So can you buffer the entire QCF or just the d,d/f?
@HawooAwoo7 жыл бұрын
A better way to describe deathfist is pressing 2 while in crouch dash. You enter crash dash with a qcf. If you do the entire qcf motion while in recovery, you will not enter crouch dash and there will be no deathfist. So yah, you can only buffer the the d,d/f.
@Dparrey7 жыл бұрын
I really get you now. I guess I didnt understand what Aris was really saying by saying that it should be a separate move in the list at first. But in terms of buffering now I totally get it. You can't buffer an entire move and the QCF alone is basically the first move in that "combo". Thanks for the help.

I completely get what the first guy was having problems with. Essentially if you do the deathfist too soon nothing comes out, it's just a case timing it slightly. I actually find it way easier to do demoman instead of qcf2 at the end of combos, because I get nervous and rush the qcf2 and nothing comes out. But in warm-up the qcf2 is very easy to hit. That said, I have never managed a qcf1 qcf2 combo, or the staple qcf1 qcf1 in combos. Just not fast enough.

I'm a Paul main. I've been playing Paul since Tekken 2. Aris explained this pretty well. So for anyone wondering, this is my theory. You can buffer part of the quarter circle forward (qcf) motion, which is down into down/forward into forward, in your previous command. Specifically, I believe you can buffer the down and the down/forward in the ending frames of your previous command. In the first few frames after your previous animation ends, you have to hit the forward and 2. Deathfist is a decent example of this, but I firmly believe that thruster (qcf+1) is a better example and practice of this because it can be used in combo and in my opinion will take Paul players to a higher level. Try doing thruster three times in a row to combo. It's definitely possible, but extremely difficult. Thruster is Paul's version of the Mishima electrics. It crushes high attacks, and if you're a seasoned Paul player you can land two Thrusters after a launch (I think I saw someone land three Thrusters after a launch for wall carry). Anyone curious, I made a Tekken Tag 2 combo video with Paul. I think a lot of these combos work in the Tekken 7. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJXRm5WGZrykmaM I plan on making a Tekken 7 video with some basic combos as well.

@Minastir17 жыл бұрын
The issue here is that in Tekken you can buffer one input in the recovery. Crouchdash takes that input, so you can't fully buffer a deathfist. This input can be a crouchdash, dash, sidestep, a punch whatever. You just can't buffer moves that require your character to go to a certain state manually like a crouchdash moves and dash moves etc. In this example you need to buffer the crouchdash and time the deathfist manually.

The game kinda screwed him. I remember playing Tekken 3 and moves like that had a star in between them to denote "neutral". Him, Lei, Heihachi, Jin, etc. all had those in some of their moves to hint that it wasn't performed like a Street Fighter style motion.
@ScorchedEclipse7 жыл бұрын
wait the stars were for the crouch dash-able stuff though right? i don't recall seeing stars for qcf commands :O
@ReflectionEternal27 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they were. The star denoted the wait time required in between the motion where you left the stick neutral. Not sure if it changed, but in 3, I couldn't do the Spinning Demon on Heihachi or the Phoenix Smasher on Paul unless I paused a bit during the dash. Now that I think about it, the star was even there for the backwards qcf(sway) attacks paul had too.
@psnLoneWulf147 жыл бұрын
The problem here is not that it needs a star because you don't need to go into neutral to do a death fist. The problem is that it doesn't treat the crouch dash as a stance. The command for death fist should just be "2, during crouch dash" (or whatever name they give the crouch dash stance)
@RenegadeVile6 жыл бұрын

Leo has something similar, which really messed me up in one of his combos, where you have to do a qcf+3. Not only do you have to delay the 3 input so you get more distance from the crouchdash, but you actually could buffer the qcf input quite far behind. The combo input is df2, f2, b1,4,qcf3, ff, f2,2. The way i do the input is df2, f2, b1, qcf, 4, 3, ff f2,2. since the crouch dash could be buffered. I don't know if this helps anyone, but i can see how it could confuse people coming from Street Fighter. TL,DR buffer the QFC, but only press the button once you are in the crouchdash

