Nice video and right on point! I just bought "protection" accessories at first: protection for my OW (sidekicks and float plates) and protection for myself (helmet, wrist guard and jacket with builtin pads). It's just a matter of "must have" and "nice to have". For me, I wanted to protect my investment and myself. Those were my top priorities. I didn't even have skate shoes at first. And I didn't get the fender, bc I wanted to ride first and see if it would really bother me without it. I just ride on asphalt/street... I don't ride offroad or dirty terrain... but after 2 weeks I decided to get one bc even riding just asphalt/street, even the small rocks or dirty on the street is really annoying. I'm still riding with stock tire and stock front and rear pads. I know everyone keeps saying to change to another tire or use another pad/grip tape. I'm pretty sure they are awesome, but I'm just trying to get the most of what I paid for before I start switching everything. And I think when you learn and get proficient with the basic accessories, it will make you a better rider when you get the good stuff.

I did order a footpad from ProRide, although it may not be what I think. It might just be a different type of grip tape. But I sure need something for this foot fatigue! Love your vids man. Jimmy! love your channel, just got my first board ( a pint) just 48 hours ago. It is everything you talk about it being and more. I couldn't agree more on these tips , especially to not get discouraged after your first few attempts or a fall. It gets MUCH MUCH more natural after about 3 days of riding, as long as your putting in at least an hour or so a day to really get the heel toe , and front back leg weight distribution. Keep up the awesome videos bro!

This is so great. I think the most important one is the speed record thing. After over 3k miles guess how many injuries I have from nosedives? Zero. Because I listened to this exact advice when I got my first board almost two years ago. I didn't break 20mph until I had well over a thousand miles on my plus - I figured it would be good to have a high amount of feel developed with the board before doing that stuff. It has paid off.

Thanks Adam. Unfortunately the more common story is the guy trying to set speed records with less than 30 miles experience, getting injured, and then posting the carnage on Facebook. I mean, they even have their own crash group of Facebook, that's how common it is!

Great video as always Jimmy! Really like to see you talking about safety gear like Hillbilly wrist guards, helmet etc. If its not self powered (like skateboarding), you have to learn and respect the power first. Too many people just want to shred out of the box new. If you paid that much money, you should learn to use correctly. Or it will be on ebay in a week. Take your time at your own pace, your onewheel is not going anywhere without you.🤙🤙🤙

So, I got my helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, elbow pads and bumsaver, first! Yep, there all in my bedroom looking at me saying, "Do it, order it, it's expensive, but it will be worth it!" I really like the tip about not being a speed demon. I don't need to nose dive on the concrete. Oh, another thing I did first. I got a Bosu Elite ball to strengthen up my ankles and improve my balance. Will be out there soon. Without the extras!

Know your charge. I would add; starting a ride with too little charge for the return trip. This assumes your board, like mine, fails to maintain a connection with the app and thus can't alert you of the battery status. Another mistake related to the battery charge is trying to go down hill (creating regen) on a fully charged board. I don't have any experience with this but read a post that said the board shut down. Thanks for all the great videos.

Hey Jimmy, this video really hit home for me. I experienced a nose dive a month ago. Totally my fault; trying to accelerate too fast. I broke my 5th metacarpal in my left hand, gave myself a mild concussion, and broke a toe. Luckily I was wearing a helmet, pads, and wrist guards. Who knows how bad it could have been. I’ve really enjoyed riding up until the crash, but being 44 years old I was considering putting my Onewheel up for sale. My wife has been very supportive. I’ve been looking at the fangs to try and build up my confidence. After watching this video I’ve decided to give it another go; of course with a new found respect for the board. I’m sure you’ve probably already seen this channel, but “sonny wheels” is developing a device he calls the SafeDive. This guy is a straight up mad scientist with the Onewheel. I thought you’d like this one in particular. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn6miK2bYqyIaKM Thanks for the vids and the inspiration. You’ve introduced me to the sport and participants like SlydogStrogh. Thanks Jimmy and son! I received my brand new XR last week but could only get out on it this past Saturday. I didn't follow your advice as I wanted to get all the protective Float life guards, fender, Kush pad, and handle. I wanted to do this while the board was new. I also have a helmet and wrist guards from snowboarding. I made sure the first thing I did was learn to properly dismount. After about 20 minutes of doing big figure eights in a big open parking lot I proceeded on cruising around and tacking elevation. I was in Delirium the whole time and really enjoyed the responsiveness. One hour after starting and going about 15 miles I feel comfortable cruising around. I never top 17mph and that is fine. It is a very fun 17mph. Thank you for your videos. It helped me decide to get the OneWheel to supplement my electric scooter fleet. The scooters are for commuting and I may add the OneWheel to the commuting fleet. It is much easier to carry as it is much lighter than my scooters.

