You need a luggage rack on your tour pack to give you a little more storage space.
@AusMotorcycleAdventures Жыл бұрын
all you need is a tarp, and a flask of whisky ;-) I've been bike camping for 30 odd years, and i enjoy a nice tent, warm sleeping bag and decent sleeping matt. i find the camping solo on a bike gives you some kinda cave man primordial feeling of surviving on minimal equipment. i always pack twice what i need tho.

I use a cot instead of sleeping on a air mattress. It fits in the tour pack with my camp chair ,cooking gear, nice and lightweight. The cooler goes in the left side, dry food in right side.

I saw your two vids on the RE campout. Wish I'd only seen the beautiful peaceful edited one with music (very artistic BTW). Glad the illness was minor and you got home safely. For the Big Agnes little hiking tent, if you hate packing up camp...consider instead of the luggage on the rack, to roll everything on your tent. Sleep pad, sleep bag, pillow, sleepwear...just leave it in there deflated. Fold the tent upon it. Roll the whole thing up tightly, cinch it down on your rack over your side bags. The floor is now your waterproof "bag" Put the food, kitchen, chair and personal stuff in the side bags. You can be packed up in 5 minutes or less without fatigue and struggling to compress everything in their darned individual bags. I ride a similar size bike and over years came to that conclusion. I also like to arrive early, ride the area in the afternoon, camp the evening and then move on to another park tomorrow over 2 or 4 nights. That tent roll makes tomorrow's setup much easier. It is also great if there's rain or the site is wet. Everything sleep oriented stays dry during setup/rollup. I've even arrived at a site, dropped the roll, unrolled, and ridden off after staking my claim...to come back at dusk to unpack and erect the full camp. I doubt you could do that with the Lone Rider tents...those are really nice but for a BIG BIKE and a long stay. No need to conserve space on the highway cruisers...just a nice roomy ride.

If you get the poles out of the tentbags of the lonerider tents you could get some compression straps and make them pack smaller. And then put the poles in one of the bags on the bike.

Just did a 2 night moto-camp over Mother’s Day weekend. It poured down Friday night and Saturday early day. Stayed nice and dry in my tent. If you take care of your gear it will take care of you. Thanks for the commentary on how to get a campsite. I learned that thirty years ago, but guess what? What I learned is no longer true! I appreciate the update. Discovered on the SE coast in the late winter this year, that government run campgrounds are usually (sometimes exclusively) reservable online- all fees can be paid through your phone. Often there aren't even pay envelopes anymore. In late January few campgrounds were open, but the open ones weren't full, so it worked out.

Hi Jess I have been really enjoying your channel, and because of you I am starting the process of getting my license. Its gonna take awhile but I will get there. I have to decide which bike I want its between the indian sport chief and dark horse. As I am only 5'3 in height not sure which one will suit. I know you will say sit on the bikes and I would expect they are about a year away from being at my dealer lol. Anyway as I have done some dirt bike riding , big congrats for you riding the Himalayan it is a different experience but soo cool enjoy.

Great video. I needed to hear all this because I'm starting to get the each to go camping. I'm a veteran and I can stay at a military base for $5 - $10 if I camp. Showers are free. Breakfast and dinner are at the mess hall. It's like Golden Corral, and it's under $6. It's safe too because only military people can come in.😊 Would you ever consider taking your pet with you. I know you can take her on your Toy-hauler. Would you take your cat with you?

For me, I always go with bike packing gear because space is limited for packing on the bike. Putting a bag on the passenger seat is a deal breaker for me. Not because of pillion, but because I don't want getting on and off the bike to become a chore. I have used a 2 man tent from REI for years. It's smaller than pretty much anything you showed, except the tiny one. It's longer than that, but not as wide. I can't remember the name, but I'm sure they make different models now anyways. Same goes with my bag and pad. Small, small, small. I gotta have room for rain gear, warm gear, gloves, clothes, bathroom bag, a few key tools (tire flats in particular), my bag with all the camera gear and at that point, I'm all out of space. No room for cooking gear, food, etc. I could stack more on the tail if I HAD to, but I don't want to. I don't get that remote when I camp. Not my thing. I usually pack by content type. Ie: clothes in one pannier, camping on the tail rack, rain gear in there as well. Right pannier is the camera case, a couple pairs of gloves (more on tail pack), water bottle, a few tools. For weight distribution, not the best as the clothes are lighter than all the stuff in the other pannier, but the exhaust is on the left side, too. IMO, it's still camping in a toy hauler, it's just not TENT camping. The key difference other than having a fridge, AC and stove of course, is you DRIVE the toy hauler and you ride when tent camping. That's my take on it anyways. Do whatcha like and enjoy.

The problem I have when I pack my bike, is that things are a little too long and I can’t see out my mirrors very well. Definitely too long to pack up.
