Love the fact that you and some other KZbinrs are revisiting older, smaller, and lower resolution cameras. I'm trying to break my GAS camera issue but have said for many years that most cameras from 2010 (and some earlier) take fantastic pictures. I recently drove down to see a total eclipse of the sun in southern Illinois and sadly just brought my cell phone. How I wished that I had any camera that had manual focus! (my bad). BTW, you have a great "camera cave."

I agree that the GX80 (GX85 in the U.S.) is a great camera. I use mine with the Pan/Leica 15mm f1.7 lens and get some wonderful photos. It's the camera I take with me everywhere. Btw, it has way more features than you described. Also, unlike the sensor in the GM1, the GX80's Optical Low Pass Filter is removed for better resolution.

Great review. I have the RX100M6 and a6000. Agree with everything you said except having had both, would much rather have the flip out screen. You can't put the camera low and take a portrait shot with a screen that only flips up and down. Plus the flip out protects itself by being folded in. And you can sneak a candid shot easier sideways when being watched.

Love the GX85. Great body for street. Upgraded to the GX9. Incremental improvements over the GX85 but not a necessary upgrade. My favorite part of the GX9 is the L Monochrom D. My favorite B&W jpeg setting. Last month purchased the GX8. A very good all around body. Heavier than the 85/9. Has IBIS and weather sealed. Also has a 2.5cm audio jac. All three GX bodies are super. G9 is larger than the GX bodies. Was the Panasonic photography flagship body but has a lot of video features. DFD contrast detection is good for photography. Less so for video. It is lightweight because it has a composite body. A good compromise. I also own the Olympus EMD1 Mii. It has PDAF. Super IBIS. Weather sealed. Has the flip screen I am not found of as does the G9. It is also the heaviest body I mentioned but not a particularly heavy body. It was the Olympus flagship body at the time and very solid construction. Both the G9 and EMD1Mii have dual card slots. I use M4/3 a lot - including some old Olympus Pen cameras like the E-PL 1, but the E-M5 iii has become my favorite for things, where people depend on my photos. I own the Sony RX100 iii, but I'm not loving it. I do like Sony gear a lot being a bit of a Minolta fan. My favorite mirrorless Sony cameras include the NEX 5n and A5100 - both very compact cameras with an APS-C sized sensor and a nice lens selection - and second hand hand of course, so they didn't set me back much.

Funny how times have changed. Back in the day I was more likely to get into restricted places if I were carrying Pro Gear rather than a small compact. In those days if you looked a Professional Photographer you were, I was always allowed inside the barriers because I carried two SLR's around my neck and a branded Photo Bag. Wouldn't work now, the heavies just push you away.

Lovely video. All the cameras I have, Sony, Nikon, Canon, APS-C. M4/3 and full frame, my favourite 'go to' walkabout camera is the Olympus XZ-1. Slow - yes- touch screen - no. But the pictures, for it's size outweighs the negatives. A little gem.

Thanks Bob…some great choices! I have the Rx100vii and often my camera of choice (btw the V would be a nice choice too- a bit faster lens, but not quite as long). Very tempted by the g80/85 though.

My fave street shooter was a Leica D Lux 3 - but I stepped n it. My beloved Sony a6000 was pulled off a table at Xmas. The body was bunged up. When I first bought it - I bought a 16mm as my standard street lens. I own a G100 but hardly use it. My LX-10 can be used as a B camera with if shooting video.

Great video Bob, Lumix GX85 is my most used camera with the excellent Pana/Leica 15mm f1.7. I also have a Lumix TZ100 and i'd definitely recommend that as a lower cost alternative to the Sony RX100. The Sony is better but not my enough to justify the huge price difference in my opinion. Most cameras are capable of great images these days for me it's a camera that's small enough I want to take it with me and gives me enjoyment while taking images. A camera with great IQ that spends most of its time on the shelf because it's too big and bulky is of no use to me 🙂

Wonderful video of cute cameras. That issue of looking like pro photographer with BIG cameras is always on my mind. I carry one of the a6000 series cameras with a small lens. Does the job, still can use other lenses for my hobby work. I have to look at what is available for a pancake lens for my a6600. I do like the Sigma 18-50 zoom, a great lens for other camera manufacturers. The other is the old kit zoom lens that can be had for about $150 used. Though people use their cellphone for pictures, no one really cares, but pull out a big camera and you attract a lot of attention. Maybe one day I should drag out my huge Nikon F2, buy a couple rolls of film and go to an amusement park and see what happens.

Ten or so years ago bought an EOS M with kitzoom (€300) when it was phased out and later added the 22mm F2.0. Still got that camera and lenses and with two new batteries you get >500 pics out of it. With propper exposure ISO3200 is still ok 6400 a last resort.

Yes, I own one as well , it's a great little camera and honestly I can't tell the difference between the shots it takes and my other m43 cameras like the EM5, EM10 etc. am seriously considering it as my only camera for travel as I like to travel light and it is a do all setup. I have a Fuji XA7 with lots of lenses but even narrowing it down to 2 lenses, it is too bulky and heavy compared to the stylus 1 .....

Trust me guys, they can be found at a good price on the marketplace and get the Sony RX 100 from version 5 and up with your eyes closed. I have version 6 and it's amazing!!! The one for street photography is smaller than the Ricoh so in people's eyes you look like a classic tourist with a $2 camera!! So people don't care about your presence, letting you approach and take photos undisturbed!! While they don't know that you have a little gem in your hands that produces images of impressive quality!!

I've been searching for a great pocket camera and so far the RX100 is my choice. Panasonic G100 would be except for the fact it does not clean the sensor. It seems to me if you don't have IBIS, the camera doesn't clean the sensor (not like the very old Canons that had cleaning before IBIS was around). The G100 loved to collect dust on the sensor even though I was very careful when changing lenses. I also had the Pana LX100ii, great camera but the zoom sucked in dust and with the fixed lens had to go back to Panasonic to get the sensor cleaned!

I have the gx80/85 and it works very well. Recently, I have been using the TTArtisan 7.5mm lens with this camera. The camera would detect and ask if this lens is 15mm (because it is m43 camera body).
