My aunt is a teacher, she also quit. My aunt didn't give up, and your wife shouldn't either. My aunt started a business inside her home welcoming students who needed extra help in certain courses. Teachers are treated horribly to begin with and having worked for 43 and also having received "awards" for teaching, the award is more burdensome that it is worth. I deliberately did not EVEN make a Facebook page for myself until after I quit for this very reason. A teacher could post the most innocuous message or photo and if it got into a parent's hands, they could find something wrong with it. There are MANY wonderful and supportive parents out there, but all it takes is ONE "religious" fanatic to make your job miserable. Also: Cenk needs to stop maligning Neanderthals! :)

I also did this. I had no social media presence until I retired. Even during my student teaching, my mentors suggested going to the next county for an evening out just to avoid confrontations. Please, not all parents. With most of my students' parents I had wonderful social encounters during sports and cultural events as well as Parent/Teacher meetings. But there were a few scary ones. One school even switched from having P/T meetings in the individual classrooms to all teachers at desks in the gym for mutual support

they have been. I work at a security fingerprint clearance in California, and many teachers, nurses, and doctors are from Florida, Texas, and other red states. The majority of them have mentioned that politics forced them here. As a history/political major, their playbook is falling right into place. They want to kick out people, increasing their chances to hold onto their party in those states. At this point, the U.S should split; however, international politics is what will always keep us in together as our enemies will use our vulnerability and attack, unless the South will work directly with Russia, or China to help them succeed from the U.S and become their own country

I’m certain some schools pay less but the cost of living in some places is lower. And have you looked at the salaries of US teachers? Keep in mind they are under constant attack that could end their careers in the snap of a finger and this after obtaining a 4-year college degree minimally in order to secure a teaching degree. No. Do not teach in the US if you are able to make that decision. Teachers, look into international schools.

I am a retired school teacher of 37 years. I have seen this happen many times. The best teachers have always been targets for extremists. The best teachers have only one goal, to prepare their students for the future. Critical thinking skills are required for this but are also necessary for defeating bigotry and other fallacies. Lastly, teachers do not indoctrinate. The best teachers know that students learn on their own and that the teachers' job is to give their students the tools that they need to accomplish this.
