The automatic Missions only attract pirates when your ships are not sufficiently Armed to fit the requirements of the area. Slap a few turrets on your miner and Explorer and that Problem will vanish

1. do Tutorial quests til you geht the second ship and sell asteroids while doing so 2. get explorer Captain with that cash edit: and a trader captain as well 3. explore faction area completely edit: and send trader captain on automatic missions til you have roughly 5 Million. 4. Look for a System with 3 or More factories of same type thus with high supply and low prices for that trade good 5. look for a System with lots of comsumers of your previously scouted good. 6. Check how much they need, buy it at the factories, sell for profit Just tested this method today (5 months after posting the original post) and worked like a charm. lucked out and got a sector with 5-6 Drill factories. sell those in a sector with lots of mines for +30-40% margin and you are rich. bought for 11 Mil sold for 22 Mil.

Asteroid selling prices are based on distance from centre (closer is more valuable) and there's a trade-off with rep gain. E.g. if you sell to a faction you have very low rep with you won't get nearly as much money, but you can gain a huge chunk of rep all at once. With higher rep you get much less rep gain, but proportionately much more of the base $ of the asteroid. -------- Scout is good for revealing large sections of the map at once, also the messages the captain leaves are searchable, so if you know what you're looking for (e.g. wormholes, recoverable wrecks) it can help pinpoint certain things. The vanilla one is kind of frustrating because it lumps a bunch of different things together. Modded the messages can be very useful. NB: different captains leave different messages. Only the Explorer captain leaves the entire range of messages. Ergo you should never do a scout mission except with an Explorer captain. The thing with 'scout' is that semantically it implies some kind of lightly armoured sneaky person trying to fly under the radar. However, like _all_ the map 'missions', the ambush chances are based purely off the game's estimate of how long you would last in combat against a typical foe from that particular region of space. And since you would typically want to scout _ahead_ of the rest of your forces, that means you shouldn't be scouting in anything other than a mainline battleship. The one thing scouting _can't ever_ do is tell you whether the sector has a claimable asteroid or stashes, as those are only generated randomly when the sector loads for the first time (scouting works off the class name or 'type' of the sector - and each has different contents. E.g. a sector with pirates fighting each other has a particular class name, and each sector that has pirates fighting each other has that same class name. Another class name is 'lone wormhole' ... which _isn't_ guaranteed to have a wormhole, but rather has a chance of having a wormhole. So when the sector is first loaded the game rolls dice to see _if_ it _might_ have a wormhole, and if it does it tries to generate either a short 'local' wormhole or one of the longer 'radial' wormholes, and if the other end point of the wormhole is in a rift then it fails to generate) - but I digress. Scout is good for preparing the ground for mining or trading map missions. Trying to mine in unexplored space imposes a _heavy_ penalty on resources gained. --------- For mining missions, the game _loves_ R-miners, and for a comparable number of lasers found in the same regions of space the R-miner will pump out roughly twice as much ores from a mining mission. Also, you don't need to worry about refining it because that's built in to the simulation. However you _do_ need to worry about cargo space, as an 'R-miner' ship on a mission with a low cargo space would spend most of its time queued up to 'refine'. Also, if your mining ships are on the weaker end of the scale you can benefit (reduce ambush chances) by sending them all out together in one stack so that they 'escort' each other. (Blah blah, mine with mining captains, blah blah also still use mining subsystems as there is a small benefit, hunt around for best area, rhubarb rhubarb). Early game it can be frustrating to leave an 'npc'/minion miner delving away in a system chock full of titanium and it still prefers the iron. So a _small_ advantage of mining map missions is you can essentially tell the miner to ignore certain materials. Hassle free micro-management! Yay (or something) One of the problems with early game mining missions is that the first time you try them they're only about 60% as effective as just letting the miner do the autopilot thing. (Actually considerably less now that the malus for mining unexplored/not-fully-explored regions has been introduced). So you might try one, think 'holy detritus batman, this is garbage!!!' and then never look at them again. However by about the time you get to the naonite region they should be roughly on par with early autopilot mining (roughly 30k resources per hour), and if you can get all the stars and planets to align (e.g. R-mining in a ship with decent cargo space plus everything else from above) then they _may_ actually start out-performing the auto-miners. Something I've recently been experimenting with is modding it so that the captains return resources every 5 minutes instead of half an hour (so no net gain, just smoothing it out so there's less lumpiness in the delivery), (or every one minute for the shortest mission times (was 15 minutes unmodded)) which I think makes for a more pleasurable experience, and one closer to par with the old r-mining-loop. Solves that pain of sitting there waiting for 'just 26 more titanium and I can do the thing I want to do'.

To get early money: I grind cargo delivery missions while watching youtube. You can buy a cheap jump range chip then use auto pilot from the strategy menu to dock to stations.