@@freshlycharged I would get an E-Twow (also goes by Zoom Strider and Uscooters) for shorter commutes and greater portability. For longer commutes and greater speed and comfort I would go with the EcoReco L5+. It is a California-based scooter company that is close enough to where I live to get quick service if needed. I have 500 miles on it over the past month or so and it has been great. I have over 7000 miles between all the scooters I have owned. I try to commute to work from San Francisco to Fremont, California which requires something that folds and can be carried around when needed to get to street level from the underground. I have really enjoyed my most recent purchase: ecorecoscooter.com/product/l5/ I have the L5+ and it has been a great scooter. It can hold 25MPH and has solid tires which prevents puncture issues. It also has a robust suspension and can handle the gravel areas I hit along my 16 miles each day I use it for to get to and from the BART train station in San Francisco and Fremont. I also have this scooter: www.passiongadgets.com/passion-mini-4-aka-speedway4-mini-electric-scooter-lta-compliant-pmd-safety-authority-approved-sw4-mini-speedway-mini-4-mini4/ I have the 48v version and it has all the specs you want. Unfortunately it developed a short circuit which causes it to power down at anytime. I have stopped using it on a regular basis. I also have two of these: www.passiongadgets.com/passion-e2-etwow-s2-gen-ii-electric-scooter-e-twow-eco-master-booster/ I have the Booster (higher voltage) versions that I used for the same commute I use the Ecoreco L5+ for now. It can handle it and at only 27lbs. is a breeze to carry around when folded. All these scooters also fit in tall gym lockers which is great to avoid driving to the gym. I also have a scooter with 10" pneumatic tires and LED lights everywhere made by iFreego. This was a very comfortable scooter to ride but the disc brakes got damaged when I bent it going off a curb. It is still very usable once the brakes get straightened out but It has been just gathering dust since I got the EcoReco. I have also owned Xiaomei 365, EcoReco M5, EcoReco M3 scooters but sold them off to clear room in the garage. They all worked well but I prefer the ones I kept.

So jimmy i have a question for you. I just got my onewheel pint yesterday and i pratice yesterday and today i felt confident on the second day and the same nosedive at 2:42 min on your video happened to me, why? Whats the problem with the onewheel? The onewheel started to go left and right and i falled just like you on your 1 week of riding. Thank you for letting me know i can correct that misunderstand. Enjoy your day!

Haha so funny! First thing I did was buy a ton of accessories just like You said lol and of all those accessories not one of them was a helmet! One hour into the first ride I Couldn’t turn to avoid a curb and ended up with major speed wobble had to jump off before the board slammed into the curb. I did get discouraged after fall number two that happened right after fall number one haha but I didn’t give up!! Glad I made all 5 mistakes in my first few days now I’ve learned My lesson! This board will humble the Most cocky! Thanks for the vid 👌💪

If you have the money, a backpack case like the one sold by craft & ride is not a bad investment. I ran my one wheel down to 0 battery, and had to take the walk of shame for several blocks back to my car. It could have been much worse distance wise! And I was thinking...buying a handle is fine, but if I was wearing a one wheel backback, that'd be the most comfortable way to lug this brick of a board around!! It's bound to happen when you are having fun and not paying attention to battery, so I'd say after a fender, a backpack might be the second nearly must have accessory... Jimmy, can you use the fangs to drag the one wheel around like a piece of airport luggage? That's another idea...

@transce 3 жыл бұрын
I have one small correction and that is that if you get an XR then you absolutely need to buy a side handle. Carrying the XR with the small built-in handle for any length of time is pretty awful.

#5 So true. Just took my first bad fall. Had the wind knocked out of me and feels like i may have cracked a rib/ribs. Got up after recovering and kept going but with a lot more apprehension. After laying down a while i really feel it. Just tried to get on and ride around my driveway a bit but i find an almost instinctive paranoia of falling again. Ive been riding less than 2 days. I was riding my onewheel around an empty parking lot. Was getting good carving, still having issues going uphill leaning but downhill was getting decent speed. Tried to go across a gutter at an angle and it through me completely off balance and i fell. We will see how i feel tomorrow but tonight not even anting to mess with it.

Great tips! Safety gear should be #1 for sure. The amount of falls and injuries I've seen from no gear or improper use of gear is terrifying. Helmet tightness is also overlooked on numerous occasions. Helmets won't protect you if they're flopping around on your head or the incorrect size. 👍🏽

@freshlycharged

I would just ride the board stock at the beginning and have the self control to not go fast and over do it. If you stick to that, then consider Fangs, but don't let them give you a false sense of confidence.

I just won a Pint and I'd probably say - learn how to stand before you learn how to walk. It gets some practice to get used to the way onewheel balances itself and how it "kicks" when it engages. Standing properly is also something I learned is way more important than it seems. I trained in hallway wide enough for me to fall either way and I must say that getting on is IMO harder than learning how to get off (either with the heel lift or simplestop). I like it so far but man you get some bambi legs on it. I was surprised how much my legs wobbled given that I used to surf and yacht in my teens/early 20s (am now in late 20s). IMO it is harder to learn the balance on onewheel than it is on bike or surf since bike or surf only really pivot on one axis while onewheel pivots on two.

