Manor Lords has just hit early access and I have to say, it has been so much fun to play this past week. I highly recommend checking it out if you like city builders or the medieval setting. In this video, I show you five mistakes I made in the early game of Manor Lords that you should avoid. Thank you for watching and if you read this description, type "oh my gosh, this video was insanely good." in the comments for a 100% chance to receive nothing in return.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manor Lords is a medieval city-builder and real-time tactics video game developed by Greg Styczeń from Slavic Magic and published by Hooded Horse. The most anticipated game on Steam upon release, with over three million wishlists, it released into early access on 26 April 2024.

You don't need a Sawpit immediately. You can convert the initial camp to a Workcamp to immediately house the five families. Demolish later when you have Burgage plots to house them. You REALLY need to build the Storage, Granary, and Marketplace immediately (all next to each other). For Trading, use your first Perk to upgrade Trade Logistics so trade routes cost 25. Otherwise, they are EXTREMELY expensive.

@@ImWelly Thanks. That's very kind of you. Building a Sawpit early, though, allows you to make Warbows, which are excellent when selling.

For who ever reads this: if your spawn doesn't have a rich iron deposit, just re-spawn because iron is in the top 3 basic necesities (alongside with food and wood). If you don't have iron you will simply not be able to craft elements for your army

You can, however, trade for weapons, if you have something worthwhile you can produce in large numbers and export.

It depends on your spawn. If you DON'T want to just save scum the optimum spawn, continue reading; Iron is your best friend for a militia run. Iron gets turned into armour and weapons. But, you're not always going to have a rich Iron deposit or get the Deep Mine upgrade so it doesn't run out. Iron mining with Deep Mines in a territory that has that possibility is the best way. But its not the only way. Wood. MY best friend. I farm wood. A lot of people do, but I go one step further. I take the wood and turn it into dully made items, planks, shields, warbows, etc. I put my first two development points into trade, specifically, the one that makes opening new trade routes cost no more than 25 gold and the one that reduces import costs by 10. I then trade. Alot. I sell sell sell. And I buy armour, weapons, helmets etc at a surplus of 10. This ensures I will always have the equipment I need for my militias and allows me to focus on what i need to.

A tip for militia management. Try luring enemy bandits away from their camps and get them to come near your town. Do this around September or as early as you can manage. Before the first year has passed at least so no competition with the Baron. My favorite way to do this is with a unit of 5 archers, 5 being the smallest size squad that one may rally. It's easy to rush build a fletcher's workshop and pump out 5 warbows. Carefully wait until the 5th bow is made/dropped off, do this by watching what that family is doing on normal game speed. Then simply destroy the fletcher building to free the workers up and stop making the warbows. The less people on militia duty the better, more workforce available for everything else that's needed. If you accidently create too many warbows, try to make multiple archer squads and see if they split down to as near a group of 5 as you can get. Now just rally this squad and go forth to one camp at a time and trigger the brigands to chase them. Walk your squad back to near your town. Then rally your spear militia and get them into a good position before the enemy arrives. Try to make sure that your spearmen have a full fatigue bar and are ideally positioned on high ground facing to the direction the brigands are coming from. The best formation for near equally numbered forces is "hold your ground". This works doubley well with spearmen as their impale stat negates enemy charges such as what the brigands always do. The best way to fight them with this formation is to spread out as wide as possible. I've managed to walk away with zero losses with a unit of 10 spearmen vrs a full 16 brigand squad this way. The 5 man archer squad should be diectly behind your spearmen line, then run around behind the enemy to shoot them while they are engaged in melee. It's not as important to do this since archers are still super weak atm. There's a trade off to fighting in your owned regions. If people die in one of your regions, they will need to be burried or it will make the folks in the town unhappy. This leads to needing to build a corpse pit and assigning a worker to burial detail. Best to place the corpse pit directly on top of the bodies that need to be burried. Any of your troops that die in your own regions will be brought back to be buried at your church. The corpse pit assigned family will automatically do this, so no need to assign one at the church too. If you prebuild the corpse pit(s) near where you expect to fight, this can save you time later but is all kind of a waste. Even with the morale boost by fighting in their home region, it's better to avoid fighting in your populated regions. Any deaths in other unpopulated areas will not need burial, even your own troops that die. Sadly/strangely. Anyways, I hope my ramblings can help someone, cheers!
