The animation, the sound design, and the wendigo were well done. But the storyline could have been better. I'm all for dark storytelling but the setup with Timmy and his friend was too wholesome and the vengeful spirit killing them for only protecting themselves felt unjustified so the ending felt unfinished. One of the kids should have survived and somehow defeated the creature. It would still have been dark but with a more satisfying conclusion.

I’m confused. Can anyone let me know if I have the story right? 1. The girl and boy are playing. 2. The girl is magically picked up and taken to a mirror inside a shack, the boy follows. 3. In the mirror the boy sees a vision (memory?) of him and the girl witnessing a drowning. The killer then chases them to the same shack they’re currently in, while one picks up a hammer about to strike. 4. A creature then comes out of the mirror and kills the girl, then chases the boy. 5. The creature then drowns the boy. I’m assuming this was supposed to be a metaphor for the killer killing the children? But did the killer come back as a monster, or was the memory what actually happened and the monster was a metaphor?

I understand the confusion. I made the film for me and that was somewhat unfair for the viewer. The man/creature is a metaphor for the depression my wife deals with and tries to end her and drag me down with her in the process. Depression is not always visible and comes back even when you think you have beaten it. Apply this to the film and you see somewhat the correlation. But I also did a more standard story line in it. They see something they weren’t supposed to, get hunted by it snd beat it. Man kinda dies in front of the mirror but gets absorbed into the mirror workd where he has to take a life to eventually get back as the monster he really is.

While the boy stands in a similar place to the memory, acreature then comes out of the mirror and kills the girl, then chases the boy. 5. The creature then drowns the boy. I’m assuming this was supposed to be a metaphor for the killer killing the children? That the boy picked up the hammer but ran instead? But why did the boy see the killer as the wendigo? Why did the girl magically get taken to the shack if that didn’t happen?
