As opposed to the mobo manufacturer who sent me in circles saying it was the ram or the psu (Seasonic platinum...i dont think so) or even the CPU. I got myself a Makita one years ago and proudly used it on removing dust from PCs, servers, car engine bay, drying bike after wash etc. Ear plugs not included. Do all work with blower outside. It still makes me smile remembering my friend using it indoors on 5 year old PC that spent it's life on floor, never cleaned...

One of the best investments I've made to aid in my builds is a good set of molex tools so I can customize my cables. It doesn't necessarily make the building process any easier because it is quite time consuming, but you can cut every cable to the perfect length, making cable management a dream. You can also sleeve them individually yourself too, saving money on pre made custom cables or extensions. It's quite a rewarding feeling when the cables in the back of your case looks as good as the front.

The price then was $219... within 72 hours there were "offers" for up to $500. 3 months go by and I get notified and purchased it for the original price... THANKS NEWEGG! At the time they were still "offered" for $390 or so. I've done several builds going back to building my 1st pc... 386 w/ 1 MB Ram, a 10 MB Hard drive that was the size of todays power supply's and a 10 inch floppy disc 720 KB if I remember right. I have all the parts for a X570 MSI Tomahawk WIFI except the CPU I want. I'll be using a Ryzen 5 3600 for now... the 5600 or 5800 is still a rumor as far as I can see due to politics and scalpers. My current "old system" works fine, an Asrock FM2A88X with a AMD 880K Quad core, and duel Sapphire 7870 XT BOOST Tahiti's. I'm not a gamer or editor, but it has worked for 8 years for writing, researching and lots of streaming. I just have to WAIT to update my "box of rocks" as my late dad used to say. Totally agree with your list... for me the motherboard screws are the biggest pain... pick the wrong screw and you may not get it back out of the standoff... I wish the motherboard screws were either a different color or a totally different head to not confuse them with SSD or PSU screws... so frustrating. One tip... when screwing in the motherboard screws, turn your screwdriver in the opposite direction slowly until you hear/feel a click (as the screw drops in to the threads), then screw in normally... totally eliminates a cross threading fiasco.

Im waiting to build a new machine in the spring when availability hopefully is normal. And at the moment im trying to select a case when allows the 24 pin to go out and around the back without needing to be kinked up or down so its looks nice and level. same with the Gfx card power cable. I helped a friend build a PC recently and in order to get the 24 pin to keep on the level we took a hacksaw to the back and opened up the grommet space then put black carbon fibre vinyl around the slot to make it look neater. I love the act of building a pc, same as using a soldering iron when im building a new racing drone.

Right now it is trying to find the parts you actually want instead of having to settle for what you can find.

For the SATA cables, get the ones that have the adjustable connector so you can put it in at a 90 degree angle without having to bend the wire because usually that will break with the straight go SATA cable very easy

additional point on m.2 ssds: those that come with their own heatsinks make installing the screw even more painful, as it can make it hard to even see the socket the screw is to go into

When installing a radiator with pull fans in the top of a case (or at least the last time I did that in a case without a removeable tray) I made it a bit easier by using half the number regular fan screws to attach the fans before installing the radiator.

The worst part is not making sure you have all of your components, or if you ware upgrading, making sure that the components you are reusing are in good condition. My desktop is in the middle of an upgrade, but I had to stop when I noticed that my AIO was not in a condition where I could comfortably reuse it. So now I have to wait for a new cooler to come in the mail. There always the little things to, like cable extensions, extra zip ties, etc. that if you don't have, can be very frustrating.

I agree on the PCi locking mechanism, even using a screwdriver i'm nervous of slipping off and damaging my motherboard... Apart from that, my main hiccup is the motherboard standoff screws, that get unscrewed when removing the motherboard, so that i then have to remove them once again with the motherboard outside the case and screwing them in the case again.

The worst part about my first PC build was finally getting my hands on a 5900x and trying to place it into my socket and it wouldn't fit, I flip it over and see the pins were bent. I had an aneurism of sorts, luckily after 5 minutes of shock and some very fragrant language, I was able to fix the pins with a razor blade! Beyond that though, everything else on the computer build went together exceptionally smooth!

The absolute biggest pain for an enthusiast in my personal experience is fan cables. The wiring is thin enough to have a small connector footprint, but the daisy chains get rapidly out of control after 3 or more fans. I feel like it's at a point where psu companies may as well have a dedicated modular slot just for fans, instead of buying a header hub (which are still a mess for the most part) More fan companies need to do what Lian Li did with their new design, but at the very minimum can we just get rid of molex? It's been at least 12 years since SATA power cables. In would also like Power units to be more clear about connecting CPU and PCI power. Whats the difference between both of those cables, why are they not interchangable and why is there a split in ANY of them. like... no one wants a split PCI power cable. It looks horrible. I also want to see more small form factor cases which take advantage of larger boards. As gorgeous as a LianLi Dynamic or NZXT case or In-Win tower can look, i still feel like there's so much underused negitive space. More cases like Singularity where the cable management is a feature is an excellent idea but wont become affordable until more companies attempt it and make it more competitive.

12:11 Good thing I switched to Linux in summer 2020. I use Windows 10 as a VM. Updating Linux takes so much less time than Windows.

Whinging about SATA cables being hard to bend and route? I still remember loving the switch from IDE to SATA.

I had the same problem with my meshify 2 case and the top screws! What a windup... managed it in the end but one of the screw heads was wrecked. Replaced both screws with better ones. Why didn’t those screws have the hex head on too!!!!

Doing everything perfectly, having the system post, but when you move the system you hear a metal sound inside the case...

We used to slipstream windows installation and put only new updates to it instead of downloading the entire OS, what happened to that?

That’s so right about the boxes on a first build. I’m guilty of taking a pic of all my boxes prior to my first rig....now I toss those bad boys in the garbage after over tested that the component works properly.

For the M.2 I used the standoff screw for M.2, I couldn't use the good screw, it's just way too small, especially when the motherboard is already in the case. Also when the SATA ports are below the video card. And when sometimes you need to buy separate 90 degrees cables. And the very hard to bend 24 pin cable, to the point you feel like you pusing way too hard into the socket or when you want to remove it. On Ryzen there is 97% chance, the CPU comes out with the cooler even if the CPU bracket is down.

11:55 For Windows 10 there is a tool to update directly to the latest version. I went from 1706 directly to 20H2 in one go. without that it would have been a day of updates.

Totally agree on wiring. Why do they not universalize power button wiring so you just plug a sing cable in? I miss the Asus Q-plug. And yes about front panel wiring too! And YES about MoBo stand offs! For Effs sakes! Bought screw organizers ages ago,, one for black and one for silver.

my biggest pain of building a pc for the first time two weeks ago is that the corsair 220t has thumbscrews on the back panel that don't go the full way off so I had to wrestle to take it off and the room in the back for cable management is so small that my back panel has a bump
