Moral of the story -- Recognize the power that you innately have within you. The power you give birth to through your womb in each phase and cycle of the moon and sun. Surrender to this power by honoring the truth of where it comes from .. YOU . NOT from anyone who does/does not validates you. When you hear the call of your true self, which will call to you through nature, through your desires, and through your body LISTEN. Answer the call by leaving behind all your self-limiting beliefs or desires to seek your salvation in external things. THIS IS WHEN YOU TRULY BECOME TRANSFORMED, WHOLE, AND FREE. When you do this, you will illuminate the path for others to do the same as well. -- This film was a absolute masterpiece ❤

How interesting the duality, the dichotomy, that they present in this video between virtue and sin... reflected in the two portrait paintings on the wall, as with the protagonist who seems to be the typical old lady obsessed with dogmas in her behavior of the Catholic religion but does jobs sending fake used panties. I think I understand that part of the animated short is about how we all have these two aspects and that no one is able to completely get rid of one of the two. She also talks about loneliness, that part is the one that moved me the most. This is a sad story. Anyway, I don't know how much internal coherence the story has. Why are there photos and paintings of humans if the world seems to be inhabited by anthropomorphic animals? Are humans in that world fantasy or mythological creatures?
@FantasyAddict953 жыл бұрын
perhaps the animal aspects are representative of their spirit, their "living" spirit only visible in life, while the human pictures and figments are human because they are not alive, and so cannot display their spirit/animal qualities? you can think of it as everyone being human factually, but there's a lense that shows characteristics of the local townspeople.
@LelaosXVI7 ай бұрын
Those two portraits actually emphasise your point of duality of pleasure and virtue, since the right portrait is of Elisabeth Báthory, a Hungarian noblewoman, who's legend suggest was a licentious murderess, who've also been accused to bath in blood as it'd keep her young. As the other portrait is Teresa of Ávila, a nun in Spain, who was praised as a spiritual reformer of her church, approaching a more silent, meditative form of worship.

For those devout Christians out there.. Even in this secular piece there are spiritual insights which might probably be unintended. We often fall into contradictory actions while practicing our faith. Here, indeed she has acknowledged that she is a virgin because no one wanted her. She sought to religion to accept her void to accept her reality which she yearns to change. She celebrates her virginity as a façade for purity while she is also caught in an adulterous career for her livelihood. The two extremes of her psyche is portrayed by little spirits of the nun and the sexually explicit woman. Her daily life based on her career choices, puts her into further desperation of what she is missing in her life. Although seen as a devout Christian, she also practices pagan rituals.. This being is caught between two worlds and ends up with nothing but hopelessness. Be hot or cold, but never lukewarm for you'd certainly lose your soul.
@clray1234 жыл бұрын
But the solution is to escape both worlds, and be yourself, and not to enslave yourself in one of them according to other people's expectations. And that's the moral of the story.
@amandasilliker32437 ай бұрын
It’s small, and years ago, but I’m compelled to comment…I don’t get that no one wanted her throughout her history - but that she made a choice to “save herself”, leading to a life that put her on the outskirts of social construct. She never learned how to approach/cross that threshold and became desperate. I agree that Madonna/wh*re archetype is in stark relief.

my interpretation is that she finally let loose completely in order to feel alive, but she then fell to her death. the trees while "flying" looked like they changed into dirt, so perhaps she "flew" after the branches gave out, until she hit the ground and was buried. the phantoms appearing for the raven lady could be her suddenly longing to call like that, and she will go through a similar experience of conflicted emotions, though it may end differently for her.
@telemachusepiphany96683 жыл бұрын

She was an owl... I guess in the end she became an owl rather than trying to be a "person". She realized that both of her supposedly deep desires, to be pious and to be sexually appealing, were implanted by society. In the end she chose to reject such notions and do her own thing, in line with her nature, and she literally escaped. Her "demons" then left and inhabited somebody else's mind, to cause the same sort of misery.
@detrajackson59924 жыл бұрын
@@clray123 Thank you for your response! I know she is an Owl woman I was trying to be funny! LOL!! BUT, what you are saying doesn't make sense to me because the film IS all fantasy where they are different species/people. The dog/postman, the pig man at the bar...etc. An owl and a crow are natural enemies. I think that she ultimately watched her life pass her by as she maintained being a good catholic owl/woman waiting for her prince charming (whomever that may be) to come but he never did...I think she took a keep of faith and decided to spread her wings, fly and find the happiness she sought. The crow woman was just someone else entirely who occupied the empty house.

old lady is alone her whole life but consoled herself and convinced herself that she was being moral and pure, but profited from the pervertedness of others, had hallucinations of the ladies (likely sinful and saintly figures) being carefree and depraved, and secretly longed to go wild herself. her attempts before were half-hearted or misguided, and only enforced her sense of loneliness. after a fit of rage and a crisis of faith, she finally gains the courage to embrace the freedom she longed for and not restrain herself. my interpretation of the ending is that she fell instead of flew when the branches broke, but felt free and satisfied nevertheless (trees morphing into dirt could be her falling and hitting the ground, flying to the grave) and the raven lady was seen having her awakening to face a similar conflict of faith/expectations vs. reality of herself. basic message: matters of faith and flesh are very complicated and (depending on your faith/societal/personal expectations) can be in direct conflict with each other but people often act in ways that contradict them without feeling conflicted (praying for sex, profiting by selling fake used panties, fantasies that she often represses, midnight strolls with insincere calling) but overall trying to deny/suppress an aspect of yourself only leads to bitterness, shame and regret, so you need to learn to accept what you are and find fulfillment for yourself (in a way that doesn't violate other's pursuit of finding their fulfillment.)

It was mostly symbolic, her main fear was that she hadn't lived and was getting old, death would not be far off. She went into the water and this time crossed to the other side, she was trying to follow the owl song because she realised it was calling to her. Crossing over, climbing up in the trees and taking a leap of faith, following the calling, all symbolism.

@@ian-c.01 Vertical escape could also mean death. She climbs the tree and jumps to her death, no? As per the title Raymond or the Vertical Escape. She wants to be with the mailman, short of that she'd rather die. I like your interpretation, but that's how I understood it.
