Worse thing about MD is the temperatures. I lived there from 1974 to 2008. The temperatures are deceiving. Don't pay attention to the temp. pay attention to what it "FEELS LIKE". In winter they will say it's 35 degrees but with the "windchill factor" it , "FEELS LIKE, 25 degrees. In the summer they will say it is 87 degrees but with the humidity it "FEELS LIKE" 102 degrees. lol Also winter drags on and seasonal depression by February is a real thing. Instead of April showers bring May flowers, it is more like May showers bring June flowers. If you are from a gulf state, beware of the ocean water in June. It is warm outside but the water in Ocean City is still very cold. I'm a gulf of Mexico baby and grew up swimming in clear water beach so that June water is brutal in MD. I live in TN now. This state has shorter winter and while temperatures on the news may appear to be close to as cold, we don't have the same kind of "wind chill" factor. not to mention winter is so much shorter. Summer's are just as hot, with high humidity and the same bug problem.

I've lived here all my adult life, over 60 years and the worst I experienced is, indeed, mosquitos and a little repellent takes care of them. I've lived in Maryland for 35 years, and this is probably the coolest average temps through summer I can remember period. This State where I live, is good only for medium high class, high class people. Extremely high the cost of living here. Best seasons are fall and spring, you are right. There's not much to do here, (personal point of view), pretty boring state, rural.
@boondoggle48202 жыл бұрын
I don't think that the median home price in Baltimore County is nearly that high. I know that the median home price in Baltimore City is just under 200K, but there are a lot of rough areas that bring down the overall median price. According to Redfin the median sale price in Baltimore County is 320K, and that's during the height of the current affordability crisis. There are some parts of the county that are really expensive like Towson, Lutherville and places north of there, but there are also places in that are extremely affordable like Essex and Dundalk where I routinely see homes listed in the 200K range (you may have to pay more for flood insurance in those areas though because they're so close to the water). Luckily, Baltimore is still pretty much a blue collar city with blue collar home prices.
@livinginmaryland78372 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree with you. Medians and averages are tough to go by. The more expensive parts of Baltimore, like the areas up 83 really drive that figure up. And Baltimore County is so big. If you are serious about moving to Baltimore County, it is very helpful to look at stats more specific to the exact area or zip you want to be in.

Why did you not include Cumberland in discussing areas in Maryland, the cost of living in Cumberland is very low. and the mountains are very beautiful. People in Maryland are friendly...until you actually get to know them. Then a lot of them are just thin-skinned and entitled. They also tend to be political fanatics, especially in schools and medical facilities. There is also a lot of reckless driving. People will speed, even in parking lots and garages. As for the diversity, expect to deal with a lot of people who have difficulty with English, especially in government agencies, medical facilities, retail and food service, and the lower income areas in general. This is the truth and nothing but the truth. So, think twice before moving to the state of Maryland. Unless, as I said you are wealthy and healthy.

Life long Marylander (65 years), however, it has become time to leave. Maryland has is a beautiful State for the most part, plus you are within 4 hours of anything you want to do, however, it is not a senior friendly state, taxes are high. Home prices are some of the highest in the nation, crime is on a serious rise, traffic is absolutely horrible, cost of living is skyrocketing and the liberal policies care only for illegals and the entitlement citizens. The three biggest counties and Baltimore City are entitlement cesspools. The liberal government has gone off the deep end in their thoughts and policies.
