The Avro Lancaster is the most famous and successful RAF heavy bomber of World War Two.
Avro Lancaster NX611 'Just Jane' from Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby is one of only three working Avro Lancaster worldwide.
NX611 is currently in taxying condition but is being restored to airworthy condition.
The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is currently working through a programme of restoration with Avro Lancaster NX611 with the aim of taking her to an airworthy condition in hopefully 2026-2027.The aircraft is being worked through part by part on a long term restoration project with progress being made throughout the years while NX611 continues to taxy from March to November. The whole project is estimated to cost £4million all of which is being raised through museum admission fees, donations and Lancaster taxy rides.

The thrum of all four when they are tuned together is something else on a low level fly by. My father worked at one of the RR factories, machining engine components; mostly he talked about Merlins. Even so, decades later he mentioned he imagined what it must have been like on the receiving end, sitting in your home in the dark in Germany as the sound of a 1000 bomber raid of these approaching gets louder and louder. He though It must have been awful. He wasn't cheering about it which I respected very much.

@@keithallver2450 Actually the B17 lifted as much as a Lancaster it was what was lifted, USAAF went for extra defense in extra guns and crew and ammo, lancaster went for a larger bomb load. RAF Figures for the average load of ALL missions of the Lancaster was right at 6,000# to have any range, guess what the bomb load of a B17 was for long flights??? 4 to 6,000#'s. B17 with their 2 stage turbocharged Wright R1820's went to 30,000 FT the Lancaster struggled to get above 20,000 ft with their single stage Merlins Both planes weighed about exactly the same empty and loaded, what was carried was the difference. And the lancaster was a death trap very difficult to bail out of, small hatches, very poor survival rate from a Lancaster and 1/2 were lost in combat !!

Launches is not at all an appropriate word. The engines remained attached to the wings and were not launched at anything. The engines also didn't land anywhere after being launched. Launching is a very good description of a thing that did not happen. No voluminous woman in a silly hat broke a bottle of champagne over them in front of various dignitaries also in silly hats. Bands did not play. Divers did not have to recover the engines from the bottom of the dock afterwards. No admirals were harmed in the making of this video. What happened instead is that the engines were started.