#1 is me. I pre-ordered the Pint with the top bundle and later ordered other accessories. I wanted the backpack but it wasn't available. My greatest regret was ordering the Immotor Go with all accessories for $1,700. The company went belly up in the US market and now it's being sold overseas (likely to get rid of stock) for about $300. Each time I buy an e-rideable and like it, I do go all out and buy every accessory. I am horrible that way. Fortunately the EUC is basic. I have a cover for it, and that's all.

Only things you really need from the OFFICIAL website are a fender and charger plug, side kicks and rail guards are optional, but not as much as things like a mag handle pro or anything. You can buy practically everything else you need on other websites, that are also a lot cheaper.

Hi Jimmy - I finally have my Pint and am having a tough time. I find myself falling backwards just like the lady in your video. I feel that if I can get control of that, I may be able to enjoy the board. Otherwise I am too fearful to enjoy any aspect of it. I know the standard rule of heel lifting or simple stop, but when falling, I think that goes out of the door and is replaced with panic. Any tips for building the confidence to properly dismount?

Had my GT for three weeks, no falls. I snowboard, so I felt comfortable on it. After riding one day for a good 7-10miles, I was more than warmed up. Went home and after a while, before going out with the fam, I was waiting for everyone to finished getting ready and decided to do a quick warm up around the cul-d'sac... just helmet and gloves... wasnt going to do anything stupid, nor was I going to go extremely fast... so falling or a nosedive was out of the question... well, I did had ONE stupid idea: How fast can I accelerate in Apex shaping/mode? I was at 0mph and decided that the best way to accelerate at full speed was to give the nose a strong push down and lean forward.... well, it accelerated so quick from 0mph to 10mph that when it hit its nose into the asphalt, i catapulted like if i was doing 25mph... it happened SO quick, i dont even remember the sequence in which i hit the ground. I just remember rolling and hitting my helmet, which for sure saved me from a concussion. My left hand glove also protected me, as I saw it was very scraped, but dont recall every touching the ground with my hands... cat reflects helped me, but it happened insanely fast. As far as injury, luckily no broken bones... just a bruce and a scrape in the pelvis, right-side of the right knee, and a bit on the elbow... my cellphone in my pocket saved me from a bigger pelvis bruice (it has a hard case that broke) and a winter jacket that I was wearing saved my shoulder and elbow... couldve been way worse. It was 100% my fault and I wont be messing around unless im full padded. It's still the best thing that I have ever bought... but it's like a 1000hp Shelby Cobra... you can drive it well, know its limits, and you'll have fun... but be an idiot and say "what happens if I dump the clutch at 6000rpms while making this 90 degree turn??" and you will soon find yourself in the opposite side of the fun spectrum 😂

Hey Jimmy. I've been following the onewheel for some years now. Always wanted to know how it felt to ride one. Last week i finally did! Only for like, 20 minutes or so i tried the onewheel+ at a small shop in the Netherlands. (i'm from Belgium). I loved it. Now i really want one but here they sell the XR for 2000 euros (2270 dollars) and i dont know if i want to make this huge investment. I live near a forest with some nice trails and i also want to use it just to cruise around my neighbourhood. So i dont need it to commute, i just want it for fun. The vendor from the shop said the Pint will arrive late september and told me if you want to ride in the forest, buy the XR. the Pint is priced at 1175 euros (1330 dollars). I can afford both but dont want to throw so much money away if i get bored of it. i looked for used boards here but they are nowhere to be found here in Belgium... What do you think i should do? Great video's by the way. They prepared me for my test ride last week :)
@freshlycharged

I agree, if you plan on doing trails, get the XR. if you end up not liking it and want to sell you should be able to recoup most of your losses given the lack of used one wheels in the market around you.

@@freshlycharged Hi Jimmy. i just went for it and bought it. really enjoy the onewheel XR. happy that i bought it. i get very strange looks from people which is hilarious and it truely is a conversation starter :) i own it for almost 3 weeks now. i fell pretty hard on the third day when i was riding trails. i was overconfident and went too fast too soon. tried trails again but slower and didnt enjoy it as much. still i feel like i dont have that much control over the board then just riding on the street. that's why i enjoy riding on the street more now and i love carving with it. any tips on getting that 'control' on trails?
@thatguyjoel9885
@thatguyjoel9885 3 жыл бұрын
@@jornjanssen90 you will be able to ride trails as you develop stronger muscles and more familiarity with the board. Start slow, get to know how it feels offroad and how the board reacts differently on dirt as opposed to concrete. I prefer riding mine on dirt to asphalt because I feel more stable on dirt, I feel asphalt has more random wobbles and hi/lo points than trails that in my experience are more organically shaped, with no sudden dips or side to side changes in height like I experience on concrete. I'm also 230lbs, and ride with a tire psi of 24, so dirt riding is a bit slower for me than how quickly I achieve top speed on concrete.

Not sure if anyone on here mentioned it but some beginners try it out on grass 1st and get discouraged. Grass is probably the worst place to try it because of the bumpy ground or thickness of the grass. Pretty wobbly there but if you get on a nice flat smooth driveway or sidewalk, that's the ticket.