As a new player to Tekken, and one that doesn't play Paul, I think the error here WAS communication, in a sense. What I mean: As a new player, (I main King/Julia,) I have my idea of what buffering is. I can do a jab into a giant swing or into mad axes CONSISTENTLY, by "buffering". Which, to me, is inputting the entire motion, minus the BUTTON, during another move. But from watching this video, if what you said early on was true, being that you have to be in the crouch dash "stance" in order to do the Death Fist, I don't believe that's the same as what we noobs understand "buffering" to be, even if that's what buffering is. Because even watching you perform the move in combos, you did the entire motion followed by the button very fast, even when someone in chat asked you to do a bigger move. So I think bruhs problem is A: not doing the motion fast enough to get the crouch dash out/doing the motion before he's free to act, which would also result in not getting the crouch dash out, or B: Not successfully pressing DF on the way between D and F. For me at least, I found this to be my problem when learning to buffer mad axes. You HAVE to get those in between motions on the way or it drops and you jab and you look like an idiot and you get launched and you go donate to a streamer asking wtf is wrong with you. For instance, with King, the grab that begins the RDC chain grab, I forget the name of the grab and the input off top of my head, but you have to crouch dash that grab. For what 'I' would consider to be a buffer, you absolutely 100% cannot buffer that shit after any move, because you HAVE to crouch dash FIRST in order for that grab to come out. So as King, if you try to jab into an RDC chain grab, you have to do it at the end of the jab, or in your own words, once your character is free to act. Essentially meaning that the initial move is over, which for me at least, a noob, is not what I call buffering. Obviously I'm probably the one who's wrong lol. But again, mad axes, giant swing, I can literally jab, input those motions, and get the grab 10 frames later. Because those are moves that are done from the "standing" stance, therefor, as long as King is free to act when I push 1, I can do my half circle forward during my jab animation and land giant swing before my opponent can react, it's netter me half my wins with King. Super long reply to this, just wanted to try and contribute to the discussion and give insight from a new players perspective. If noob paul is familiar with that style of buffering from other characters, such as King, then maybe that's why he's confused that he can't land death fist mid combo. He's executing too fast and needs to wait until the previous moves recovery frames are over so that he can execute the crouch dash first and then push the button for death fist, I think it's 1 I can't remember. But yea, hope this helps somebody, or that somebody calls me out for being totally wrong because I barely get by and am fresh out of the Dans. :b
@RuiGomes437 жыл бұрын
It's funny because I have the exact same issue I picked up the game like, 3 days ago and I can do a regular hell sweep with Kazuya just fine, but whenever I try to use it in combos, it kind doesnt seem to come out.
@kaimanic14067 жыл бұрын
I think it's not about he can't do a deathfist, it is about to bring the deathfist in the combo. The reason why it's a bit difficult is, that you need a very precise timing to link the deathfist into the combo. At the start, i also struggled a bit with this combo, but after a while, you know when you have to pull out your deathfist.
@orangesoda45357 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had similar issues back when I was starting with Tekken. I had the impression that you just had to follow the command list to the letter if you wanted to win. Like, with Jin, I always completed the 1,3,2,1,4; but, then, I realized I could stop at 1,3,2,1 and follow up into d3+4 or 1+2.

@A.L.E.X.T7 жыл бұрын
I'm noob_Paul aka buffering_Paul, I knew from the beginning how buffering works. And I never played street fighter. My problem was that I couldn't time it right (and still can't). For example, Heihachi's qcf+2 you can easily buffer from any other move. But the deathfist you can't, because the character has to physically crouch-dash before pressing 2, otherwise it won't work. For some reason, the timing is extremely difficult.
@LuistrAmalgo6 жыл бұрын
So what I think i have understood here is that you can buffer the beggining of the roll-dash. So instead of buffering the whole qcf you buffer d,df and then, when you are fully recovered from the previous move, immediately after the buffer, follow with f2 and that gives you a death fist. I dont understand if that gives you a death fist with or without the roll dash though. I dont play Paul but I will give it a try next time I play.

