Mawi Garage is one of the buildings in The Mawi complex which is located in Gang Mawi in Bintaro. This project is one of the architectural projects exhibited at the annual Bintaro Design District 2023 event
Bintaro Design District itself is an annual event initiated by several well-known local Indonesian architects to develop and promote the Bintaro area as a design center, a place where business and creative and design industries gather. This initiative aims to create an environment that supports collaboration, innovation and economic growth in the design sector.
Open Architecture is part of the Bintaro Design District event which specifically showcases architectural works that are unique in Bintaro. So, during the exhibition period, this private building is opened to the public so that it can be appreciated by the general public. This year Mawi Garage won the award as the best architectural project exhibited at the event.
We can certainly understand the reason if we watch this video. Mawi Garage is a really cool garage building design. The facade, which appears fierce and masculine, apparently takes ideas from the shapes of the motorbikes and cars stored inside. Not only aesthetic, it turns out the design also accommodates a significant function, creating cross ventilation which helps maintain the building's thermal comfort.
The garage functions as a private collection space for automotive enthusiasts, housing nearly 100 motorbikes and three cars. The structure integrates existing elements with a focus on efficient use of materials, maintaining the original framework while introducing new features.
