AVON FM53 REVIEW - Goliath among gas masks?

Hi, a nice review and description, I also own such a mask and want to add some comments. There are more useful accessoires like a protective hood raising the protection against CBRN - agents and probably easening the doffing without contamination of the wearer. I also highly reccomend the Camelbak Type A - connector for using a hydration bag - in combination with a Camelbak hydration bag that meets CBRN - specifications. To act in a CBRN PPE often is much more demanding than in normal combat dress and can elevate the need for drinking water in an extreme way. If on is "trapped" in an contaminated area the need to drink water is essential to prevent dehydration related problems. The thermoregulation while wearing CBRN PPE is highly limited as sweating does not regulate the body temperature from evaporation. Also interesting are carriers / bags for really fast access and protected storage of the equipment. Thanks for Your video(s)

Thanks for your input! So far I own only certain accessories and it's possible I will own a hood in the future. When it comes to hydration systems and CBRN camelback, we plan to make a big comparison of drinking systems with emphasis on using camelback for the reasons you mentioned in your comment.

How did you get one of those? I saw that in order to get the mask from the official store you had to be a cop or have some sort of military background?

You can get the FM50/C50 and FM54 respirators in the US without any issue from Avon's e-shop. No clue when it comes to FM53 however. Didn't I mention I got if from one of our supporters in the video?

In the Navy, who here was in the Navy long ago? Remember those green canister type of oxygen generating containers we wore during drills. It's like a chemical reaction created oxygen. That's what I want, not sure if they even still make those. I've been out the Navy for a while, do they still use those or did they upgrade? Never mind, don't answer that, probably top secret...lol

The real issue is they are almost $2,000 USD. They are just cast plastics. You could buy and make everything you need to make 20 of these for that price. I've noticed a lot of top end gas masks are hugely marked up because they sell to governments.

I have no illusions on how taxpayer's money is being spent, this example can be used on basically anything when it comes to government contracts. Outside the realm of overpriced contracts, the upgraded FM54 version is available for civilians for current $878.40 USD. Still a lot, but far less than 2000 USD.

It's a 3-speed C420 PAPR from SafetyTech but I have no idea what to tell you about the hose as it already came with the device, mounted and all.
