100%. Establishing trust and bona fides goes a long way. It also makes for a better overall experience when you encounter an exceptional mind as we did in Pennsylvania. The genuine warmth showered on us by our host was better than any gift we could receive, and then we get gifted tiny nuclear reactors to light cigars with (when it's not a windy 31 degrees and the guardian angels know you're standing next to an open gas tank and a fuel pump, lol!) that were made in 1928. And I mentioned on the Community page some other cool details like the steak at 4am. So yeah, that trust goes a long way.

Motorcycles seem like...trinkets...toys in terms of bang for buck compared to cars. I'm sure this was how it always were comparatively but you can get something extremely respectable for like 1/10th of the price an equivalent impactful car is worth. I'm no rider, I can hardly ride a bicycle but I'm definitely into the idea of bikes just because of the accessibility. You can't look at a 748/916 or a 996 and not think it's almost as beautiful as a Ferrari. And Ducks have this deep sound to em. I really like 4 cylinder bikes, GSXRs and whatnot but that's such a different sort of sound for that type of bike. Just fascinating to me.

Casey, I hope you’ll not take this the wrong way…. You jammy bu99er !! Yes, I’m also a Ducatisti. Made a living exclusively from building single and bevel twin engines back when they were young. Owned and did a lot of miles on a 750sport and later a 750ss of my own. Raced various Pantahs and still have two and a half of them. I’m sure that you already know this, but the bevel motors live and die on their oil, have only just enough oil pump and marginal filtration along with very low oil pressure due to the roller big ends. The upshot is that the top ends run pretty dry initially on startup and don’t get too much lube at a low idle when they’re fully hot. Golden rules: 1, Firing up from cold - Get it immediately up to 1500rpm, not much more, hold it there for about 5-10 seconds before you let it idle. That’ll get the oil up past the restrictor jets in the top end feed galleries asap and really helps keep cam and cam follower wear down. Having a really low warm idle sounds as horny as a very horny thing…..Don’t do it !! It’ll cost you an early rebuild because of sod-all oil pressure and flow. I used to get a lot of business re-stelliteing rocker faces for people ‘cause new replacements were eye-wateringly expensive. Grinding the radiuses accurately enough to work well was tricky, very tricky, so if you ever need it done in the future choose carefully who does it. I also had to do a lot of crank jobs…all due to early bearing failure, mostly on engines that had super-low idle speed set because it sounded great. 2, Oil choice is critical. If you use most fully synthetic types of oil their high lubricity will make the clutch let go in short order, which is a pita. I don’t know what your climate is like, but go with the OE Ducati recommended type and grade for your temperature range. Stick to it like a religion. I’m not saying stick with AGIP brand, no idea if they still make the stuff anyway, but definitely use a really good quality low foaming mineral or semi-synthetic designed for bike engines, because lots of gearsets to lube too. Shorten the recommended change interval to max 1000miles. These engines push their oil REALLY hard because……lots of gearsets…..and big, aircooled, bores with big but fairly short semi-slipper pistons wobbling up and down. Did I mention marginal filtration? 3, Clutch……… Can be temperamental, even with the right oil. It’s very worthwhile checking the pressure plate runout regularly, which is adjustable via the springs, before you have a dragging and slipping problem because it’ll help avoid it and will allow the clutch to release fully-ish …which is also a bit marginal because they don’t have quite enough throw unless the springs are adjusted perfectly. What a happy merry-go-round Ing.Taglioni gifted to the world with the 900 clutch. It has kept many a man from straying by occupying him fully in the honest pursuit of a happy compromise. 😂 They’re always a pain to find neutral at a standstill anyway so don’t bother, save on clutch pushrod wear and drop it into neutral while you’re still just rolling when you’re coming to a standstill. Adjust the clutch pushrod so that the actuating lever is just vertical when fully in. Then adjust the cable, making absolutely sure that you’ve got minimum 3/16” real freeplay, preferably 1/4, measured between the control lever and handlebar lever mount faces at their outer edges. It’s fair to say that the lever action is not exactly featherweight, it’s a ‘man’s clutch’.😁……….But if you’re going to thrash it, consider replacing half of the clutch springs with 450desmo jobbies, which are a wee bit stronger. Whatever you do, don’t do this if you’ve ever had tendonitis. Here endeth the lesson. 😂 I could go on for hours, there’s loads of wee dodges to make these a real pleasure to own and ride…..There’s nothing else like them, they’ve got soul in bucketloads and the truth is I’m bloody jealous. If there’s anything you need to know give me a shout in the comments, anytime. Cheers ol’buck, R. 😎👍🍻
