Avon resident here, I’m currently in middle school, picked trombone and became the best trombone player in my school, earned the band directors award in 6th grade (840 6th graders in my school), made all region band 1st trombone, trying for all state. I’m just baffled my town is one of the giants of the marching world, joining the marching band in a couple years. Also my band teacher has a wall of all state gold awards from 2006. Go orioles!

look at how sick hard that drill was? The music sounds like Hebron 2021! Did they get a new director? Why don't they sound like this anymore?

Matt Harloff is now the main director. Jay Webb retired after 2021. Marching band as an activity has changed a lot since I marched (2012-2015). Definitely more of a visual style now than it was 10-15 years ago

Today, November 10th, 2018, we played old hundredth (the chorale in the beginning) for the freshmen in this video. They’re veterans now. Any Avon kid will know what I’m talking about. I couldn’t be prouder of them. March on.

I'm in the color guard at HamiltonSoutheastern High School and when we went to compete at Ben Davis this year, some people came up to me and a few other guard members and they were like " Hey you're Avon right?" XD we just looked at them like how could you think we're Avon???? Avon is way better than us

The sad thing is that a small band like mine would never be given this opportunity because it isn't funded like all these huge bands that go to nationals.
@adamhills39257 жыл бұрын
My band is smallish and we are funded all through parents and fees but we are still able to travel to Nats
@tbonetime35686 жыл бұрын
Tristen Naquin they're able to go because their school gives the funding to go and the skill brings them to finals
@troyharkcom64415 жыл бұрын
School funding is actually rarely the case for things like BOA. State marching contest is normally the only thing the school board will fund but the rest is done by fees from the students. These groups have fees up to $1000 to afford the trips done and props made
@VenomEmperor4 жыл бұрын
@@troyharkcom6441 No wonder my school's marching band is nowhere as good. I don't remember the fees being that high. I wish our music and arrangement was at least as decent as this.

Big marching bands like avon only have the capability of a good and clean sound....drill....meh. Also it's not a surprise that avon has a lot of props...at least they got a school that actually cares about the band and fine arts program.
@w0lfman3947 жыл бұрын
Avon receives zero funding from the school. There is actually a referendum in place at the moment that will cut the arts if it passes

Backing tracks and synthesizers. That's some weak shit right there. DCI started a bad, bad trend.
@zanemeek90428 жыл бұрын
DCI is inherently conservative - it's too risky to try things like that until they've been proven at another level so I doubt DCI started the trend. Plus, it's not as though the kids don't have to play or march. It's an "in-addition-to" thing, not an "in-place-of"
@WapoStudios8 жыл бұрын
Not really sure what these "backing tracks" are unless you're talking about the atmospheric synth parts. The winds playing in the beginning are in one of the oil rigs, so that's not backtracked at all. I'm 100% sure everything here is being performed having seen this show multiple times.

If this was judged based on difficulty it would be last
@KarlaLopez-sp8dc8 жыл бұрын
Why would the performance be based on difficulty its mostly all about how well the music is played not how well or very big and extravagant the performance is
@jakey4778 жыл бұрын
Joseph Stalin quite falso
@KlldbyCuriosity7 жыл бұрын
Joseph Stalin For a high school marching around 180 at some points not really. They keep the forms remarkably clean for a high school while maintaining a good sound and staying in time. Granted they do jazz running occasionally (as in without playing and just going to the sets) but they don't do that half as much as a lot of bands these days, especially when you look at the Woodlands.

You don’t get judged on how hard the show is, you get judged on how well you do it.
