It is so weird. I remember being a teenager when Avril became famous. She was EVERYWHERE. Kids in school would talk about her, girls started to dress like her, I would play her CD in my disc man repeatedly. Now to sit here 20 freaking years later is mind blowing. It does not feel like 20 years I can remember it like it was yesterday. Being at the bus stop listening to this song every morning

This is a rare example of a singer who has actually worked on her craft as she's got older. She has definitely trained her instrument. Her voice is so much stronger and more developed then when she first recorded it. Her range is bigger too. It has actually given me a huge amount of respect for Avril.

Her voice has aged really nicely. Everybody's voice changes as they age, but a lot of people who aren't lifelong musicians (and even some who are) get worse or lose the range and nuance they had when they were in their 20s. She seems to have gotten richer and more nuanced, she's got great texture and character to her delivery here that the original recording doesn't have.
The amount of breath control and skill it takes to maintain the same sound and clarity as 20 years ago is absolutely incredible!! Avril is the queen!

@IndependentMind115 Жыл бұрын
@@WIACZO Yeah, but the number of singers I've heard that sing their songs for years often miss their mark. Mariah Carey, Demi Lovato, and even Gerard Wey are all examples of this. Even Idina Menzel has had voice issues. For Avril to still sound this good is to be head and shoulders above everyone else in my opinion. Shows she's using proper techniques all the time.

She deserves all of the appreciation. She was the idol of Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and a lot of really famous singers. She inspired all of them and they publicly admit it. She's a pure talent and a piece of art.
Today I found out Avril Lavigne inspired the Japanese singer Aimer to learn the guitar and now I find them both on First Take. It's amazing how much influence Avril has had.

Her ability to save a wonderful performance at 3:55 is so good. She lost her breath and recovered with a "yeah, yeah!" Interjection. Definitely unplanned and wonderful.
@davedarling65126 ай бұрын
I don't think she lost her breath, I think she has to do that in order to belt out the "yeah, yeah". If you listen to the studio version the yeah yeahs happen while she is still singing the word "complicated" - she sang the two parts separately in studio. Here is another live version where she doesn't sing the word "complicated" at all, her backup singers do it so she can do the yeah-yeahs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmXNcoyNoK6UiaM When it's just her singing she has to modify the performance. Now I've put entirely much time into this response :)
@tabbyrgb3 ай бұрын
Nah bro listen to the OG recording. The "yeah, yeah" overlaps and she wanted to sing those words in this take so she had to stop saying "complicated" in order to give way to "yeah, yeah~".

Thanks to Avril. You totally changed my life when I was a junior high school student in a rustic place in Japan .