So glad I watch this because as fighting game noob, I had no idea that the arrows were identifying a stance.
@NarutoSpiderman1237 жыл бұрын
I think Aris is saying that crouch dashing (the arrows that point down then eventually turning to the right) is a stance itself, not that the arrows are individually identifying stances. It's movement needed before an attack, yes, but I don't arrows can individually identify a stance unless it says so. I'm new to Tekken, though, so idk. Do some homework.

QCF on Paul is a STANCE. I picked that up playing him back when in Tekken 3 onwards but it never fully clicked that it really is a stance since the game doesn't come outright and say it. It's like they could have called QCF something like Gait step and said that the deathfist attack comes while in this step but nooo, it only lasts a few frames so we're not going to call it a stance. Even though you can QCF and it does something all on its own.
@DonBozzi5 жыл бұрын
I had to try and noticed that it's way easier if you hold d while hitting with the elbow and then from d you do the quarter forward + 2 while the opponent is turning face down in the air. So it seems that this move is buffered as Aris intend it,since you start holding down from the previous attack. Nice channel, your vidz are precious and addicting☺

I use this combo (with the screw at the start) to wall carry (ending with the 1+2 stance 21) as I just find it easyer and it does more damage than doing all that ws3, f4 crap. Yeah I can use ff 43 and I am, but 1+2 stance 3 has push back and is not punishable on block and its easy to transition into Leo's down 1+2 stance from a lot of her strings as well as just being an easy stance in general

@DeathsIntent964 жыл бұрын
You can buffer the entirety of Bryan's Jet Upper input because it's a move from standing, not a move from stance. Any move that comes out of a stance cannot be buffered. So with Bryan again, any qcf or qcb move has to be input, in its entirety, after you've recovered from whatever animation you're in. The exception to this is f,f moves, in which you can buffer the first forward.

@HystericalHuntress4 жыл бұрын
It isn't a buffered deathfist, because that isn't how Tekken works. It's a properly TIMED deathfist, with the input for the forward sway / roll dash coming essentially on the first frame after the recovery of the QCF+1 ends. The most consistent way to get this off is to time the QCF input immediately after the recovery of the QCF+1 launcher, then try to hit the 2 for the deathfist on the first or second possible frame after the forward sway / roll dash begins. It's extremely strict, near frame-perfect timing. There is no buffering involved. As for the first combo, the dude was again, timing the deathfist improperly. If you think this shit is hard, try Paul's QCF+1 loops. I think you can get it off 3, maybe 4 times total but you have to be frame perfect every single time.

Genuinely i am in the move list city and i cant do King's down forward 3,4 and then down forward 1,2,, the down forward 3 gives me a forward 3. I can't land the down forward 3,4

Main Steve here, you're kinda wrong about "no cancels", ahahahah. Pretty sure you just had a lapse of memory. As a secondary char Paul you're absolutely right about it being buffered, you can do the full sway while recovering from previous move, also, tapping forward before you buffer it helps you get to "neutral" fast, and finally, you actually have a billion years to hit confirm it (any key after the sway, 1, 2, 3, 1+2) making it super easy to hit, so the combo is not even hard, you can do a full sway and press 2 to hit the combo.

anyone notice he does a half circle forward everytime he does a deathfist instead of just doing quarter circle forward?

There's no jab deathfist but there is an elbow-deathfist.

You honestly probably just helped thousands of people to understand move lists... Had no idea about that. Figured game devs would catch something like that and never thought something as simple as telling the players that QCF is a stance and you must wait to press the action button at the end instead of spamming like a fireball.

