I don’t see that as a scam, it would be a scam if he said that the jersey is original ! He says 450dhs you say 60dhs . If the price is not fair just leave the shop and check another. In morocco we are used to do the bargain in traditional Souks. That’s why almost everyone is adding a huge margin compared the real price so that everyone meets in the middle.

The guy that took you there is getting a prearranged cut from the deal. They are local and work out finders fees among themselves. Hi, just to give you the trick for this tourist shops : when they say 400dh, you start from the middle and bargain lower, it means even with 200dh they have still enough margin/profit, so you have to get them down between 100 and 150 dh. My mother knew well how to handle them and I learned that, when you give your second price you stand to go out and you tell your compagnon " let's go back the the previous one" and that's where they will pack it for you for 150dh because they don't want to loose you for another concurrent.

Speaking from my experience of going to agadir, many times they tried to charge extra because of the colour of our skins and where we were from. My little boy wanted a tea pot and the shop keeper gave us a ridiculous price just because we were British. We said no of course and didn't buy anything from that particular store. Same thing has happened even in fun fairs for a children's ride (my white kid had to pay more than a moroccan kid) and the airport in agadir. Again, we said no in those cases too. I don't think it's right to charge people extra just because of where they're from. That kind of racism is illegal in the uk. A Moroccan would never visit the uk and be charged more than a british person. The shop keeper at the airport made a comment to my husband in arabic (husband is moroccan) "they are british, they can afford it" but little did he know, my visit to Morocco was entirely free (a gift), I was staying very cheaply in my husbands family home with home cooked meals everyday (no eating out) and back at home in the uk, I couldn't even afford a bed. I slept on the floor. People shouldn't assume that all British people are wealthy. You never know someones circumstances. Racism is racism. I went home and bought my son the same teapot from amazon and since then, I still go to morocco and enjoy the beach, pool, scenery, look around shops etc... but unless it's necessary, I don't buy anything anymore because on principle I don't think it's right to make assumptions about peoples wealth and charge them extra just because of where they're from

I am Moroccan and I love my country, I have also travelled to the USA, Canada, Europe, and the UK.. My advice to you, is if you go to Marrakech don't buy anything and don't go to Jamaa el Fna, stay in a nice hotel in Gueliz and enjoy the nice climate, eat in high end restaurants and don't go to bazaars or speak back to people. Anything you buy in Marrakech is just a scam. if you jump in a taxi and they overcharge you from what's on the meter just refuse to pay and call the police, they are all over the city.

Morocco is a lovely place and I have had a holiday home there in Agadir for 11years. Like everywhere you need to be careful as it’s easy to feel intimidated by the locals when you are not used to the customs. There are many stalls in the souk and if you feel stressed to make a deal just walk away. Just be aware and don’t believe everything you are told ..

I'm Hispanic but when I go there I fit in and everyone thinks I'm Moroccan, but my wife is from Morocco and whenever we buy something or get a cab she handles everything because once they find out I'm not from Morocco they double or triple the price of what they would charge a Moroccan. Letting my wife handle everything has saved us a lot of money whenever we're there. Also we never let anyone lead us anywhere like that because they also expect you to pay them.

Just back from Marrakech. The Medina is a rip off. The Souks are much more honest and reflective of nice Morrocan people We got "fresh" fruit juice which is advertised at 10 Dirham and were disgusted: When he passed the juice to us it was warm, solidified and he charged us 40 Dirham, so 20 Dirham each saying it was a special mix.... He basically didnt squeeze any fresh juice. We SAW him tip the sludgy juice from a jug behind the counter. My wife got the runs a day later. BAD experience

its not always good to bargain, because at the end of the day they need to make a profit and you're just preventing them from making a profit. for example if i buy a watch at 100 euros and i want to sell it at 200 but someone keeps on asking for 110 or 120 then i won't make a big profit, especially if like him im selling many things. it's sometimes good to bargain, 300 was already pretty good since its 1/4 of the original's price and it still looks pretty good, but dont always try to get stuff for less
