Good video for sure. I have always said the general rule of collecting is "buy what you want" and the general rule of investing is "buy what other people want".... but with cards (not just soccer, but all collectibles) because of the transaction costs (eBay/PWCC/Goldin), you have to "make" 15-20% on your investment just to "break even".... is that possible? Sure it is, but that type of markets requires that you may many more "good calls" than bad ones and stacks the math against in most markets. And by the way, I think that there are a few American collectors who know what the global collecting environment is... a least in the vintage space... probably taking your comment a bit too personal but there have been a number of "OGs" in the grind for a long time and some of us know more about certain things that many in Europe (or elsewhere).... still great video....

Biggest mistake I made early on was buying cards just because I thought I was getting a great deal and thinking that I would resell them. I ended up with a lot of low end cards of good players that I would have to sell in lots but don’t have the time or desire to do it.

Great video. I think there is a big difference in what cards you find at shows and what you see on eBay/KZbin/IG. Also nothing wrong with wanting to make money flipping at these shows, to each their own. It does become a problem when these flippers buy stuff they couldn't get rid off in the show and go out to pump and dump those.

If the thumbnail for a video features a "grown man" with his mouth gaped open like the anesthesia just wore off during a colonoscopy then I take the video as entertainment and not something of particularl value for "investing advice". Many times these videos are just staged anyways and rehearsed before actually being filmed. Thank you for sticking to your guns and doing content that isn't complete cringe.

Great video! As a predominantly pre war baseball collector with a sprinkle of 90s rare mixed in, I have been wanting to get into the footy space. I grew up rooting for Los Blancos and as such am a huge Ronaldo, Pepe, Ramos, Casillas fan. Been thinking of diving into 2014-2018 stuff and as such I think I will begin with my fav club.

Great video man. I collect Messi and Ronaldo color match cards from 2014 Prizm (start point) to 2020. Not buying 2021 going forward. Excellent insight.

Im making a vid around soccer cards now. Its really hard. Give u lots of credit for these vids/way u portray ur thoughts. I look for cards I got targets on for PC with no plans to ever move most often. If they go up. Great. Ive got a hard choice to make when I want it. Gotta be really hard to rely fully on flipping/buying new modern. Im so down on new modern prints. Hats off to those who can Ggs on the effort on these. Good vid/sentiment. Helps a lot of ppl to see things from dif angles

i agree with so much you say. I try collect cards from either a memory or something with a bit of history to it. Example id prefer to have cr7 euro 2016 to his 2017 prizm. The 1st set stuff doesnt mean much to me, its all the same shit. Having a 1st card say of cr7 at real now that has more meaning to me. Having a rc means something. Having a card from a person cause its the 1st set mean nothing at all to me and see it as just hype. All these flippers are just flipping to each other and the last one holding the card will be the loser.

Awesome vid! People need to hear this. You didn’t bash anyone and you didn’t say anything wrong about modern sets. People come in with their own biases and just can’t seem to let them go. Anyways my question/comment is…I know the 1994 UD World Cup set was mass produced but I’m very surprised that much of it is not graded, hard to find PSA slabs any guess as to why that is?
@UsmntSoccerCards7 ай бұрын
Thanks Ivan, glad you enjoyed it. Honestly I think it's because most of the set isn't worth grading. Aside from Mia Hamm and possibly a couple others they're too abundant to justify grading at this point. It's one of those junk wax era sets that will be pulled from basements/attics for a long time to come.

This video takes me back 20+ years when new basketball collectors were chastised for chasing the shiny new products instead of focusing on older releases or baseball. Stop trying to steer, your actions are no different than the influencers in your pics.

bs. has to do with much more than that. You cannot say the modern market is not based on hype and many people thinking they making money when in reality 95% will not be. You mentioned the word collectors, but are these people real collectors? Dont understand a collector buying something they plan to sell. That is not a collector to me. Now if you like the new product and want to "collect" it, awesome but if you buying thinking you going to be rich in x amount of time i think you will be disappointed. With current set up, unless cards are very low numbered and of a big player the card is worth f all. Give you few examples, case hit jude bellingham joga bonito (off memory 1 in 500 packs or about that mark). Nice looking modern card of a future legend, product breaks cards is worth say $100 maybe $150 early doors, 6 months later about $20. How anyone thinks holding a modern card would be worth it is beyond me. Quick flip, and you better have the people watching cause there are 1000's of people all doing the same shit trying to sell the same card.

I think you took this video the wrong way. I collect modern too. That was not the point.

@@UsmntSoccerCards I’ve seen a lot of your content and I can’t come up with a single modern set or modern player that you collect.

@@philmark2296when people use the generalized term of "the modern market" as you do I have a hard time taking them seriously. There are nuances to all the sports, the eras in those sports, the players, and the sets. There is no hard and fast rule but if you take the time to be educated about how people collect across the sports and their logic for doing so then yes you can understand why certain soccer sets are interesting or more desired. Is every modern soccer card great or worth overspending? No. I don't know anyone who thinks that way. But if you are serious about learning then you'll realize that 2014-2020 has many great qualities. What comes after will sort itself out.

1. I think you responded to the wrong comment. 2. Philmark never said "modern market" 3. No one said the modern space doesn't have collectible cards/sets @@klevene1
