What about fruit? I have a feeling it has a plural form fruits but I feel like I don’t know how to use it properly
@jansoltes971
@jansoltes971 Ай бұрын
Fruit is a collective noun taking a singular verb: Fruit is good for you; The tree bears fruit (not fruits). The plural fruits is used in talking about different types of fruit: oranges, mangoes and other fruits.
@DashanotSasha
@DashanotSasha Ай бұрын
@@jansoltes971 When you say: Fruit is good for you, aren't you talking about different types of fruit?
@jansoltes971
@jansoltes971 Ай бұрын
@@DashanotSasha You could be. But the emphasis is likely on the general fact that it's food - similar to "Fresh clean water is good for you." or "Do you eat meat/white bread?". Here, too, the emphasis is on "food", not the "types of it". I suggest you check out Cambridge Dictionary (or any other good online one) for example sentences - you'll realize that both forms (fruit/fruits = countable/uncountable) can be used interchangeably in many situations.

Ok, first of all, I'm not defending anybody but I know what you might feel and what you might think my friend but it's the only way to know how to speak the language correctly so you'll know what to say and how to say it then you can communicate in a better way. Besides, why do they dare to teach a language which isn't their mother tongue ?, they should teach their mother tongue, the fact that they speak it, doesn't mean they can teach it correctly. They don't care about our correct learning of the language, all they care about is money and profits.

The best way to learn is learning from mistakes. This is not about “making videos about other people’s mistake” as you think! this is about teaching you how to avoid mistakes made by those so called “English teachers” and how to speak English correctly! If you are not interested in this, then you have your choice not to watch their videos and do something else more useful instead of leaving none sense comments. It’s very simple!