I started with missions that gave good cash and faction rep. Can grind rep to get a faction map about as fast as an explorer captain can map a faction. Pirates pay attention to hit-points and omicron, so switch to salvaging missions. Did salvaging missions end-game anyway as they have similar resource yield, but also give 50-200 systems. 2nd source of income was my mining fleet while my third and final source of income was trading. Look for systems with 5-6 of the same type of factory. 99% chance they have great prices. I'd do semi-manual trading. i.e. buy the goods myself, then use travel and sell orders to complete the route. Make sure you idle a ship in the factory system, makes the factories produce a lot faster. My last play through was slow going until I found the first system with 6 body armor factories. After that I was set for money for the rest of the game.

I made a factions private server a unique take on how yo play the game. With a focus on territory control and player interaction including rules of engagement to prevent griefing. U seem to be a little burnt out on this game in recent videos. I made a server to try something new.

Selling fusion generators or antigrav units to certain mines has made me hella lot of money doesent all ways feel like much but when you get above 1k cargo capcity you will earn a few million on each trip thoug it does require all ready having somemoney though trhough repeated trips the money will slowly start to flow. Another way of gaining money is finding a noble metal mines who produce gold and have trade post in the system wich accepts the gold they often have decent profit margin

I can confirm this for the fusion generators. In my Game i have roughly 40% margin being 3-5 Million profit.

Early game I still go Asteroid Hunting.. It's still a good source of cash Starting Out, even if it's not as good for money Late Game. The cash I get from those get my first few ships Outfitted & Captained. Early Game Operations can be pretty hard when you first start, depending on difficulty you really need to Build up a Decent Ship, or add an Escort or two otherwise they just get jumped... But Early Game is Still Basically like the 1.0 Play Style.. So don't think your just Stuck in Old Habits, they are still effective even Late Game. I still use Manual Scouting, & Single Sector Mining/Salvaging until I've built my ships up to the point that they can handle a Pirate or two on their own (even if it's a Mining Ship) before I send them on Ops.. Even then they might still need an Escort sometimes, I usually won't go on an Operation (with a Solo Civilian Ship) if the Ambush Chance is higher then 15%. But Ops are Defiantly the Way to Go once your Fleet is Strong Enough for them. Early Game Trading is still kinda a Pain since it Requires enough Exploration & a bit of Luck. Since 2.0 came out I always try to Build up for Operations (so I don't have to manually search for good Trade Routes), but since you need that Map Data first I usually just stick to Mission Boards and use a ship as a Delivery Truck until I can build it up into a real Merchant Ship. The cash is a little low when you first start, but you will eventually start seeing some missions that pay just as well as selling Asteroids in the area and better. And this method, I've always Hated, but has Always been Effective.. Selling Materials.. Even tho I'm not much of a Builder, and I Almost Always have way more Mats then I need I Rarely ever sell them unless I'm Just Short of the money for a Module or Turret.

the new no rush system is a bit annoying but i basically followed the 'story line' aka just did al tasks to unlock as much as possible. made a ton of ships. had half of them explore and had half of them with guns to aid with faction rep while they killed aliens and pirates in w/e they patrolled. once i got the the center i alliance with 3-4 factions encircling the center. I have 5 ships for salvaging, 5 for trading, 5 for mining, 5 for exploring and 10 for fighting. i have all them auto trade/mine etc because with that many ships its hard to do things the manual way which does yield more.. but if youre 1 person and dont want to micro it works well pretty much do the thing you like to do with your main ship and have all the rest do the slightly less efficient stuff. i still make around 20mil an hour. which isnt much but thats with me just giving orders and doing nothing myself. I also only have entry level factories as where are all the asteroids? I will start ramping up factories once I find a system with enough asteroids and a setup that can yield some coin. but just doing things passively with all my ships, i am sitting at 1bil. i think that playthrough is 60 hours?

Not sure if you knew this… dont want to sound like a jerk so if you did I am sorry but you can actually claim an Asteroid, then change it into a ship via Building menu then change the station from stationary mode to transport Mode and the dock your Main ship with the asteroid which looks like a small ship and Jump into the sector where you need it. Then you change the ship back into the asteroid and After that turn the stationary mode back on. Et voila… you have moved an asteroid from where you found it to where you need it.

I sold asteroids till I could afford to buy a merchant captain and build a freighter. I've been making pretty good money since then, up to 36million and only at Naonite.

what I do for cash is auto mining asap, than save up for an asteroid (more Is better), finally a research station.

it seems that there is less salable asteroid in that dark home area but more in the outer area of a fraction. build a trading ship in the beginning with a merchant captain to earn money, and use the trade command in the fraction home area, there you are safer from pirates. or there must be very good sectors with several factories that make the same thing, then you can use the procure and sell system, but that's usually more for later in the game, once you've found good sectors for this for the recon mission you need an explorer captain, this place text on the map of what he found. in the command menu mining there is a button for safe mining, then the chance that you will be attacked goes down. the home area of a fraction is also safer
