this was absolutely amazing. i believe the coin is a symbol of culture so when she lost the jar of coins it represents her ‘leaving behind’ her old traditions only to then realize that the coin (culture) will always be within her.

the way i see it, she’s moving away from her home. the coins not only represented good luck for the future she wanted, but her family & the home life & routines she’s leaving behind. she brought the coins with her as a reminder, but she left them on the train. in dismay, she struggles to identify with the fast food world when she was used to home cooked meal traditions, but eventually finds safety in knowing that the coins and her heritage will never leave her. i thINK. idk.

the coins represented not only good fortune, but also traditions and family, which is why she took them with her- to remind her of home. so when she loses them on the train she panics and despairs, struggling to embrace her new life (perhaps she emigrated to america, thus the burgers and palm trees) and instead searching for reminders of home (her looking for 'coins' in other round foods). her finding a coin in her stomach is realising that home and her heritage never left her but were within herself all along
