanta Lucia on a ranch my grandparents built. They owned Atascadero Market. Wish I could move back ! I left when I was 17 to Alaska and am so ready to come back home.

I moved to Atascadero from the central San Joaquin valley almost 3 years ago. You ladies pretty much hit on every aspect I love about living in this town. Small town community, lots of rural woods, hiking trails and wildlife. I often see deer in my neighborhood. I could do without bumping into 3 or 4 people I know at the grocery store, but it gives me reason not to go anywhere in my PJs. It's very conservative, we do love our country, veterans, first responders and our guns. It's unfortunate we do deal with homeless but California has 30% of the nations bums and has twice as many than the state next in line. The only complaint I have is the constant power outages, seems like it's nearly a weekly issue. Other than that this is a wonderful, welcoming place to live. Within a year I made so many friends. We don't have a "night life" cuz we party during the day. In this area there's never a lack outdoor events. Tamale festival, brewfests, wineries, outdoor music, Fallfest, car shows, movies in the park. There is literally something to do every weekend.

I left atascadero 9 months ago and missed it so much im moving back in a few weeks! Not looking firward to the heat, but there are plenty of places to cool down.

Atascadero is my hometown and I’m 15 years old. I’ve always wanted to move far far away from my somewhat boring life to find fulfillment somewhere else. Then again recently I’ve been noticing just ever so slightly how beautiful the town really is. Just driving past the oak trees and rolling hills it makes me feel sad about wanting to leave. I’m getting in a predicament of wanting to stay in this fairytale like town where nothing bad happens but also just nothing happens and it gets boring. Then the option move somewhere more lively. So if anyone could give me some insight on if I should leave for a better life or stay here and try to make Atascadero my dream town even though I might be able to find something better.

I say leave and you can come back. It will make you a better person and most will say that. I grew up in Paso. I didn’t particularly feel like I belonged. I left to Los Angeles and Las Vegas and came back. I do regret coming back. I ran into people from my past who have tried to wreak havoc unfortunately. I find people a little too sensitive here and I absolutely do not like running into others at the store. I live in Paso and it has not been friendly to me coming home. That’s not everyone. I understand many people love it and that’s ok. But for me, I’ve regressed and it’s challenging. This is just my side. Many others will have a different perspective too. Hope that helps!

It's okay to feel like you want to leave, the rest of the world can be just as wonderful as your hometown. Go away for school and live a fast paced city life. You're young go out and live, find out what makes you happy. But remember you are who you are because you grew up in Atascadero, you can always come Home.

Yeah I need a Walgreens across from a cvs and a McDonald’s atleast every three blocks, so yeah. Also I need a few areas of a town that are a complete dump with crime and drugs, what’s a good place for that? LA? Or???

I lived there 10 years and went through hell with the cops simply because they had an ongoing "war" (little did I know at first) with my fiance who was from there. Crooked cops. Otherwise, very beautiful. Mts, beach, and desert..all in reach. Beautiful. Hot, but after moving back to Washington State..I can't get used to the cold again. 😂

I’m glad you said it, I went through living hell, corrupt police & their strange relationship with the biker gangs, I almost got killed there, I’ve been gone and never going back. I knew a lot of hard core rednecks, raised my 3 kids there, I had loved a lot of things there. If you’re a far right republican then you are part of the good ole boy town. I will Never! Go back!

It’s only 5 to 10 minutes from Paso so you should be mentioning that most of the services and restaurants you say Atascadero does not have are extremely close by.