Death Fist is now called Phoenix Smasher? And it seems to me you cant do any buffering for commands in T7. If I input my first forward for a dash mid combo during move recovery the dash doesn't come out. I have to do both f,f after move has recovered.

The reason for dropping combos in this context has to do with how buffering works in Tekken. You cannot just buffer a million moves in advance to make them come out. There is a limited window where buffering is allowed, and, correct me if I'm wrong, you can only buffer 1 button (direction or attack) in advance, e.g. during recovery frames. You have to actually time the button presses correctly. So for a move like Paul's deathfist you must wait until you recover from the previous move before you start the qcf, because at most you will be able to buffer the down direction at the beginning of qcf. You can start doing the qcf motion 1 frame before you recover from the move that came before (because it takes at least 1 frame to do any input). Buffering more buttons will just cause the previous button presses to be overwritten, and you'll end up buffering whatever was the last button you pressed. Bottom line: you have to time button presses properly, and not just mash the commands out as fast as possible. I hope that was clear enough.

Hmm is there ever a point to doing fancy combos on Paul when launcher+deathfist seems to do as much damage on its own?
@PorkBelly-7 жыл бұрын
My guess is for wall carry or floor break but other than that launcher deathfist is good

Why does the damage sometimes increases? Just frame or distance or something else?
@ZantetsukenGilgamesh5 жыл бұрын
Distance determines whether Death Fist is a 'Clean Hit' or not, which does more damage. Point blank guarantees a clean hit.

Not even a joke, go into training mode every day for 10-20 minutes and just practice doing crouch dash over and over. No buttons, no combos, not wavedashing. Just practice doing crouch dash until it's 100% muscle memory, something you don't have to think about when you want to do it. Once you can do that any of the crouch dash moves including EWGF as easy muscle memory instead of having to think about doing it.

I can't do ewgf :( I probably did it 30 times but failed like 100. Any tipps for pad ? I really want to play Jin but i think it's worthless when i cant do the move.
@pwnagewithaknife37 жыл бұрын
Alim Kanca it's really just a matter of making sure you press 2 as at the same time as you hit the d/f. Turn on your command history and it'll show which button you're pushing at the same time as your movement by stacking the notations on top of each other. It is not worthless to play Jin if you can't electric. Electrics aren't like dragon punch they aren't pivotal to playing the character effectively. learn to play with Jin's other moves and correctly whiff punishing first. Good luck!
@NytoDork7 жыл бұрын
I'm currently learning it as well (With Kazuya) and what I think help is being prepared to press 2 at the exact moment when you do the d, d/f motion so that you press it at the exact moment and keep at it. You should be as frame perfect as possible. Also turn on the Command History to see if you input it wrong (for example pressing 2 too late or getting a f in it on accident).

Yes this is all well and good but what good does it do against Hwoarang?
@smartie3547 жыл бұрын
M'Lad Games Well, if you're referring to the effectiveness of Paul's df vs Hwo, overall in a match, it's like anyone else playing against Paul. If u whiff something & u get hit with a raw df in a flash, whatever character at that time is gonna eat serious damage. Especially, if it knocks one into the wall. It carries the same threat (even with it's drawbacks) it always has, tho it's been nerfed in power in Tek7. Regardless, it's still crazy strong. It's an opening blaster/whiff punisher & a power booster in juggles. Tbh tho, even after yrs of maining Paul, I don't prioritize the df as my personal #1 move, anymore. Imho, newer moves, like his qcb+4, qcb+1+2, or d/b+2 for starters, seem to have more strengths than the df. Players are smarter nowadays & df has to be worked in, not just thrown out recklessly.

I guess you can test it by turning recovery animation and command history on, recording a video and going frame by frame, but I get the feeling that only the down input of the qcf can be buffered. The down-forward is usually when the dash itself comes out, so if that's masked then it won't work.

it is just a nickname given to paul's qcf 2 because of the amount of damage it does. causes a lot of death XD its also easier to remember than "phoenix smasher" when casting tournaments.
