Footwork and balance are so important to proper stroke mechanics. You are right that this is rarely discussed and becomes all the more important to focus on as we get older. Thanks for putting it together. Great stuff.

I've been playing for 3yrs but I still always look at your lesson for lots of reason. I noticed in this vid you are playing with the Icon. I bought one right when they came out and love it. I also just got the Gearbox CX14 and have not played it yet. Your older vids you used a GX5 which I also have. So what do you think of the Icon? I'll be switching between the two from time to time. Keep the great vids coming. Love Tony too.

Thanks CJ, I heard and saw something here about things I'm doing wrong that I can begin to work to correct 🤗

Great advice on how to improve balance. I teach this to my patients all the time. The balance exercise you demonstrated also strengthens the muscles surrounding the ankles and helps with proprioception (closely related to balance)--both will reduce the incidence of inversion ankle sprains.

Footwork is key to 1st part of any shot, attack or defense. At nvz, if you have to scramble a reaching shot, your best shot (if around the middle) is a 'soft drop' to the middle., any other shot has a higher percentage to put you in more trouble. I e. While reaching, unbalanced any popups or drive means the shot coming back will be faster than your response. A drop gives you time to reset and neutralize their offense.

I agree with you Fran, a well executed drop (reset) will get you out of trouble. But no matter what get it over.

Thanks, CJ. I’ve been told that I actually stand with my feet too far apart, so I’m trying to be cognizant of keeping my feet about shoulder-width. Great content. I’ll be mindful of my posture when I hit my next pop-up!

It would help if a line was drawn showing the height of the ball on the bounce.
